i'm trying to get my standings up with one particular corp and they have given me an L2 storyline mission - can i run this in a Hurricane?

You should be able to run level 2 missions in a cruiser. A battlecruiser should have no problems.
If you are concerned about access restrictions on gates, I am not aware of any level 2 missions that have restrictions, but if there are I doubt they would exclude battlecruisers.

hell, a well fitted frigate can run lvl 2s with some risk and a little required skill...

Yeah, you can do L2's in a Cruiser without any trouble. Hell, I have barely any skills developed at all, just all my Learning skills and enough to get into my Stabber and L2's are easy. I'm sure I could handle them in my frigate, for that matter. I suspect L3 and L4 are going to be a lot harder ...

The only missions that I know of which are restricted to frigates/destroyers are a selection of level 1 missions.
Everything else (from memory) works just fine for cruisers/battlecruisers.

Quick answer: Yes you can.
Is it optimal? NO, it isn't.
Most level 2s are designed for runs by well-equipped friagtes/cruisers. As such, your BC would be massive overkill, and may actually do LESS DPS against the mobs, due to the fact that most level 2 missions have a high preponderance of frigates in them, and medium guns are less than optimal against frigates due to speed and tracking. This is ESPECIALLY true of medium artillery, which when it hits can often instapop frigates...when it hits. That's the tricky part, given arty's abysmal tracking. Even medium ACs will have trouble against Angel frigates, say, that love to orbit at 2K.
Using small weap[ons on a Hurricane is not optimal as you wind up losing all the 'Cane's bonuses. Sure, fit drones some will say - problem is, in a good frigate swarm (6-8 frigates) your drones sometimes get primaried while in transit between targets, so you have to micromanage them a bit. Can be done, just not a optimal use of the wetware, if you know what I mean :)
Dunno if you have a slot, if you're going to insist on using that Hurricane in level2s, consider fitting a couple of assault launchers,w itht he rest of your weapons being medium artys/ACsa. Use the assault launchers on the frigates (with good skills you can get 30+K range out of light missiles) - use the missiles on the frigates, your medium weapons on everything else. Then, when you get into level 3s, you can reconfigure.
Just a thought.

My Hurricane does just fine against frigates. Sure, I don't pop frigates quite as quickly in my Hurricane as I do in my Thrasher, but a Thrasher isn't as survivable and doesn't carry drones.

Last I checked, most cruisers are between 4-7 mil.
Battlecruisers cost 30+ mil, not counting fittings.
In a mission like "The Blockade" the "swarms" I talk of can be up to 15 frigates with some destroyers, if you accidentaly shoot the triggers.
Losing a cruiser in that scenario? MUCH less painful than losing a BC. Given the slow rate with which ANY medium weapon will take out a frigate, it's possible for even a BC to get swarmed and popped in a level 2. That's why i recommended he fit a couple of assault launchers, after all.
If you have the skills and have good results, more power to you. If you don't - again, less pain = more gain :)
Again, as I mentioned in the first part of my reply: Can you do it? YES. Is it optimal? NO. It's overkill.

Yes u can use whatever ship (minus caps in hisec) u want on missions but beware the lock times and of course the targeting/tracking speed and everythin inbetween.

The subject was raising standings with a corp, not if a particular ship can handle a mission.
Gates sometimes restrict the ships that can be used in the mission.
If you don't know, well, try it. It will tell you if you can get in or not. You can also click on the gate in your pod to get a list of allowed ships.

I used a hurricane when I was doing lv 2 missions. However I used AC's rather than arties, assult launchers, and had a full compliment of rat spacific drones. As long as your skills are good enough to support it you will be just fine. Sometimes you do run into a frigate swarm that takes a bit to kill but they will barely dent your shields. At least thats the way it went for me.
