Edited by: xdeca on 28/08/2008 02:34:55 I am 0 for 3 out of 3 attempts and wanted to know if it was something I am doing wrong (which I would be willing to bet I am)
Scenario: Worlds Collide
I activate the gate, and warp into their deadspace. Upon arriving, I am literally surrounded by 9 pithi who are anywhere from 4km to 15km, and they kill me f-a-s-t. It reads that I can only activate that gate while in a frigate. Hence, getting a large ship is not possible.
This is not so much a question about this particular mission as it is a discussion on the specific situation.
Can I control where I warp into that deadspace?
How would others handle this situation?
Should I be able to win this solo?
Should a Kestral be able to take on 9 pithi frigates if each time it warps into the deadspace it is literally ontop of them each time?

Woah hey there big picture. Don't try to kill them, just get to the next gate. At least that's how the Angel one worked iirc.

Yeah, those are passive. Your shield booster, however, is off. Also, switch to active hardeners, they're better. What have you got in your low slots as well?

Use Bloodclaw missiles, not your mix and if you have no fitting left, just put some propulsion upgrades in the lows, a pair of overdrives should get you fast enough to the other gate or at a more comfortable distance.

Do you mean using an afterburner?
On my 2nd attempt, I did outfit the kestrel with a 1MN Afterburner and died before it was able to get me anywhere near the next jumpgate or far enough from them where it was not 9 hitting me simultaneously. "In times of War, the Devil makes more room in hell." |

I mean Overdrive Injectors in the low slots, keeps your tank intact. I do guess you are already using a thermal and kinetic resistance amplifier, so the only thing you could increase your tank would be a named or T2 shield booster. With the kinetic damage from bloodclaws you should be able to two-volley a pithi.

This is one of those situations where you need another person along.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you're brand new. Worlds Collide is the hardest lvl 1 mission you can get, and until you can get some decent missile/shield/propulsion/engineering/mechanic/navigation/pretty-much-everything skills, it's going to remain hard...

Edited by: Cygnus Zhada on 28/08/2008 03:19:40 Overdrives aren't going to be any good, adding a few % of speed isn't going to magically save him from losing his ship.
OP: I'm no missionrunner but if I remember correctly that was the mission where you shouldn't touch anything and just rush to the gate. Apart from that, your kestrel has a range advantage, and itneeds it too. So either try to warp in at range if you actually want to attack something (might not be needed in this mission) OR fit an afterburner to get some distance the second you warp in. You'll find that at some range the rats hit you for a lot less or actually not at all. So warp in, turn away from the rats, start hauling a$$ and THEN have a look about what to shoot.
Apart from that, don't put active hardeners on frigates, you can't keep em running.

Correct in this mission, i do not have to kill the pirates, but only make it to another gate to rescue some people in another sector. However, the issue is that upon warping into this first sector, I get hammered before i can even make it to the 2nd gate or far enough away from the pirates so that it is not a 1 verse 9. In one attempt I did use afterburner and got torched before I even got far at all. "In times of War, the Devil makes more room in hell." |

In that case go for a passive shield tank, there's 4 ways of tanking.
1) no tank whatsoever, or a bad one 2) active shield tank, uses a shieldbooster and if possible shield boost amp, coupled with resists. uses power diagnostics in low 3) passive hitpoint tank, slap on shield extenders like mad, resists and a bunch of power diagnostics to up the HP even more 4) passive regen tank, works through some game mechanic. in short; lots of shield HP, coupled with shield power relays. the passive regen of your shield will be massive, but only really works for certain types of ships.
in this case, all you need it a crapload of HP, you're not there to fight a lot. Take option 3; fit an AB because it's useful here, smedium shield extender and add appropriate resists. fill lows with power diagnostics.
P.S. you really should ask questions in the newbie area, they get answered more and they don't end up lost between the normal posts.

Is there a place in the logs in which the type of attack the pirate used (something to read over after the fight) in order to be better prepared next time?

I thought this was the case, that is the 2nd room, you killed the origional 3 rats in there. That was your mistake.
The second you kill those 3 rats your screwed. You can kill the overseer but not the destroyers. As soon as you do all hell breaks lose. Go to the other gate next time you try it (you get cartel or guristas as options after you warp to the mission start area). When in the 2nd room go straight for the gate to the 3rd room, dont try to engage the rats in the second room at all. You will find the 3rd room very easy. I have had this one a few times and its easy as long as you dont turn the second room into a feeding frenzy :)

Edited by: Venkul Mul on 28/08/2008 06:29:33 1) remove that image and make it a link, you are breaking the forum;
2) use a Merlin, less missile launcher but more shield and mid slots;
3) if you are running level 1 missions shield extenders are better than hardener/resists, a small shield extender without skills give you +188 hp, a shield resist 32,5% extra resist, so your 2 shield resist give you the equivalent of 131 HP (32,5% of 391 shield of the kestrel), while 2 small shield extenders give you 376 hp;
4) as soon as you pass the gate you should start moving away from the enemy. In missions range is almost always your best friend.
Edit:
5) the highest damage bonus for the Kestrel is Kinetic, and it work well on guristas too. Use kinetic missiles.

I lost a ship early in my eve life to this mission too. Got frustrated and cancelled the mission thinking "What the hell, its way too hard"
What you want to do it not fight in the middle rooms on WC L1, esp if you are new. Just burn to the 2nd gate. A shield booster and an afterburner should get you there just fine. Once you have some skills and the ability to fit a ship better you can try and clear out those middle rooms. ~~~ Common sense will not accomplish great things. Simply become insane and desperate |

On my second day in EVE I got WC and lost all ships I could afford there before I actually read the mission.
In the second room, as soon as you get there, ignore everything, just rush to the next gate and warp through. An AB helps. That's the whole solution. Problem is, if you've gotten all the spawns in a room, they will kill you before you manage to get to the next gate. You should either go to the other room or wait until the room despawns.

WC Lvl 1 is a good test to see if you can solo the whole mission without having to warp out.
Of course, you could just run through, but its more fun to actually kill them.
If you did want to kill them and need some help doing it, you could take a look at the helpmymission channel. Theres a lot of experienced people in there who are happy to help people out if they keep getting killed on missions.
There's more info in my Bio, so please feel free to take a look

I remember doing this way back when I first started missioning. One faction was angels and I don't remember off the top of my head what the other was. I would fit a Rifter with an AB and burn to the gate to the Angel complex. Once I warped in I would immediately head for the gate to the next complex with the afterbuner lit. Do not attack anything, just get to the gate and warp to the next area.
When I entered the final area I would orbit the mission target (diabled ship) at about 10K and kill any rats that targeted me. Once they were dead, head for the hostages, pick them up and warp out.
Worked like a charm. Sorry I don't remember exactly what kind of tank I put on my Rifter, but it wasn't much since I didn't have a lot of skills then.

If I'm running a kessie for a mission I'll usea fit like this:
[Kestrel, Kessie 1] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
1MN Afterburner II Small Shield Extender II Small Shield Extender II
'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Thorn Rocket 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Thorn Rocket 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Thorn Rocket 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Thorn Rocket
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
------------------- Arbalests aren't the cheapest though -- regular Rocket Launcher 1's or Makluth's work just fine too. With my skills I have 1100 shield HP, and do 204 dmg per volley with about a 2 second firing time..... Frigates go pop faster than I can target them. I was running 3/10 plexes a week ago with 2 friends in assault frigs and getting more kills than they were.
Downside is that the rockets only have about a 9km range, but with the AB pushing me to 642 m/s I'm a lot faster than any frig in a mission anyway, so that's not really an issue, and if I need to jet out a few cliks to allow some shield recharge, it's easy to do.

No it isn't. It was easy the first time I ever did it on the Gallente side. I used either an incursus or a tristan with an AB and just sped right through it to the end ignoring all things, taking the left gate (less dps side).
You haven't seen a hard mission til you do In the Shadow of War. CCP in all its wierd wisdom gives newbs this mission (gave it to me 5 missions after my 10 arc was done) that has a comm officer cruiser firing heavy missiles at your frigate every 2-3 seconds up to 60-70km distance.
Ignore what WC1 tells you. It can accept destroyers as well. Join channel: "Eve University" or read here |

This mission can be done with a Condor, and it's a lot faster than a Kestrel with an Afterburner fitted. Put a couple of rocket launchers on it, get to the last pocket as fast as possible and then only shoot at the ships that target you.
Afterburner and Shield Extender in the mids should be enough. But in your situation, you might be screwed.
If you continue to try and lose ships, a Condor is a tenth the cost of a Kestrel anyway.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.
