Repair Systems to unlock T2 reppers and get a decrease to the boost time (faster repper), Mechanic to also unlock T2 reppers and get some extra hull, Hull Upgrades for armor hardeners (V for T2), Armor Compensation skills to boost your EANM's, and armor rigging for rep and armor rigs.

Just to add to what grarr said, you should go for armor hardeners first. They give the most tanking benefit and don't take that long to get. That means Hull Upgrades IV. Hull Upgrades IV also lets you use Damage Control IIs. After that the next most important thing are capacitor skills. It's pretty much impossible to run an armor repper permanently without a cap booster or a bunch of cap rechargers. Energy Management and Energy Systems Operation will both give you a boost to your capacitor regen rate. Energy Grid Upgrades III will let you use cap recharger IIs, which are great for pve since you don't have to spend money on cap booster charges, but not so good for pvp since you have to use up almost all your mid slots to get your cap regen high enough to perma-run a repper or two.

active hardeners take cap to use, so the smaller the ship is, the more cap is taken from you percentage wise. passive hardeners preserve your cap while giving you a little less defense, but then you dont have to worry about energy neuts turning off your hardeners.

Edited by: Deviana Sevidon on 17/08/2008 19:27:49 Mimatar are Shield and Armor Tankers.
Some ships like the Hurricane or the Typhoon make great Armor Tankers. But it is also a fact that all ships with tanking Bonuses have the Bonus for Shields.
If you want to go for Minmatar forget cross-training for a while, because to make really maximum use of the Minmatar ships you have to master Shield and Armor tanking.

If the ships you are planning to fly have 6-7 low slots then armor tanking is viable. Typically armor tanking is for closer ranges then other passive tanking but doesn't have to be.

I don't know why ppl ask questions where the answers are obvious from studying. All u really need to do is use eft (eve fitting tool) and also just look at forums under ships/mods for ideas and then train the skills so u can use the necessary mods...
Further, minmatar, has ships that use armor tanking also--one would shield tank a maelstrom but would armor tank a typhoon. I fly 3 races and so have trained the skills for both shield and armor tanking... Just go to the market and read thru the descriptions of the skills in each category... For instance there are both shield and armor compensation skills--if u have chosen to armor tank then look to buy skills that will improve your armor tank... Look at the typhoon and train the skills that would best able u to fly it well and u will have a lot of skills trained (as typhoon is skill intensive) Don't forget all the drone skills. |
