You obviously couldn't really afford to lose a raven, despite the fact that you can pay to assemble another one. It is a major set back in your eyes.

So? Go out and lose twenty more and maybe you'll get over it.
It's the missions that make you believe that losing a ship is something special. It isn't. Go out and play the game instead of hugging an agent.

I think the answer of "never fly anything you can't afford to lose" simply means "I don't know."
I usually play the game on the principle of stacking up supplies before starting any fight, and I would not fly battleships unless I had the ability to purchase and outfit 5 on the spot. It's always been like that, so I've never experienced a situation where I suffered a "massive loss" in-game, and I have no clue how I'd deal with it.

Buy two ravens. Fit both, insure one and fly it.
When the first dies, all you have to do is dock up and jump in your other Raven. With insurance, you only lose 20-30 million.
I think I lost a Dominix on my second level 4.. turns out, I wasn't supposed to try to fight the mission "Recon"... *Shrugs*. It's not a big deal. Buy another, try again. I also managed to lose a drake because my PC froze when I warped in, and I couldn't activate my hardeners.. that one made me laugh. (It was also a noobish fit, with shield flux coils.. )
Now, when I lose a ship (usually to PVP) I have 30+ sitting in my Hangar. Usually 1-2 identical ships, plus whatever else I might want. So, lose ship, say "welp", jump in a new ship... and then worry about restocking the next time I'm working on ISK. |

Do that in missions and you'll never need a plan B.
This, this is pretty much how i run my missions, first thing i do is align to something going AWAY from the targets if i can, and then yes, i take out any frigs that have aggressed me, and if another group is far out, then the first targets i shoot are the frigs, specifically so i cant be warp jammed and / or webbed, it should be pretty easy, i can snipe frigs from 50-65km out w/ my LARGE rail guns, and anything that gets to close, i sick my drones on em
the staying aligned part is obvious, if things get to hairy, you can insta warp out as soon as your tank beings to break, i havent had to warp out of to many missions, one that really annoys me though is Pot and Kettle: the Mine field you have to clear out, i never shoot the spawn rats, so i just shhoot all the mines, and at the end of the mission, i always wind up w/ like 50 heavy missiles hitting me at once, lmao

So how do you handle it? I'm curious.
Yeah losing a ship can be a bit dispiriting. I dunno, I guess I just suck it up and be careful. 1 solid evening of L4ing should get you enough ISK to have your safety net again.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

I've suffered from many devastating losses. A Raven covered in Dread Guristas stuff was popped by a group of blues due to a mistake on their part. A Raven covered in Caldari Navy equipment in to gankers. And quite recently, a faction fitted Paladin.
In fact, I've lost such a ridiculous amount of ships that I've armored myself in indifference. I just stopped caring. The grief would've overwhelmed me by now if I really cared about ship losses.

Generally: if you cannot afford to buy a ship a few times over, don't fly it.
I handle losses by having a big financial buffer so only the long term profit-loss balance (read: net profit after a while) matters, and short-term losses don't matter.

When I lose a ship, either I don't mind and understand why, or if it bothers me, then I think about what I did wrong. As long as I find the answer, I've become a better EVE pilot. But if your skills are low for the Raven, you'll keep losing then in missions. If that's the case, scale back and be patient. Get back in a Drake and do level 3's. Also, many EVE players have a second game they play when they need easy gratification. Once in a while I am a German U-Boat Commander.
And if you want to pvp, specialize in small ships like interceptors first, you'll have a lot of fun and not have heavy losses.

Teka a brief break. So something else for a while. It will feel better tomorrow, and you can be back in the saddle (and probably will be enthusiastic about it).
On missions, specifically, try to read up on them before doing them (eve survival is a good, up to date, resource for this) -- it helps you to survive them, as the site's title suggests, because some of them can throw some nasty surprises at you.

I usually have to take a break for the rest of the day. However, if I have another ship ready to go, I'm all set to jump back into whatever it was I was doing. It's the feeling of "oh man, I have to go buy all that stuff again" that dampens my mood more than the isk loss. That said, I have yet to lose anything I could not afford to replace.

The best way to approach it is to accept that sooner or later, you're going to lose the ship.
Fly any ship long enough and it's very likely you will lose it.
If you're PvPing, then consider your ship as lost before you even get into the fight. If you keep it alive, it's a bonus, but it's best to think of it as lost from the word go. |

since when was this game ever about having stuff? really though, all IÆve been able to afford is a cruiser (give most of my isk away, simply donÆt need it) really I donÆt see the point of doing missions if your only doing them to get the isk for a better ship to do more missions with
You may think IÆm a bit of noob for thinking/doing this but I honestly donÆt care, I know IÆm never going to have the best ship in eve, so why worry about getting it?

I would have to ask a question.
Are you in competition with others or yourself?
If you are in competition with others, what is the chance of achieving that level of ISK to be on par of the elite? Time?
If you are in competition with your self, which it sounds like you are, then the realization that you are, can overcome those feelings of loss. After all, why would you compete with yourself?
It is a game and especially against a mission, there is no fault, only learned experience. There are no losers against the AI, only mishaps, bad planning, etc.
So, unless you are on some score board with the rest of EvE in competition so that your bottom line ISK is important, take a deep breath, nod once, and continue forward with what you learned from the self imposed loss.

1. Be in a decent corp. 2. Don't fly what you can bareley afford. 3. Have several ships ready 4. Do something else for a while - also is a good occasion to learn new ship types and experience other aspects of Eve --- ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

Just go do something else and fly another ship. Your battlewagon is not the best ship in EVE just the best ship to solo missions. Go dust off a cruiser and fly around and poke fun at people. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. I don't live by don't fly what you can't afford to lose. Don't undock it if you are not prepared to lose it. I have several toys I bring out now and again which would (and have) put me on the back foot financially if I lost them and were required to replace.
If you do lose something expensive make sure it's a good, worthy death taking some of them down with you (obviously discount missions, who dies in them anymore). Assumption of Risk |

Massive loss? Dunno, never let it happen.
I would have thought it would add motivation though. I feel least motivated when everything is easy. If I didn't want difficulty, I wouldn't be playing EVE. -

Years ago I lost a Gist type B XL-booster in a level 4.
I couldnt bring myself to play for a week. And at the time they were cheap only about 100 mill a piece.
Since then I probably wouldnt feel more than annoyed at losing anything. But I also just stick with Tech2 gear so I just cant loose much.
If you think corp is different than a guild or clan you have some insecurity issues.
