Secondly, I'm not convinced that the console segment will buy into the whole "wow, there a real life players behind these [insert systems]? What, I'm on a single shard with PC MMORPG players? Wauw! I'll have to go to fanfest!" concept - when buying a console FPS. I do applaud the experiment tho, and think it's brave ( or judging by the state of the CCP hivemind in 2011 maybe just cocky and "we can do no wrong" motivated ) that CCP is trying it. I hope it works out. I don't have a PS3 tho and will not play unless someone throws one at me. I wonder tho, will CCP have to throw a new version out each console cycle? Backwards compatability isn't high on Sony or Microsofts list these days. And will people buy what is in essence the same game, with upgraded graphics, again, when they already own a copy? Won't they feel entitled to not having to pay for it again?

It looks pretty cool. The thing I am most excited about it is I have lots of friends and family who enjoy a good shooter, but find EVE too complicated and slow for their tastes. Dust may help get them to play in the same pool as me, even if they stick to the shallow end. So I know personally I will be evangelizing this game quite a bit... particularly if they own a PS3 already (F2P is a easy sell). As for it eventually being on the PC... I doubt it will be in the near future. Given Sonys involvement there is likely at least a one, if not two exclusivity contract in place. With all the marketing in place for this game Sony stands to make or lose a fair size of change in Dust. Honestly I think Sony is interested in CCP mostly because they want a piece of that yummy MMO PIE, but every attempt they make at fighting wow usually fails spectacularly. So why not bet on a new horse that going to be racing against WoW/SwTOR? Makes sense to me. Even still, I really hope DUST does very well and is a good game. If its a solid game and does well, we can hope to see similar multi-faced gaming experiences in the future. If it flops, it may be a while before we see true innovation like this attempted by any large studio. So for the future of gaming in general, I'm onboard the dust train.
