Meaning, how do you motivate yourself when you have a massive loss in the game?
For example, I just lost a Raven during a mission. It was insured and I should have barely enough money to buy another one and refit it, but whenever I log back on I really don't feel excited to step back in.
So how do you handle it? I'm curious.

It all begins there.

Read the post guys . It's not about being able to afford another one. It's not about preparing yourself for a plan B. It's about accepting the fact that you just had a setback and how you handle mentally working with yourself for it.

I did read it, hence the 5x...it seems less of a setback, its about perspective for me

-Stay alligned to something if you think you're going to receive some considerable hurt.
-Don't aggro all the spawns at once.
-Alpha frigates from distance or set the drones on them.
Do that in missions and you'll never need a plan B.

I try different things for a while be it exploration or lowsec pvp or tying to make my way to 0.0 to rat/pvp usually after a while I am ready to grind some missons again.

Go back to doing missions.
First, I get to pwn rats and imagine that they are the guys that just pwnd me.
Secondly, its good money, unstressful, and easy.
And always have an alt that you can suicide against a pirate or two to let off steam.

It is pretty easy. Losses are just a part of the game. So its not an issue.
It is just a game.
Just pick up and move on.

Newbie running his first set of level 4s, not paying enough attention, got warp scrambled and ship went boom.
I could certainly afford to lose it though. Even if I don't have enough (130 mil right now) I can run level 3s in my Drake until I get it fitted again. It's just a bit of a setback.

Got podded in low-sec in a Harby with 75m in implants.
Ears were ringing, numb with shock, felt like s***,
Replaced everything, then got podded again while picking up some friggin' containers in a 0.4 system.
Couldn't believe my bad luck.
All on Christmas Day.
Swore not to be so stupid again, went about replacing everything again.
Some months back,I had spent 3 months trading to get 2B in stash, so as to not get that "broke again" feeling and have to rat forever in high sec. You might want to consider a 3 month sidetrack.

The Eve-survival guide is available ingame. I have it favorited, and when i go do lvl4 missions, i open it, and see whats in stock for me. You wil never have any problem running lvl4's as long as you stick by the guide. ___________________________________

I drink a bunch of belgian beer then go on a poasting spree.
Also, I look forward to naming the new ship since I try to come up with a new name for each one. My latest Raven is Calamari Fraction.
I need to buy another gun boat because Boni for Turrents is waiting in the queue...
Dumb? Probably. But who cares! It entertains me, so...

Running missions is a means to achieve a goal not the goal itself. Well I guess its a sub goal.
Thats why player turn over is high you don't have anything to aim for.
Think about why you're doing the missions in the first place and get excited about that. If you're just doing missions to get more ships and better mods to do more missions I'm not surprised you're deflated.

I did read the post. I was addressing the issue in a preventative manner.
As for the mental aspect, there's really not much to say. I've never felt crushed or defeated when losing something in combat to a player or to an NPC, if anything it's motivated me to look at what went wrong and see if there's some way to change my fitting/tactics.
I dunno, I never find myself needing to calm myself down after losing an internet spaceship. That's just me.

If you feel frustrated losing a ship that badly you must have invested a lot of isk into it. Most ships I fly I make sure i can get a new one asap. Ive never really felt bad about losing a ship. Chalk up another loss and move on. Try not to repeat the mistake.

If you've a proper logistical scheme, there's not much mentally to worry about...not much psychological impact at all. If you have three to five of each type of vessel you like to fly in each given area you may operate out of, you just hop in a replacement and go at it again. Later, when you have free time, you go out and buy a replacement for what was lost.
Preferably two replacements.
So, yeah, it starts with not flying what you can't afford to lose...and continues with always buying more than you need. If I'm pvping in a given area, I grab a ship from the closest station or outpost...if I lose it, I go back and reship...and hopefully re-engage having made the proper adjustments for whatever took me out. Between insurance and hopefully some loot from winning round two (never a given of course) I can replace what I lost. And then with the other isk I have from regular isk-generating activities I can get yet another of what I lost.
The end result for me is a perpetually low wallet but a crap-ton of pvp assets.

I'm currently recovering from that kind of loss. It's just a game, but I feel like I had a great big shiny ball given to me, and then a sniper took aim and popped it right as I was about to make it take its first bounce.
I had lost my hawk, and a manticore. Eh. I thought, sometimes you make stupid mistakes.
SO then I got my first escalation... followed it around... and got a Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field. And so I jumped for home, 2 jumps away. And got ganked on thesecond jump by pirates.
Yeah. Not whining. I know I should have dropped it off first then scouted. But when you get handed something like that, and think to yourself, "oh boy, I don't have to pay for eve for 60days! *pop* ..." it's very depressing.

I notice I lost the ship.
Then I start thinking of what ship to fly next.
I think its a age thing. With age, you get perspective on things. Losing pixels in a game means nothing.
Or maybe its a personality thing. Ive never been annoyed for losing a game. Even when I wtfpwned everybody in Fear multiplayer and got kicked off the server for them thinking I was cheating... it just amused me.
