Right I've been doing level 4 missions fine for about a week now with the help of some of the mission guides so I know what to tank for, but Angel Extravaganza just came up and I just wanted to know if I should just pass on this mission because my skills my not be able to tank it. just wanted ur opinions on the matter please :)
I'm using a megathron, which depending on if I setup for tank or dps can tank about 300-400 dps (may be less in this mission because of the broad range of damage type though) and the dps output is about 290-330. I know its not loads but up to now I've been doing lvl4's fine with that setup, only having to warp out a few times, mostly if I aggroed the wrong target by mistake.
I'm leaning towards giving this 1 a miss because it looks a little too much for my current lvl of tanking/dps but just wanted some opinions, thx guys |

You should be ok to do the main rooms, just stay aligned at all times. I assume you have relatively decent drone skills? There are webbers/scramblers in every room from memory.
Avoid the bonus room.

AE is also about managing your aggro by killing spawn triggers when you can manage the next spawn. Some rookie goes in shooting on every BS he sees pretty soon he's looking at a wall of red crosses wondering why he's losing his ship.
Sometimes the triggers are clear, sometimes they are not. Sometimes when there are two BS remaining with nothing to distinguish one of them as the trigger I'll attack one, then I'll switch fire so that if the first of the two I kill is the trigger, the other is almost dead.
If you have to ask if you can tank the bonus room, don't do the bonus room.
I actually find AE to be one of the easier missions to tank. I run a different mission ship that can do explosive damage though. Your results may vary.

AE is easy if you don't bother with the bonus room.
Even when the trigger isn't obvious, you can still make sure that you only lock the ships from the current wave and kill them first. That way if you kill the trigger early and get the next wave, you at least know that all the ships you currently have locked from the first wave won't trigger another wave so you can concentrate on killing them before starting on the next wave. This way even if you totally suck at paying attention you know you'll only ever be taking on 2 waves at a time.

Hint: form a fleet and tag the spawns......that way you'll know what spawn is what. Make sure you have an up to date mission guide for the triggers - tagging the triggers with a letter and the rest of the spawn with numbers works for me. (you don't need other fleet members to form a fleet).

Edited by: Sanzorz on 26/08/2008 05:14:21 AE is easy and you have no reason to fear it, unless due to the triggers ofcourse. There is a battleship in each wave in each of the zones that cause another wave when it's destroyed. This ship is often a Gist General or a Gist War General. Sometimes there might be 2 of them, but that's rarely a huge issue if you make a distance from the start spawns.
/edit There is no broad damage difference btw. You only find that in the bonus room, which I don't find a reason to do at all because it's nasty for most people. The 5 zones you have to go through to complete the mission is pure explosive/kinetic.

thank you very much guys, didn't realise that stage 6 was a bonus room, but now you mention it, the brief did say 5 stages not 6
It was only the bonus bit I was worried about really then, so I will give the mission a go and avoid the bonus room, thanks for you help.
PS I will post in here if I died (or not)

Cool, thanks, I'll have to try that.

Well I did that mission in the end, no problems what so ever. I took my time and salvaged as I went and netted about 40M.
My tank held up fine and the dps was enough, as long as I got in close for antimatter ammo on the larger targets. Very happy that I did the mission in the end so thanks for the advice guys.
PS I found a good way to find the mission trigger, let the drones select the target, its probably the trigger!!! bloody drones

Yup, this way works pretty well for me 2!
But really more often then not it's the highest bounty and if they have the same bounty it's usually the one further away from the warp in location.

Edited by: FlameGlow on 27/08/2008 12:32:36 I go into bouns room in my drake, it's tank is weaker then my raven's but it's rigged and fitted for maximum buffer & resists and can stay long enough to kill some ships before warp-out _____________ I don't care what is nerfed, as long as it's not my "undock" button. |

Bonus room is really not much hassle...
Just shoot the Cruise towers first and let your drones kill the webbing frigs, all the while keep aligned (just in case). When I have killed the cruise towers and frigs I normally fly straight towards the battlestation, kill the remaining cruisers and BS, saving the trigger for last (trigger spawns 6 more BS when killed).
My BS (Raven) is shield tanked. The exp damage might give some more problems to armor tankers
