Last night spent a good 3-4 hours chatting to a bloke from leeds, and we have come to an agreement.
On Sunday/Monday i shall be swapping this: My Car
For this: His Car

I cannot frikin' wait!!!
And best of all, its not costing me any money atall, he needs to get rid asap as hes just had his 3rd kid, and the back seats will hold maybe a small grape each, so he needs a "family car".
Only thing wrong with his car is it needs new door handles, and thats it

Yeah, you'll be getting hot merchandise, he'll have a legit vehicle with title.
Get the current plates before the swap, and run the info on the net or through the local police department. Not sure how it works where you live, but in the States, you'll get arrested and jail time for buying stolen goods, just as well as the original thief ... who is rarely caught.

I dont know quite how the normal proceadure goes in the UK, never had to bother. I highly doubt it is stolen, theyve owned it for 14 months, so im sure they'd get their asses handed to em by now.
I suppose i could ask the local police to run a check on the car, see its got any records with em. I actually havent got it yet, so its not like im already in shit.
Thanks for being so concerned though

I wouldn't drive either of those.
Aaron, are you a sensible driver? Do you drive safely? If I was to stereotype the drivers of those cars, I would risk offending your driving skills - I hope I am wrong.
If/when I'm rich and famous, I'll have a few really nice 'fast' cars, but my intention is still to drive safely. Then I'll take them to a track somewhere or an autobahn thingy to open them up a bit :-)

Well i might slightly fit the bill of the impreza but im not that bad really. I do drive my cars fast, dont see the point of a fast car and driving slow (+i enjoy it). However I do drive within my limits, and if its busy or the conditions are bad ill drive accordingly, ive had a few knocks* and tbh its made me a better driver by showing me im not invincible.
*all knocks were purley by myself and involved no other cars, just a kerb, a dry stone wall and a grass verge **

I suppose that's not toooo bad - just don't do anything wreckless or risk other people - if you wanna do something that can only hurt yourself, that's not as bad as doing something that will endanger other people.

I dont particulary plan on rolling my car, so i dont need one thanks.
The extra chasis stiffness you get from the cage doesnt really outweight the PITA it becomes when u use it daily, probs only really worth it if you want to track your car alot.
And stop hatin' on the impreza , theyre very good cars. Itll seat 5 ppl, can do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, sit at 140mph on the motorway all day, and they will take all sorts of abuse and still run fine, as long as you just change the oil etc. And older ones like mine can be had for 3k GBP, which is alot of car for that kinda money.

I miss Leeds... good to see you got a good deal. I had to cut the ties on my '02 Ford Focus a couple weeks ago (blew an engine), but got an '04 Trailblazer out of the dealer at reduced cost. Gotta love it when dealership mechanics make that rare mistake... ---

Have the car HPI checked before you even touch it. Also contact the DVLA to double check the car isn't stolen recovered or has been involved in an accident and cross reference this with the HPI results.
Check the bulkhead, front panel, spare wheel well, rear quarters under the boot carpet and make sure all the car's original seam sealer and welding is in place, there's no internal primer or paint overspray, the colors match and that there's no rust showing through. Take a look under the car to make sure the wishbones are in good shape and it's hasn't been bounced across any curbs, the state of the suspension and running gear is a good idea to how the car has beenn driven. You can usually tell the basic setup of car's suspension is good by checking for adverse tyre wear. (the RX-7 has aftermarket wheels, ask him where the original ones are, if he has them and if you can see them if he does, make sure they aren't heavily kerb damage)
Also, the front headlights are aftermarket ones, not stock Mazda ones, as are the front fog/driving lights and front bumper. Check these have been installed properly, and that the headlight allignment, or "kick" is correct for a RHD CAR (the headlights should be aimed toward the offside of the car, toward the pavement not the center of the road, commonly people who import aftermarket lights don't realise this and they fail their MOT because of it). Aftermarket headlights are generally a good sign that the car has had a front end prang and has been modified from standard to hide the fact and avoid using expensive dealership parts so that people don't have to claim on insurance, hence the damage to the car is never reported with the DVLA.
Also, the RX7 runs on a high torque rotary motor. Make sure he's not trying to get rid of the car because it's due a rotor oil and chamber seal change. This can be very expensive as it means a full engine stripdown to replace the seals around the three rotors and the crankshaft that they drive. Also check the rear diff, gearbox and prop shaft are all in good order. If the engine is modified in any way, and the previous owner has left stock parts in the running gear, these will be the first to fail. Check for a leaky diff, leaky gearbox, and oil passing around the seals or on the two prop shaft knuckles. Also check for cluch slip, if it's been driven hard it might need a new plate, or plates depending on what clutch is fitted.
Last but not least, a couple of things. Check the car's history to make sure it's not a grey import. The square plate on the front along with the square mounting point behind it suggests the car is. If so, your insurance will be a lot higher most places to try to go. Also check that he's not a dealer trying to sell the car privately, which it sounds to me like he might be if it's a grey import and he can't shift it off his forecourt. A couple of things say this to me :
He has an R-33 GTS-T on his driveway behind the RX7 in the shot (the red thing with it's rear end visible), there's also another silver 4 door saloon on his drive. If he wants a family car, why doesn't he just use one of those? The skyline series has four seats, lots of room and no issues with getting kids in one (I know from personal experience).
Something seems fishy there to me. You're standing to lose what appears to be a perfectly good UK spec WRX for no real reason. If I were you, and I was looking to get an RX7 or something similar, I'd speak to a decent jap car importer and dealer directly, and sort one out that way.
The import market can be a very dodgy place. I've owned several good imports myself and the horror stories I've heard from some people are terrible. Like, losing thousands of pounds because they didn't realise what they were getting terrible.
I'd be very careful if I were you unless you know this person really well and where he lives as you have little to no comback if things go balls up.

That silver car in the background is actually his neighbors, u cant see it from the picures angle, but it is. The skyline is his car, and trying to squeeze 3 kids into the back of a GTsT isnt fun, especially since 1 is a newborn. Also kinda nice for him and his wife to have their own cars.
Im not too worried about him not looking after it, those aftermarket headlights are genuine ReAmemina ones, and they retail for 800+ GBP
I got to take it out for a drive, and the engine is perfectly fine, its actually really tourqy once u get going, it has feck all power setting off at low revs, but thats just how rotarys are, went mental once it got into high revs though .
Its got full a full cat1 alarm, all the body pannels match up perfectly etc, but ofcourse when i go back to collect it a second time, ill give it a proper going over again to be safe.
The only issue with it is the door handles are broke, so ill need to replace them, otherwise shes in good shape.
Not worried about insurance, i actually want jap inport cars, as they usually are not rusting to bits on are shite roads. My car atm is a 1994 WRX jap import too, but 4wd isnt always fun, and i hardly need a family/semi-semsible car, im 20 and have no wife/kids/gf/dog etc.
Any idea how to get it hpi checked? im gona ring the DVLA as i know how to contact them. I know a local cop, so i was gona see if he cud see if theres anything out for the car.
Thanks for the info though, its always nice to read another opinion.

Yeah its an rx7, and tbh id much rather rebuild one of them then my impreza flat 4 engine. I duno why everyones scared of ****le engines, ive been reading up on them, theyre very simple on the inside.
Normal engines have like 30 different types of moving parts, a ****le engine has 3

I think alot of shit is spread about the rx7 over the internet etc by people who have no real clue about them. You get all sorts of horror stories about needing rebuilds every 30-60k, and they go bang all the time etc, but i think alot is due to ppl just not looking after them.
My scooby, id change the oil + oil filter every 3000miles, do a coolant change once a year, and its a happy bunny.
The rx7, u need to change the oil minimum of every 3000miles, i plan to do it every 1000miles or less. And they do use alot of oil, u need to check atleast 1-2 times a week and top it up, because if it reads low on the dipstick, you're too late the damage is already done.
They also can overheat if you aint careful, and if it does overheat it can lead to warped rotor housings which = rebuild. From what ive read the biggest cause for rebuild is coolant seals going because ppl will thrash them from cold, then not let them cool down. The second is rotor tip wear, but thats only after 60-80k miles, but can be drastically less if you experience any sort of detonations from lean running.
The key really is to just look after them, treat em well and theyll last ages, and im not worried about oil, because the best thing for em is boggo standard mineral oil, which is like 10 quid for a huge drum

RX-7's are great cars, so long as you don't mind crappy gas mileage (in comparison) and topping up the oil frequently.
I recommend you don't drive it full throttle all the time, or it will die a lot faster than a normal engine. I'm not just passing on rumours as my brother has gone through 2 engines because of his lead foot. His meachanic loves him:)
Great cars, though. I'd love to own one. They have a ton of power from that wee little barrel and they handle beautifully.

Yeah shade, i did take everyones advise and spent about 3-4 hours picking mine out from the dealer, but ive found dealers will screw you over price wise, id rather buy privatly and get what i want for much less!
And i was aiming for a skyline, but i couldnt really afford to buy one, and i definatly couldnt afford to repair it breaks, parts for them are crazy expensive
But who cares, power to weight ratio rx7>skyline

Got the car last night, and omg is it way faster then the impreza once its got going over 40mph This thing really flys, and since its wet it just loves to kick out on round abouts, so much fun
Unfortunatly the night ended with me waiting 2.5hours for thr RAC recovery, and then another 90 minutes on the back of a flat bed lorry home, so didnt get in til 4:45am
Split radiator hose meant i got stuck miles from where i live, but on the plus side this looks like its the only thing that went wrong, and its like 5 quid in parts to fix \o/

Its a very fast car I am having problems keeping it from overheating and blowing all the rad pipes atm. Ive sussed part of the problem to be very old shite/damaged rubber pipes, so tomorrow morning they are getting replaced.
Going to fill the system up with a proper mix of water/coolant to try and raise the boiling point, and itll be getting a new race spec double core rad in the very near future.
I seem to have lucked out on this one, i belive its a type RA spec, so i get 2 oil coolers \o/ Unfortunatly the intercooler on this is a joke, its the size of a shoebox and is sat behind the rad, so its doing **** all for intake temps
But i love it, just needs some tlc. Oh and in the wet it likes to swing its arse about more then a pole dancer in wildacts stripclub

4 pot, rocker cover ?? WTF
anyways just caught sight of this thread so i might be a little late with the advise but before you start hoofing about in it get it to a specialist and have it compression checked also you mentioned that its overheated a couple of times that is seriously not good for your water seals again get the thing checked out. Do not stick a high pressure cap on it as you will end up splitting your ast and cause more harm than good, definetly get hold of an aftermarket water temp guage as the stock 1 is a piece of shit and wont start moving till your already dangerously hot
I had mine 2 months before i ended up forking out 5.5k for a rebuild and new turbos, that said, and after shelling out another 3k i have a car that will eat 911's for breakfast round a track.
check out the mazda rotary club forums excellent site and plenty helpfull

Always thought it was Hairdressers and Homosexuals that drove Mazdas :p
You know, the same people that think a Porsche Boxter is actually a good car? Har har.
I digress, V8s may not be the fastest top end, but safe to say they'll last a damn sight longer than a small engine doing the same work.
Plus there was a reason the Ford Falcon XB in Mad Max had a stonking great V8 in it...
V8's are bad-ass, and no other engine can pull off the "out of hood" Roots Supercharger and Cherry Bomb Exhausts.
I stay devout to the cars of the 1960s / 1970s, they were made out of real materials, designed to kill the person driving them, had a massive engine that could shake the sidewalk and had more sex appeal than anything at the time.
I'd sell both ********* for a mint condition Hemi 'Cuda. (and a climate controlled garage to keep her in)
They werent fast, they werent aerodynamic, hell.. they barely turned corners. But they looked amazing, had personality everywhere, and have a legacy that lives on to this day.
I just don't get the over-curvacious 4 pot buzz-cars that are stupidly fast, made out of carbon fibre and are tuned to the nuts...
Traction Control, ABS, Low Profile Tyres... all that shit that helps you stay on the bends... Its too sheltered! Too safe!
That much speed potential in a 55kph speed limit too? Thats just frustrating. I like to pimp along, barely doing the speed limit... enjoying the fact that every trip I make, my "carbon footprint" gets big enough to smother Russia's mainland.

Yeah its got no cams, valves, pistons, conrods etc, actually it shares almost nothing witha conventional engine. But my god is she fast The only real downside im seeing atm is they get VERY hot, and mazda didnt design the cooling system very well, so im fixing that these next few weeks.
I personally think the engine doesnt sound like a hoover, its more like an anrgy wasp using a sewing machine
Oh its not a overhelped machine, mines has no traction control, no stability control, its has ABS that doesnt work, (but i dont like ABS so its staying like this) and in the wet its very happy to try and kill you, but i love it <3
Speed limits over here go upto 96kph on normal roads, 112kph on motorways. Mine is regularly taken over that, i dont buy my cars to pootle around in, i like to drive them fast

Oh i get it. See I don't know what car that is...
Now you say it has nothing to do with a normal engine, I can assume its an Rx-7 or something considering all the mazda rotary talk.
Thought it was a Supra at first...
I think I need to get up to date with what all them youngins' be driving.
