Edited by: Thea Arsoniztik on 03/09/2008 17:42:12 I started playing EVE 2 years ago with a bunch of people at the office from work. We were ALL brand new to the game and we started a corp together. Two months later, every single one of those people quit because they were frustrated by skill training and went back to WoW. Me, on the other hand stuck with the game and persevered through all of the hardships, and now here I am telling everybody at work how much fun they are missing.
Once they left the game, I found a REAL corp with experienced players that were more than happy to teach me PVP, even though I was only capable of flying Caracals at the time when they were all capital/command ship/hac pilots.
For now, spend time bonding with your T1 ships and getting to know how to use them effectively while you train for the T2 variants of what you want to fly. This way, once you get trained up, you will be that much more efficient with your shiny new ships. That's my $0.02.
If you want any advice or help, send me a convo or eve mail. I'd be happy to help you.

Originally by: Celestial Divinity I sometimes get real upset and say stuff I don't mean.
The first I Quit post was legitimate but of course I meant it for about 1 hour.
The BOUNTY post paid for my First Battlecruiser
I made a nice 48 Million isk with that,
I do Not like the word scam though, I like to think of it as a cool idea.
I think I need to reevaluate what my goals are in eve.
Maybe I should focus on bettering my character SP and ISK wise before even bothering to pvp.
I need to also find people to gang up with which has been tough.
I now know solo it just can't cut it.
I am as usual not going to quit , but just need some time to cool down.
I think you just learned one of EVE's most important lessons.
Solo PvP is not really about SP however, it's more a game of rock, paper, scissors where SP can skew the result. A 100 million SP character flying a specific fit for a specific job will lose to the 4 million SP player fit to counter it. The badger was tanked and there's little you could do about that one. In EVE you have to accept that with the best planning you aren't guaranteed to get what you're after.
Had you been in a gank-fit Thorax you'd have likely found that the encounter would have been more in your favour.
EVE is a game where the bigger fish eat the smaller fish. It's also true however that you're not a small fish forever and the longer you play, the less SP will matter to you. Sure in the early days it seems that everyone else is better than you but you'll have to take it on faith that a few months down the road this is simply not the case.
PvP in eve is group based, though some will dispute this all the strongest ships are specialised such that they contribute 1 job to a team. Sure you can change this to varying degrees of success with fittings and smarts but on the whole it's a fundamental truth. Next time you want to teach a canflipper a lesson, bring a friend or two until you're conident you can do it yourself. Friends > SP.
Use what you do have, rather than worrying about what you don't have.

I killed an 11 month old player with a 3 days old char.
All you need is experience and some isk.
You want something for your "hard work"? That keep on training! Sometimes, EVE is more work than a game.

Is it only me that think it's lame that ppl create an alt and then makes a emo-quit thread about that they can't compeete with older players?
Leave the game already...

Hmm? I think you are completely mistaken. Especially in Eve it is VERY easy to become on par wit the vets.
Or do you think the vets have better skills than, lets say frig 5? Do they have frig 6, 7, 8?
No! They have exactly the same level! And you can get it rather quickly. The thing is, that the vets can ALSO fly all the other races frigs. But so what? They can fly, same as you, only one ship at a time.
Same with guns. Easy to get small t2 guns. And it doesn't matter if the 'big guys' have invested 30 mil sp in capital ships then. They still can only reach level 5 with guns. Same as you!
So in the end it is just personal skill. But to get better there it needs practise. Surely you do not want to say that personal skill shouldn't matter, right? That every moron should be able to do the same thing as a very skilled person?
I think especially Eve is good at giving young players a chance against the old boys.

Mods and SP make a huge difference and so does experience. Even with outstanding experience, if you lack the mods you're f'ed and vice versa. It's a combination of both. Lacking of one too much and you're gonna be high-tailing it to the station in a pod.
If this weren't the case, I seriously doubt many PvP corps would put SP limits on their entry recruits. Experience and training in PvP tactics is easy to build; SP is not and can take months to be competent.
I always thought there should be a reduction in training based on the SP you have.

but that's the same in ANY game, no? a level 1-10 in any game can rarely even fart at a level 50-80 character and make a difference, either due to the power differential between their skills and/or the equipment the higher level character has. at least in EVE there's more allowance made for the experience of the player at the keyboard.

Gotta try to be nice here....
If you think this game is not noob friendly....then you should have joined it five years ago.
In the last five years, CCP has gone above and beyound to make this game more noob friendly. Noobs have more help from the game now then any of us 'old timers' ever got.
You start off with 1 million skill points...I did'nt You get all kinds of missions to build up isk and buy new skills....I did'nt You get training on how to play the game from the game...I did'nt You get the benifit of THOUSANDS of experienced players to help guide you along....I did'nt You get massive protection from NPC's Concord, sentry guns...I did'nt. You get a market, where you can buy just about anything....I did'nt
And yet, in just a matter of months, I will think twice about engageing you in my tech II Hyperion. Knowing that you can still do massive damage to my mission boat.
Yes I think your wrong, by saying this game is not newbie friendly....I think its one of the best games one can play, and get all kinds of newbie help...from the game, the players, and CCP. Wait a few weeks before you leave. Join a med sized corp, in your time zone, learn from some of the six month players how to play...and your get hooked in no time.
Damn you CCP! Why did you have to make such a good game?? Yes you drew me back AGAIN! Oh well wheres the Omber? |

It does not work that way. After about 8-12 months you will be on par pretty much with anyone for a given ship. You simply will not have the diveristy in game play as others with a lot of sp spread over several different ships, industry, trading, etc.
High SP = diversity not power on a single person basis
Read and re-evaluate your opinion: http://www.massively.com/2008/05/06/eve-evolved-eves-skill-system-demystified-part-2/
If it's still the same then good luck. I will agree some on the skill training times are a bit whacked, but over all the whole scheme is not bad to me.
