So today i was playing Eve, when i realized a small debate started in the corp chat. The subject? "Do girls play EVE" Now this sounds in a way like im mocking either girls or the game eve but im not.
Someone mentioned that there was no girls who played eve, and another said that there are. My personal opinion was i really dont think girls play eve, vid games yes, Eve, NO. I think out of the 30 000 people online right now there will be less than 500 playing.
This then arises another topic on this subject... Who is the hottest girl out there who has an eve account...?

Yes, they do. Use eve voice more and you will hear one or two. They are heavily outnumbered, however, partly because it is a self-fulfilling prophecy that there are no girls in Eve. It's stated so often that the girls that do come in iften drift away again. The environment and attitude of the players and even the game itself tends to alienate them.

5% of the playerbase is female (statistic published by CCP). So out of your 30,000 number, 1500 would be female. Two of the CSM reps are female.
As for your other questions about who's hot and pics, get a life.

Wow statistics and everything, thats cool. I didn't make this thread to be a pervert creep in anyway. I thought id ask because it was something people were talking about. And as for pics and stuff, like i said a non creepy way, I think it would be ****in awesome to get some girls posting pictures and i bet A lot of other people would agree. But anyways Mr.Statistics gave me the answer. Thanks!

I've heard rumors that females only make up a few percentage points of the playerbase, and I'd be surprised if this wasn't true.
Competition - and not just the friendly type (definitely not the friendly type) is the central theme of Eve.
And even though I'm really trying not to stereotype here, this really isn't the kind of gameplay that appeals to most females. ---

Well, since my wife and I sit right next to each other and play every night, I can guarantee that there is at least *one* girl who plays. We use voice chat, so fleet up with us sometime and listen for yourself.
Also, another anecdotal reference: this same conversation came up the other night in npc corp chat and I challenged some "girl" who just sounded to me like a guy, the way he was talking. Well, she got out a webcam and took pictures of herself holding up a sign with my name. Surprise of all surprises, she wasn't bad looking. I have to admit, I suffer from the same prejudices that you seem to: I was surprised to learn that a good looking girl would be playing EVE all alone at night, hanging around in chat with a bunch of guys. Amazingly, some do.

We just don't go around with a giant billboard above our heads saying woman here. For my own reasons is because it always leads to the innevitable "There are no womenz on the internetz!" followed by "Pics plz". It's annoying.
There actually was a corp in eve comprised completly of women though. I am not sure if they are still around or not. To join you just had to log onto vent and talk to prove you were a woman. Not that difficult.

the thing i have found compared to other mmos is that the reaction here is...a little different.
For example, if i am sitting happily chatting to someone in a convo, helping the out with something, and say, after 20 minutes, i mention "well, i normally fleet with my boyfriend and provide support with my osprey" (while discussing early available support ships) the following responses have occured:
"ooooh, a girl, cool"...this is the usual mmo response, has happened in about half of convos "lol, sorry, didnt know you were a girl, will ask someone else" Convo tab: you are alone...happens in about 1/4 of the discussions
".........." again, left alone in convo, happens in the remainder.
personally, when i have people with the latter responses, i add them to my list of names to go hunting for at a later date if having a convo with a member of the female gender about an interweb spaceships game is not in their realm of possibility, then getting shot down by one is even further out of their imagination.....aside from that, i am nice, and fluffy in game...honest

The convo window system in this game kinda sucks; you have to open all these windows for every private conversation you want to have... I don't like it. I much prefer the system where all channels are displayed in the same window, with different colors, and you just use /slash commands to direct your text to specific channels.
All my convos are of the "quick ask/answer a question then disconnect" type, although, just like with telephone conversations, I think the polite thing to do is to start with "Hello" and end with "Have to go, good bye."
Thing is, people leave the channel or stop responding in most other games too, and it just seems less rude because the comms are all combined into one window.

Yes, women play EVE, my boyfriend can testify to that. :)
I just think most of us don't feel the need to inform everyone. In terms of immature behaviour towards the presence of women in 'their' online game, I think EVE is a decade behind most other MMO's, probably because the general concensus seems to be that EVE doesn't appeal to women and therefore they should be non-existent - despite the fact that CCP itself proves otherwise.
In terms of the reactions of other EVE players if you tell them that you're a woman, some are cool about it and some others just start acting funnily. I don't care either way. If anyone asks for proof though they can just forget about it, I'm not about to start handing out pictures on demand - real men don't need proof, they will take a person's word for it.
So yes, I'm a girl playing EVE and proud of it - now when are we getting customizable ship war-paint?

I've tried using that one before. Someone told me I'm a guy until they see pictures. I just replied that I am 99% sure they are a woman and that they need to send me pictures to prove me wrong.
I've never understood why people feel that I need to prove which gender I am, yet feel no need to prove which gender they are.

Not really sure why some of us men act like asshats when we recognize we're talking to a woman.
Some I'd chalk up to being teenage boys, and treating the game as a type of online dating service, fapping to their skimpy Gallente alts on the side. Others are probably just not used to much female contact in the game, considering its like 20:1 men to women at last count, and you're somewhat anonymous on the internet.

Hehe think he meant '..how many women..'
As for an answer to that question, you'd be surprised... I know quite a few women who have made and are still are playing a male toon. I for one have toyed with the idea but dismissed it mostly on two grounds:
1. I don't like the male toons in most of the games I've played - they always seem too clunky and just not as well designed as the female characters.
2. If you play a female toon most people are bright enough to consider that you might be a dude playing a girl, or a girl playing a girl - if you play a male toon everyone will automatically assume you are MALE.

Sorry to offend "most" of you, but it's true that man (mostly arround 20~25) act like little children if they find out you are a girl lil' story about something that happend to me once:
When I just started I was asking alot of things on the rookie chat because of the complexity of this game (for me, it was complex)and some-1 recognized I was a girl, he sent me an ingame mail, we talked for a bit in private chat. I didn't even knew him for a week or so and he started to ask for picture's.. I don't know what it is for men to have picture's of a woman who is like 1000 km away from your hometown, I mean, I dont ask boys for pictures of themselves, do I? :-P.
It's not that boys are irritating for girls in this game, most are very friendly all the time! (that is one of the many reasons why I play this game =]). I also think most of the girls which are playing already have a boyfriend, so there is not really a reason to ask for picca's
Well I hope you understand what I mean :P
Cheers, Arkena Firelance

I promoted a woman to co-leader in the few years I GM'd an endgame guild in that other game.
And we had a female member in the corps up until recently that was very active and vocal about all corporate matters, and any regular conversations.
However, even within my own corporation, it was sometimes a case of those ... awkward teenage boys realizing, OH NOZ A GIRL /o\ HOW DO I ACT WHAT DO I SAY?!
It was amusing, she nonchalantly announced that she was a girl in passing during a convo when only a few of us were around. Being the mostly rational and respectable man that I am, I took it with a grain of salt, made note of it in my mind, and moved on.
A few days later, one of the younger male members of the corps logged on, and again, the topic came up one way or another, that she was a girl. His immediate response was to go "Yer a girl?" and then ten minutes of silence when she said, "Indeed." Every time after that, he was constantly and awkwardly hitting on her, praising her veteran EVE knowledge in a naive and peevish manner, and she took it with grace and just kind of ignored it, you know how it is.
She struck a perfect balance IMO with that particular member (kept him at arm's length like an overzealous puppy), but in light of that it still does not matter what they do, how they do it, or what they say, and how they say it, girls get the short end of the stick in most MMOs because they are considered by the majority of males to be in "our private clubhouse". Kind of like if the cops are called on a rowdy poker party of all males, and it is a female cop who knocks on the door, what is the first thing they are gonna think when they answer the door? It's an unfortunate reality, TBH.
Most of the time, they can handle themselves just fine, but there are occasions where you need to step in and be like, "Hey, give me a break, she isn't your personal play toy, she's just another player in an online game like the rest of us, leave her be or I'll smash your face."
So, when the OP asked, like so many other males have throughout MMO history, "pictures or it never happened", then you should prolly feel free to step in with the obligatory "Silence! I keel you!", otherwise I'm fairly certain that women who play MMOs can take care of themselves just fine

I mentor new players because I enjoy doing it, and secondarily because sometimes they turn out to become really skilled pilots that can help me out when I get in trouble.
If I'm mentoring some player who turns out to be female, and she decided to reward me with pics, that'd be okay with me (depending on how cute she is, of course), but I'd really prefer her to instead "reward" me by just "passing it on", in that once she has become an experienced pilot, she in turn teaches and mentors new players.
Same as with the modest 150k ISK donation I give to noobs. Don't pay that back to me. Pay it forward instead.

Eh ...
I don't care.
If they're chicks ... fine ... they're chicks. Mostly I try and treat them with the same level of consideration and mistrust as I would anyone else in this game.
However, I don't necessarily believe it when someone says they're a chick. Some guys will do that so people will be nicer to them. There were even a couple of 12 year old boys over at Planetside who posted pictures of their cute - older (like 18) - neighbors, saying that that was them. I don't remember how they dealt with teamspeak.
I also have in mind the picture I saw once of some big, fat, hairy, naked dude sitting in a chair in front of his computer with a caption that indicated he was pretending to be a chick. The picture was posted as a joke but ... that didn't mean it wasn't real.
Now - for those girls wondering why men ask for pic's - the above is one reason. They don't want some fat, hairy, guy to be tricking them. But, as above that - pic's mean - NOTHING. That chick that held up the guys name above with the web cam - could - have been the real posters girl friend or sister. Even voices aren't a guarantee. Of course the other reason they want a pic - is that if you're an ugly chick they aren't going to want to talk to you either.
Anyway, I tend to assume that they are all male regardless of what they say. Since I don't treat them any differently - it doesn't freaking matter.
Given the amount of lying and scamming that goes on in this game why would I believe anything anyone said about anything?
Yeah. I'm sure that there are real chicks playing EVE. So? What do I care? Last I checked ... I was here to play a space ship game ... not get a date. If I was after a date ... I think I'd go somewhere that had a slightly higher ratio of chicks.
Russian Brides maybe? Or maybe not ... looks like there's a few scams there ...
Although ... I do know a guy IRL which that did work out for ...
