Originally by: Gojyu Although I'm going to get reamed for it, CCP, while not up there with ea or microsoft, are pretty shady for mmo developers: - Allow staff members to cheat, with no public repercussions - Actually going out of the way to ban whistle blowers - And the main thing, are active rl money traders. This puts them in such glorious company as ige, and any other gold farming buisness
They do make a good game though.
Do you honestly expect other MMO companies havent had similar instances? The only reason you know about it is because the "whistle blower" hacked the database, blackmailed CCP, and then decided to rat them out. As for the last point? huh?
Actually, It's been a few years, so I can't recall the details, but a wow gm was caught cheating at one point. The guy was fired. As for the last point, ccp seem perfectly fine with real money trade, as long as a cut goes into your pockets. Have you ever noticed how ccp so valiantly try to fight against people selling isk for cash while subtlely saying "here, use our system for buying isk for cash, it's much safer". Given the huge mark up on gtc's compared to a credit card subscription. It'd be interesting to see how much money ccp actually make a year from real money trade
In my company, there's one developper who made quite a few critical programs, and the way he coded was..non standard. Then, over the years, he corrected the bugs with so many fixes over fixes over fixes, that another developper would need litteraly years to know the code backward and forward. The programs work, more or less, but you can guess firing the original developper, even if he doesn't do his job all that well, wouldn't exactly be a good idea. And, of course, he's digging his heels any way he can where sharing knownledge is concerned.
Now about T20, what he did was wrong, sure, but maybe there's reasons why firing him would be worse than keeping him? With a code the size of Eve's, surely the developpers have specialized in specific areas. |
