other than some minor issues of placement, my Overview works fine. Didn't lose anything.

My best guess is their testing model does a poor job mimicking the live environment. You're going to have things like stale cache folders and unique positioning choices.
Speaking of which, does anyone know how to get the Default overview tab back? :)

Not true..or at least not neccessary. I always launch eve from the installer and I haven't lost my settings in a long time. In fact the only time I ever lost them was when everyone did presumably because CCP changed the data structures. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Create a custom tab and call it default
The only other way is to have no other custom tabs. _______________

Sorry, just came to mind when I read your post.
It truly is... i remember downloading {a certain game that was 80mb in size} on a modem, that took 2 nights of alarm clock every 2 hours to check if it was still going :)

I remember my first hard drive. ST225. I don't think it was ever more than half full. 10MB. Sheesh. I write programs that occupy more memory than that these days -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Same here, except the "random places" bit — they were all neatly stacked on top of eachother in a biiiig pile at the centre of my screen.

If this has been happening fo so long, why do you continue to delude yourselves by thinking it's not desired behavior? Is there a statement from CCP telling us that this is all one big bug and that our settings should be persisted?

1. Launch Eve normally 2. Download patch 3. Install Patch 4. When the Patch has finished installing and it asks you if you want to launch Eve-Online, you close the window 5. Repeat Step 1
Now your settings are not nuked
Which didn't work this time. That's my standard way of handling patches. Never start the client off of the patcher, because the client is started without any parameters that you might have added to your standard EVE link.
I also always save my settings folder before patching. Restoring it didn't make a difference this time, thought. All windows were heavily misplaced, which is really annoying. -- EVEWalletAware - an offline wallet manager |

Way before my time, but I recently worked as a sysadmin for a CS department at a university, and one of the older professors gave me some blank punch-cards he had laying around, with the university watermark on them. I felt like I was being given a relic from a different age. I use them for bookmarks, now.
As to the topic here, yeah, it's annoying to set up overview yet again. I wish there was a nice EXPORT OVERVIEW button that would spit out an XML file or something, but... it doesn't take too long to set up, and I've just accepted it as a fact of life now. That XML thing would be cool, though, it would allow FC's to hand out XML files so that everyone could see the same things. I still get caught with like "OK EVERYONE LOAD UP YOUR ASSAULT FRIGS ONLY OVERVIEW!" and I'm scrambling to set it up.

It wouldn't take a great deal for CCP to have a backup and restore function for the settings in the login screen of the client, maybe even and automatic backup pre-patch download and restore when patched and launched again. I did it manually with batch files and I have not got a clue what essential files are needed so I backed up everything.
Having said that, I did have a problem with the patcher when it suddenly decided that res.stuff didn't exist any more so it couldn't patch it but I have two clients installed in different locations so that helped. Funny that it was working fine when I launched Eve so the file had to exist to launch it before the patch.
Closed the patcher and launched from the desktop icon (I learned that trick over two years ago) and my settings were fine.

I hope you're not a programmer. Unfortunately with an attitude like that I suspect that you are.
If you let users specify their preferences then you should do everything in your power to honour those preferences for ever more. Otherwise - why bother in the first place?
If more software developers took pride in the software they produced the computing world would be a far better and safer place. I'm a software developer and I urge everyone not to accept second best from my profession. You wouldn't accept it from an architect. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Never had an issue with this, i always do it.
Eve does appear to effect others by doing this tho, the client is very odd come patch time.
