Hello, I'm a total noob when it comes to PVP!
I flew into Jita the other day to one of the Caldari Navy stations and there were a lot of ships right outside the station that tried to warp scramble me. I docked, did my business and undocked and again they tried to warp scramble me, but I escaped. My question is, what do they do if I am warp scrambled? I don't understand their MO. Surely, couldn't I just turn around, wait a few seconds and re-dock and then try again? Jita is high-sec isn't it, so if they fired at me, wouldn't they get attacked by CONCORD? Or do they suicide to make their point? I guess, I'm confused.
Even if I couldn't dock for some reason (not sure why), couldn't I just fly off in a direction until out of range and then warp off? (Assuming they didn't follow me). |

warp scrambling is an act of aggression. so sentries and concord should take care of that.
the only reason for that (besides you carrying something worth the risk) I can think of is to lower their sec status. It doesn't make much sense but I've heard some people want to do that. When that is the case they are in noob frigates (free) |

If you're not at war with them, as soon as they warp scramble Concord should get them.
That said, it's an act of aggression, so they're trying to suicide-gank you. They won't stop at scrambling, they'll web you too, bump you, and blow you up. To take your loot.
If you're at war with them, they can do all that without Concord interference.
EDIT: Are you sure they were warp-scrambling you? Sometimes the warp scramble message is a bug; it says "you" but instead of being sent to one player it just gets broadcasted to the entire damn area. You might have seen the messages of two people who were at war with each other, cause of a bug.
Did they target you first? Did the overview turn yellow brackets around them? Did your ship make targetting sounds and try to target them back? |

You get a message any time anybody warp scrambles anyone in your sight. One trick that people used to do was to jettison some cargo and re-name the cargo container "you". Then they'd warp scramble it and everyone would get a message like "Joe Starbreaker has started trying to warp scramble you." I think the idea was to trick you into shooting back. It has been deemed an exploit, I'm sure. |

Edited by: Jack Slap on 01/09/2008 22:26:15 I'm not at war or in the militia and I'm still in my newbie NPC so it sounds like it's either suicide gankers or I'm just getting caught up in a war. I definitely got the message that two people were trying to warp scramble me on the way in and their names in the overview started to get a yellow background (?) I think the targeting process also kicked in but I have a very long target time in the industrial I was in so it never locked. Thanks for the help, it sounds like so long as I'm tanked enough, it shouldn't be too much of a problem... |

1) remove your esc | General Settings | Auto Target back - 1 Target 2) they are hoping that you will fire at them if you do that they then can kill you with no concord 3) they may also be targeting a can called "you" so you get a confusing message on teh screen

Is there MAYBE a can with a label called "YOU" in the area ?
They are targeting you (as in, you, the pilot) then warp-scrambling "YOU" (the can with that name, can belonging to them), in the hopes you (the pilot) will mistakenly shoot back thinking the warp scrambling message (xxx has started warp scrambling YOU) refers to you, not the can.

If these players had really started to actually warp scramble you, their backgrounds would have flashed red. A yellow background (in the default settings) is a sign that the player ahs a negative security status, which is a definite sign he's been blowing up players that he was not legally allowed to. Yellow blinking brackets around the player's icon means that they have a target lock on you. These two latter cases are fairly important in their distinction - though the point is, if a player aggresses you (and warp scrambling counts as aggression) their entire background will start to flash red, so it should be clear enough.
Additionally, if they do warp scramble you (illegally), they will get a Global Criminal Countdown for 15 minutes, during which time CONCORD will destroy them any time they're undocked (and not in their pod). If you undocked a few minutes later and saw them still sitting outside, they definitely did not actually warp scramble you else they'd be destroyed by CONCORD.
Chances are they were waiting for a hauler that was worth suicide-ganking to go by and destroy it to take its loot (at the price of their ship). In the meantime they felt like playing with you and seeing if they could get anyone to destroy themselves by tricking them into shooting 'back'. Incidentally you will likely see less people doing this in future as the patch that is currently being deployed makes it a lot harder to pull off this sort of suicide ganking. |
