Edited by: Zhenga on 27/08/2008 13:39:34 Ok, I know how to scan out random missions in busy hubs. What I want to know is this: If I have a WT in local and I think he is stupid and running a mission, how do I scan for his ship? How do I find the WTÆs ship? TY.
edit: maybe they are not doing a mission but are in a safe spot.

Unless they are silly enough to not rename there ship from player name's ship then its a case of knowing what there in and hoping its the only one of that ship in space or you will be scanning alot to find that specific player.

I was afraid of this. So there is no other way to find them other then to be lucky?

If you're scanning, I assume you're flying a covops. If you suspect they run missions there, camp out a hundred km or so from the station with the best agents in that system (or at least, the most likely to be used by your WTs) and exercise patience. Don't smack, don't answer convos, don't do nothin'. Once they think you're AFK cloaking to annoy them, they'll go back to business as usual and you'll see them coming and going.
Meanwhile, since your ship isn't called Zhenga's Cheetah (right?), they won't know it's you just by seeing you on d-scan when you occasionally warp around to refresh the probes you're scanning with as they expire and check out the hits you're getting to see if you've caught your target(s).
Luck is a big part of it, given that it's highsec and crowded (judging by what you've said, assuming it's highsec), but you can at least find out exactly what they're flying and what their ship's name is by staking out their agent's station.

Edited by: Nexa Necis on 28/08/2008 00:10:24 You could also try the gang invite trick. It works quite a bit. A good way to do it is to convo the person then close the convo mid-conversation, then when he expects you to reconvo him, you gang invite instead and he will likely be quick to accept.
As others said, your best bet would be to cloak in front of the station and get his ship type and name and general direction.
Find him on the regular ship scanner down to 5-15 degrees, and calculate his distance. Start probing. You can ignore any hits that don't match with his distance from you.
Initiate warp, if you're not aligning in the direction of your target, stop warp and keep probing.

You can also camp the entrance and exit from the system, alot of missions are a jump out from the agent, if you know the area you can make an educated guess as to where he'll be sent and wait there.
Just another matter of patience and luck really -----------------

Check his standings to see what agent he's likely to be using. If it's in a different system, camp there waiting for him to come back through. |

First, find out his ship name and type.
Second, get within 4 AU of his location. To do this you will need the directional scanner and probably a lot of bookmarks. If you have no bookmarks, get a recon probe launcher and fire spooks and fathoms all over the place in order to get a large number of bookmarks.
Third, once you are within 4 AU, switch to a scan probe launcher (not recon) and launch a Quest probe appropriate to his ship's race (e.g. Gravimetric for a Raven). Select scan group "ship" and scan. Warp to the signal.

This is actually really clever and evil and I will use it. Because surely it will soon be declared an exploit.

Better yet, use an out of corp alt in a covops so that the target wont even know that you are aware of them. Unless they are serious about thier counter intel, which they wont be unless they are pretty hardcore pvpers, they will never figure out who your alt is... The moment you enter system you will be enroute to thier mission giving them little time to flee, even if they are watching local like a hawk... (hard to watch local in a mission hub) ç¦ |

why would this even begin to be an exploit? If the person is dumb enough to accept the invite, then they deserve it. if you were walking down the street and a car pulls up and the driver asks you to hop in, what would you do?

Dateline - New York City. A tourist on vacation was mugged and left for dead on the streets today when he mistakenly entered an open car door instead of answering his phone. "I was so confused," said the man, "I thought I was just answering a text message, but instead I found myself sitting in an old rusty ford." Legislators are proposing banning car doors from opening in the future to avoid the confusion.

sadly, CCP is doing all they can to protect their recent influx of WoW-Minded players. Anything to keep them safe will be implemented. Sorry
