why the lol's?
I am currently petitioning CCP for reimbursement for a different set of circumstances and their rules are very draconian. They rather screw a few innocents for the sake of the game than try to help and resolve things, vis-s-vis "as per our policy...."
My loss is no where near that of a titan but I do share your frustrations in the bureaucracy of that is CCP.
Can't Comprehend Problems anyone?

Given their history I don't see why anyone would trust CCP.

Risk vs Reward. I love all of the former and current enablers getting a little hot under the collar with this thread.
Do your research on who you are dealing with would be my advice, also not dealing with unknowns on an account that has a titan would be a good start.
If you are innocent sorry for your loss, but I will never know my man.

Can they ever prove it?
Only when you admit it.
if the guy is a known isk seller then clearly they should have some kind of record just saying !

I always thought that buying isk for your in-game opponents in order to get them banned wouldn't work because CCP was too smart.

They would have to have somekind of evidence stating that the isk was from an isk seller. Generally a large amount of isk that is transferred from one player to another would get flagged and a GM would catch that. It's happened to one of my ex-corpmates in TRI that after he spent the isk buying a tita bpo, the char he used got banned for a good 30 min or so as he petitioned where he got the isk from which was not from an isk seller. Eventually they lifted the banstick off him and moved on about his business which the corp finished building the titan which TRI still flies to this day. Regardless if people laugh at the situation, it does open the eye of many corps or alliances that have a large sum of isk to watch themselves closely so it may not happen to others.

You've got two options when dealing with this kind of situation:
1) Let them rat in your space for free, petition them time and time and time again, and CCP won't do anything. If they do, the farmers will make a new account and be back the next day.
2) Treat them like any other player/corporation looking for space. Let them pay rent for standings and for the use of your space. Ask as few questions as possible and let them go about their business.
If CCP actually cared about isk selling, they would actually take time to investigate claims that people are farming. Then follow the money. But they don't. So it's not hard to see why many make the logical choice of getting something for their trouble instead of letting these leeches mooch off their space. ---

Yup
It's become apparent, that CCP's method, pardon the analogy, for treating a wound is to hack at various limbs and "hope for the best" which applies not only to cases like this but in-game balance issues aswel
A lot of people say, well, you must know who you are doing buisness with, but, if someone is renting with no apparent 'illegal' activties then how the hell are we the players suppose to know? If Joe Blogg's is buying isk and we purchase something of them, how are we suppose to know? If someone macro mines and put's shit up on contract and we buy from them, how are we suppose to know?
Did I miss a content patch whereby we can validate other player's are genuine, that they have indeed gotton there iskies the 'legal' way...are there in-game P.I's now to check on there crdential's?
I find it a great hypocracy, that CCP endorses GTC's but condones ISK buying simply becuase they are the ones recieving the cash, I also find it irritating when people assume CCP are infaluable when detecting crooks and handing out appropriate punishments considering CCP's own in house coruption that probably went on for years!
Eve ain;t dying yet, but the moment real competition hit's the market, there in for an awakening that a lot of people are not happy about last year, still hold a grudge and haven't moved on yet simply becuase were waiting for the next one to hit..btw, due out in november.

I am not defending CCP. They have been crooked in the past for sure. We ALL know this. This fact doesnt give a free ride to knowing enablers though IMO. You forgot the third if it is 0.0...kill them. My current organisation has a strict KOS policy of all known farmers if the situation presetns itself.
If you are smart you will take as many precautions to secure your holdings as humanly possible. If you handle transactions of this type there is no reason why anything valuable should be in jeopardy of being banned. You have the resources to see that the risk is as minimal as possible. Why even take the chance? If it isnt enough money to buy GTCs for an account specificaly for this purpose and still make a profit I would say that the reward doesnt out weight the risk. Wouldnt you?
Would the OP have written this post if an account that he used GTCs as a payment and had no assets of any value on it had been banned? I personally dont think so.
