just a notion i had , while pos's are dull to destroy, tey are also almost imposable to defend, one small change that might balance it a little would be to be able to configure pos's to allow alliance members with the skill to gun on other corps pos's

Have to agree that POS'es are horribly corp centric. I am hoping tho that when that POS and sov. overhaul comes eventually we will get at least proper tools to configure our hardware acsess rights. Something as simple as actually working option of 'allow alliance use' would be good altho in perfect world it would be possible to grant acsess to specific corp or even person to avoid spy issue where spy grabs controls of some guns and then does not use them to defend the pos.

You can already set most of POS modules to be used by alliance members. I haven't tried with guns yet, but I think they are one of few modules that do not work. Ship array, hangar array, etc. can be set to alliance usage.

Unfortunately this does not work with pos gunners tho, as to use pos guns one needs proper role in corp and obviously people in other corps in alliance do not have them.

POS gunners are already pretty useless then dread count reach 20-30 and not having gunners to cover all guns makes pos even more defenceles. Shouldnt it suppose to be like fortress in space? In times of BS and small dread fleets they were, but now its only a bother to kill. On other hand if you have lots of gunners you can mount lots of large guns and make cyno jammer pos even more deadlier and able to defend without support fleet, until some point.

Edited by: Zhula Guixgrixks on 26/08/2008 11:52:37 The problem is, a POS do not scale well. It has a build-in limitation. You cannot deploy more POS gunners to enhance its defensive quality but a attacker can scale his assault force very well droping tons of dreads on a POS.
We can only speculate here on CCP's motives. Either they intentionally force ppl to train caps or they underestimated current development where caps are new BS of 0.0 warfare.
