Well to be honest if U come to the conclusion that this is the only way to make the game work as intended (big fleet fights are promoted in EVE) then that's exactly what U shuld be doing!
to give U an example from my point of view, I work in an architects office, and we are planning a huuuuge project, this project is soo big that it would be impossible to print out the size of plans needed on our old plotters, so we had to buy a new one that was able to print the size needed. It was necessary to invest into better/bigger hardware to be able to accomplish the job we had advertized and the client had agreed to ... I this scenario, U'r statement says that we shuld have not bought a new plotter to be able to print the plans but we shuld have just delivered plans up to the size our old hardware was capable of, meaning that the client would have gotten plans with only a fraction of the project on them.
The morale of the story is, that if U decide to take a behemoth of project, wich EVE certainly is, U need to back up the Idea and the advertized service with the correct hardware, otherwise the fail is inevitable, and the customer certainly is not to be told, "hey listen we said we would be able to do this, but we have noticed now that our equipment is not performant enough, but we are not going to invest into more/bigger/better hardware, U will be only getting half the service U signed up with"
Now while I get that this is "only a game" it also is a business, and business shuld be made on a serious base. In U'r situation U can really be lucky that there isn't a company around promoting a similar product than U'rs as U could be certain that if that where the case, customers would certainly stick to the company backing up their word/service in the best way. And I really don't think U would have the luxury in saying things as in the above quote!
As last word, yes we do expect that U make a dedicated node for every single system in EVE if that is the only way U see to provide the service U advertize! Otherwise I can only say that U are advertizing a ...... (insert old shabby car name here) for a brand new Lamborgini/Ferrari. - And that is not conducting serious business !
That's what I have to say that comment.
And what if the customer, after several revisions, ended up with a plan bigger than could be printed out by any plotter available on the market?
Remember, this game has become something much larger than originally intended, and we've been through a couple generations of technology and coding improvements. They've been using tricks to keep up with demand, such as RamSan (was Eve the first user of the technology? I got the impression it was from the press release by the manufacturer a while back) and handing more off to the client to work on.
I know they don't have a node for every system-- but even that wouldn't solve fleet battle issues, because fleets would grow till they exceeded the capacity of nodes. It's happened before, even when systems are given their own nodes in anticipation for battle. In other words, an entire node can't handle what the players throw at them when sufficiently determined. |
