Our game is busted.
If we reimbursed everyone who lost a ship because our game is busted, our game would be even more busted.
We don't want our game to get any more busted than it is.
You aren't getting your ship back.
I do not at all care about the ship, i just really wanted CCP to reply and just confirm what their GM said in my petition. If so we have a totally new game here gents.
Please, pray tell....
What would this accomplish other than....
....stirring up a whiny hornets nest.... ....and your e-peen??.....

The smell of BS is strong with this one.
Misconception 1: Its the Internetz
It's not the internetz. If it were, those thousands of of day traders staring at their realtime charts and graphs which are all driven by just a few data feeds worldwide would be SOL. Damn, I could have made 10 grand on that trade, but the f'n lag got me? Right.
If you don't believe it, hook a packet sniffer up and look at how much actual traffic is passing between the eve client and server. It's hardly router-busting.
Misconception 2: More CPUs will Help
Maybe a little bit, but from what I've read, CCP's server side code is written in Python, which is kind of a hobbyist language that doesn't get used much in large scale apps. Their code doesn't multi-thread. Adding more CPUs would mean adding more separate processes that then have to communicate with each other through some global state somehow. Bottom line: Doesn't scale well.
The easy answer is "throw more hardware at it", which goes on all the time in the IT world. It looks like CCP is doing this with gusto, but at the end of the day that'll only get you so far. Nothing short of a complete rewrite in a more appropriate language with advanced performance techniques is going to give them a quantum leap in performace at this point.
Doing a re-write would be incredibly risky and expensive. Read: Not going to happen.
From what I'm seeing, I don't think there's much question that the problem is getting worse, which makes sense to anyone who works in the software biz. If you regularly add more features and enhancements, introducing regressions, including performance regressions, is fairly likely.
The only way to fix it (somewhat) is through fairly radical game mechanics changes that heavily incent players not to blob up. The long term fix, of course, is that one of these years the player base will start to decline. Those still around and playing when the player base is down under 100K will probably enjoy a fairly lag free game.

Seriously, they may do that, but I have never heard of that. |

I have been in over a dozen battles with over 200 ppl in the last month. All of those have been "playable". Is that some sort of freak occurence or are you talking out your backside? |

Could be either if he were the only one saying it. Is everyone who keeps reporting outrageous loading and activation times experiencing a "freak occurance" or "talking out their ass"? |
