Question for those who have deeper insight into the economics of Eve online.
Can anyone give reasonable explanation for the steady and rather steep rise of Zydrine price during recent 2 months? It has rised in empire space about 20% and in ISK nominal terms seems to be topping one year high price with no inclinatio of going down. Some major wars in 0.0?
And why i dont see hordes mining corps in 0.0 hauling their zydrine for extra profit? :)

Edited by: Zaqas on 26/08/2008 22:45:50 Edited by: Zaqas on 26/08/2008 22:45:12 Quick answer - Zydrine is typically refined from drone loot.
Since the fall of the Roadkill power bloc and the intense pressure that Solar Dragons are putting on the other drone region alliances, the drone regions are completly deserted of ratters. I know this for a fact is I went for a strole around there a couple of days ago and the majority of the gates I went though were traffic controlled 18hrs after downtime (i.e no one had jumped into those systems all day).
No one killing drones means no one jumping plush + others to empire, means no carebares refining drone loot at 100% that yields loads of zydrine + other high ends. |

It could also be speculative stockpiling on news of the Orca coming out soon. I noticed a major spike in prices of the high-end minerals just before the tier 3 BS's came out a while back.

Arkonor and Bistot are also a leading supplier of Zydrine. I think it's people holding onto it instead of selling it, which I would tend to believe. It's basic supply and demand for sure, but it's easily manipulated with a large amount of money. Controlling the market on an item that has a constant flow is hard to do long-term, but easy to do over a day or two. I would think that builders have started to build things that are consuming a larger portion of the supply. Give it a month to a couple of weeks and you will see tons of miners looking for ark and bistot belts (among others as well) that will flood the market. This will help stabilize the price....

Think of it as a buying opportunity for empire ores.

If you're talking about Jaspet, even with the recent runup in prices (which I'm showing is only about 25%, and only over the last three weeks or so, nothing so dramatic as the rise in morphite), it's still garbage, although it ever-so-slightly edges out Pyro right now (by about .6 ISK per m3).
All the common drone minerals are up sharply the last month or so though - Nocxium and Megacyte are trading high as well. |

News? Where? Or news as in another rumor...?

This. Speaking as one of the carebears in question, August really sucked for drone compounds.

You'll find the little alloys that do come out of the drone regions are brought out by the ISK farmers, and thats not a huge quantity.
Most of the alloys in the drone regions are refined on-site for ships.

HYDRA collapsed, they were the only 2000+ players carebear alliance with passion to mining crokite all day long
morphite has gone up for the same reason, carebears that were mining it took a serious beating
why HYDRA? because it has 4 Jumps from Jita to 0.0 and a vast network of jumpbriges which allowed fast travels and hi volumes of trade
normally the minerals would be delivered by blockade runners, industrials and Freighters

SMASHKILL+allies/pets (5000+ players, with only a handful of jumps from highsec right the way to the middle of the drone regions) gone, replaced with entities that already had drone region access. IRON losing Malpais and busy fighting on two fronts. HYDRA not getting time for mining. KA-TET and pets again losing a region to people that already had drone regions access.
You're looking at over 10,000 players no longer inhabiting Zydrine rich areas.

mining is fundamentally different from drone drops
to mine you need to have 10 mill SP in industry and spaceship command, very few industrial pilots mine the rocks in 0.0. It is hard to maintain industrial alliance in 0.0. If the miners get devastated, they will not be replaced by PVPers who took the land.
Drone looting can be resumed by any BC capable pilot, so mining has been seriously hurt, as carebears do not self replenish quickly enough

Depends on how high zyd goes. A PvPer in a battleship (or a harb) can mine up an impressive amount of ore without having 10M in industry. If the belts are empty of rats then might as well make 20M/hour (instead of a theoretical godmode 60) mining zyd. Mining V, astrogeology III, mining drone interfacing III and mining laser upgrades III don't take what, about 2 days to train?

Here's another option from the patch notes:
'The Phased Plasma M BPO now no longer requires Zydrine in order to manufacture, however, more Pyerite, Mexallon and Isogen are required to balance the cost. '
So it's possible someone looked on the test server and started madly building Phased Plasma M because they figured the value of the other minerals that were added when refined was worth more.

I'd like to point out that apparently CCP thought that there was a flood of zydrine after they added some missions like Attack of the Drones, so then they changed plush compound to not contain zydrine. They didn't want to drastically reduce plush's value or tweak what alloys drones drop so the zydrine's approximate value was replaced with 3200 tritanium and 800 pyerite. This makes plush a good mineral compression commodity with 40.29m3 of minerals per one 1m3 unit of plush. |

Plush still contains 9 zydrine, it used to contain 18 I believe, that was when Zydrine hit the low of about 1200/unit. |

So in my opinion it seems perfect opportunity for combat minded alliances to start accepting and encouraging industrial corporations into their 0.0 space for mining. Everyone wins - miners get resources for their manufacturing while combatants get items they need.
I wonder why i see so little of activity from combat alliances pushing this agenda. Empire Space is full of industrial corporations who just want a place to mine and are simply waiting for someone to provide them the opportunity.
