For the most part I think its my favorite looking BS ascetically speaking. Great Tank and DPS once you have a tone of skills, but I still hear that it is more or less, well, cap death . . .
They Have told me go Apocalypse if I desire to fly Ammar in PVE. I would like to hear some 411 from people who are actually (and have actually) flown these ships in missions.
Also if you are willing general Fittings and minimal Skill requirements (I know the SP is quiet a bit) that would make this ship and/or the Apocalypse effective . . .

Any battleship can run lvl4's really, some just more efficient. If you like the feel of the Abaddon, go for it. I used it on missions for a long time, but eventually the lack of damage variation caused me to go Minmatar ;-p
For a general fitting, I'd go with a rack of Mega Beams, cap rechargers in mids and maybe a tracking computer or other utility module, and for the lows something like: Large Armor Rep, 3 Hardeners, 3 Heat Sinks

Edited by: Izralys on 21/08/2008 22:51:15 Been running lvl 4s in my Abaddon for a short while now. Managed to do Enemies Abound 5/5 a few days ago, and although I couldn't break the tank of the Darkanas on my own (used my salvaging battlecruiser's drones on my other account to help), I was able to tank them all long enough to finish the rest.
Still using T1 Mega Pulse with faction crystals till I get my T2 training done. Pulses fit better than beams, and stuff wont go further away than 50k anyway, which you should be able to reach. Cap rechargers in mids. My lows depend on the mission, either 2x LAR II / 1x EANM II / 2x hardener II / 1x DC II / 1x CPR II (will run forever) Or switch out the 2nd LAR II and a CPR II for heat sinks. Sometimes a med cap recharger for a tracking computer. 3x CCC rigs
I do tend to skip gurista missions because of the damage thing, but if you stick with Amarr agents, it'll probably work out ok.

I find the Abaddon excellent for running lvl 4s. (Of course 8M sp in gunnery helps.)
This isn't the loadout I use, but it's a darn good one using only cheap T2 modules.

Never had problems. I kill everything before cap runs out. If it does, I just run the booster a bit. Perma tanking is like training wheels; you're castrating your speed so that you can run it with your eyes shut. I don't know about you, but I find missions boring enough as it is.

I get a fair deal of Gurista missions and also Angel WC + AE. I tried two different Amarr regions doing Amarr missions, not much difference in frequency of laser hostile missions.

Edited by: Karma on 22/08/2008 09:01:33 cap booster for missions? Eeww.
I used to fly an Abaddon for level 4s, now I fly an Apoc instead. the Abaddon needs all of the capacitor-based skills up to level 5 to work, but with that, it can wreak quite a lot of havoc, and the tank can be GODMODE... if there is one thing that I felt was bad about it, it was that the capacitor can only support one of those. either you get a ton of gank, or you get a ton of tank. no in-between at all.
I'm currently flying a Apoc cause it actually HAS an in-between. and the range makes it great for sniping in missions. frigates and cruisers are all dead before they even get close to you. obviously the Apoc Navy Issue is better than both of them.
also, the apoc looks sexy as hell.
PS: dude, your sig. a bit big, no?

Abaddon is okay on all missions part from Angels, where their resists make the Laser's damage types cry. Been using it for a while, though I have to say I prefer the domi.

I used to fly an Abaddon before i got my paladin, imo it was the best lvl 4 Amarr BS back then duo to the simply fact it did mean damage while still having a decent tank duo to the resist. This only works with a gank setup and not attemting perma run though
I used a tachy setup with 7 modulated tachyon energy beams duo to same dmg/range as T2 but with lower grid/cap usage. 2 TCs, 2 (sometimes 3) HS, LAR, 2 mission specifik hardeners and cap mules for the rest
Mega beam setup has better DPS, but the difference is small and mega beams use more cap, tachs also has better range and way better alpha (why 2 voley NPC BCs when you can one voley ;))
MPII setup is also very decent but got fed up with buying new Scorch crystals all the time and. when fighting merch and EOM tachy with MF was way more efficient than scorch duo to their resist, Also Tachy can use faction crystals for ALOT of missions duo to the higher damage/lower rate of fire ratio

Having flown both for doing lvl 4's I prefer the abaddon now but when I was say sub 15m skillpoints I found the apoc to be easier to use with less skills. I was particularly fond of the navy apoc....but I flew the apoc in the days it got the cap bonus I have yet to use one since the change to range bonus. Abaddon is a cap hungry ship but quite effective. Either works well against most anything aside from guristas and angels in my experience.

This. With that setup you should be able to run any level 4 missions without a single warp out (Sansha/Blood/Angels, not sure about Serpentis, forget Guristas) ------------

check out the concept art for the abaddon: http://staff.ccpgames.com/asgeir/gallery/displayimage.php?album=5&pos=10 i couldnt wait for the ship to be released after i saw that
the abaddon is supposed to be a gank style ship, but you can turn it into a tanked up beast if you want to. i run mine with 2 large reps and 8 pulse lasers, all running cap stable. not the most efficient way to earn isk but it is a nice safe way and better than my new domi.
with pulse lasers you melt any close range ships with the nice dps, and can track the cruisers that get into orbit on you.
the only time my lasers struggle is vs the guristers. most of the time i can kill the other rats 50km snipers with t1 crystals but those pesky guristers need scorch or MF in the face. to make up for the lack of AB i use 2 webby drones to help me catch the snipers up, that is more important than the t2 guns if your running pulses.
i do have a lot of skills for this, but my fit is also used by a friend who is training up a combat alt, and he says it does just fine.
High: 8 * Mega Pulse Laser II (t1 does work, scorch is a nice bonus tho and pays for its self easy enough)
Med: 4 * Cap Recharger II (hungry cap beast...)
Low: 2 * Large Armor Repairer II 3 * Rat Specific Hardener II 2 * Capacitor Power Relay II (real hungry)
Rigs: 2 or 3 * Capacitor Control Circuit I (did i mention how hungry she was?) Auxiliary Nano Pump I (if your lucky enough to be stable with just 2 CCC's!)
Drones: 5 * Hobgoblin II (for frig swatting) 2 * Berserker SW-900 (these you cant skimp on, especially if u dont have t2 guns)
the nice thing about this ship is her bonuses make for a great tank vs explosive rats. safe as houses unless you try and get full room aggro and forget to turn the tank on... tho to be fair she did survive that slip up. its when i tried to get full room aggro to protect a young pilots first BS that i didnt do so well. still havent learnt to leave the smegging drones behind and get out . other than those 2 cases the tank has never struggled. so fly her smart and she wont let you down. Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage |

I have an abaddon setup I use on blood/sansha. It can deal with gurista but is really not the best option for them and i've never bothered trying it on angels. Main idea with this setup is to apply dps hard and fast to minimize incoming damage. 8x Tachyon modulated energy beam 4x cap recharger t2 3x heat sink t2 1x large rep t2 1x reactor control unit t2 1x thermal hardener 1x em hardener 3x ccc rigs Multi freq hits out 30-50, xray will go out to around 50-75 and I bring microwave in case some strays are out around 90. In sansha/blood missions my biggest problem is locking things fast enough to have targets as I clear out the small ships. Bear in mind the tank is not what I'd consider strong and if you screw up it could be costly but the raw dps the tachs do combined with the very nice range really make it fun to fly. This setup works with bs 4 and large energy turret 4 although more is better of course.

I have run l4,s in an Abbadon, using projectiles instead of lasers, does them easily, not going to post any of my set up experiments, but I cannot see how it would fail to tank any mission. It has the ability to be an extream tank or high DPS ship its finding the balance, which is the trick with all ships

I use the exact same setup as Doc Imp, and it works perfectly. I see some people are suggesting pulse lasers, but I think those are better on Apocalypse due to the optimal range bonus.
