Having gotten a Raven over my Rokh as it finishes missions a lot faster, I noticed that downing the smaller Frigs can take a while if I have to wait for my drones or waste Cruise Missiles on them. I never really looked at Smartbombs before due to their small range and how they get CONCORD on you, but I recall CCP saying that anything in a mission/deadspace can be now be destroyed without problem.
As such, would any of the following get CONCORD on me if I hit it (with a Smartbomb)?:
Hitting a LCO (indestructable cargo pad or a Barren Asteroid w/e)? Hitting an Accel Gate? Hitting a beacon? Hitting wrecks/canisters?
Would I always get a warning that CONCORD will reign death if I fire the Smartbomb near something that would result in CONCORD intervention (or do Smartbomb generate no warning?)?

Smartbombs give no warning afaik. You're probably better off investing in more drone skills than fit one of these since even on large smartbombs the range ain't that big. If drone range is your problem then training ewar drones for the extra range or a drone link augemtor should help you out.

I tested a bit without getting concorded. Wouldn't use regularly though. I found that:
-You get a warning the first time you activate it, that's it. -You cannot use it within 5km of any gate. -Wrecks do not get hit, and I'm not 100%, but I don't think cans do either. NOTE: These were my own wrecks, and possibly can. Just saying they don't take damage, dunno about concord intervention despite this if they were someone elses.

Can't use them within 5km of an Accel gate or you get CONCORD? I myself have used them near an Accel gate without much problem I think. Or do you mean a Stargate? (wonder what happens if you Smartbomb a gate in low-sec) ------------------------ Ship Yield Calc Improve Mining |

it got changed so you cant activate smartbombs within 5km of a warp gate (mission) because else pirates could have been sitting on the FW gates in lowsec blowing up all small stuff. because of the huge size of warpgates this means you need to be really far from them to smartbomb.
for normal stargates you need to be the range of your smartbombs away from them... 6km smartbomb = you need to be atleast 6km away from the gate to activate the module.

I also heard that the Smartbomb triggers from the edge of your ship rather than the center, if so, does that mean the radius is bigger or just placed more towards the front or rear?
Btw I just noticed, is it me or are the EMP faction smartbombs much better than the others (Kinetic/Thermal/Explosive)? For example, a T1 EMP Smartbomb and a T1 Kinetic Smartbomb have the same damage and range, but a True Sansha EMP Smartbomb vs Dread Guristas Smartbomb is quite different.

That's because faction/deadspace/blablabla gear doesn't have the same stats. Caldari (both navy and DG) BCS, for example, have better stats than Republic Fleet BCS, which have the same stats as T2 but lower fitting requirements

Yeah you can't activate near an accel gate. I would assume this is the range of your smartbomb, i.e. 5k, 6k, 6.3k etc.
A 6300m smartie can really be useful for some of the elite frig rats. I've used from time to time but not always. Depends on mission. If I don't need a drone link in high I will fit it in that slot grid permitting.
Plus train the skills or your cap will be dry pretty quick.
Oh and drone HP skill useful too as it sort of allows you to Smartbomb your own sentries while the frigs die. Need to be careful to ensure you don't go beyond their shield, but the drone shield regen is quicker than the rats tend to rep. so can work in some instances.

Smartbombs are awesome for missions. I never leave home without one. Just don't use them if you bring friends and know you have to be 5k+ from the accel gates or it WON'T turn on.
They're great for clearing rogue drones, npc inties, player drones if you get ganked (though this still probably won't save you on a mission-fit, but spit in their eye before you pop, at least).
Generally it'll clear almost anything that orbits inside 5km in 2-3 pulses. Also, if you get good at timing it, it pops all missiles in range when it pulses, too. So it can actually help you tank if you can start deleting volleys of incoming torps.
Just make sure you time it so it doesn't pop your OWN missiles, too. Yes, it can. -----------------------------------------------

Yes Smartbombs were usefull when I still ran Missions, but one warning: A single hit to a ship that is not in the same Corp as you are and you will be concord-killed.
Since the Numbers of people who are specifically scanning for mission runners and then warping to their locations, to steal wrecks and salvage has drastically increased, especially in Mission Hubs, Smartbombs are really dangerous to use.

Yeah. If a covops sneaks into your mission, and sees a smartbombing raven (or even a CNR), any pirate worth their salt is going to drive right into it. ---
