Originally by: Tasko Pal There are more technical differences. For example, trade in a very active market may mean that I do numerous trades with dozens or even hundreds of traders (eg, region wide ore buys). It's an interaction with a cloud of other traders. Most of them are one time, I might trade with the other again, but neither of us are going to remember past trades.
Interesting notion... going to work up a list around that notion. "How many repeat transactions have I had with people?" Gimme an hour to make you a list.

It is interesting, from my data, but it appears I have very few repeat customers. Customer(s) - # Transactions 1 - 33 1 - 27 1 - 26 1 - 19 1 - 18 3 - 17 3 - 16 3 - 15 4 - 14 4 - 13 13 - 12 9 - 11 17 - 10 23 - 9 46 - 8 49 - 7 95 - 6 169 - 5 276 - 4 534 - 3 1239 - 2 4684 - 1 Most TransactionsBandErr CB Netsvinet Chemsorly Cilinidd Docteur West Jimovopho Kaival king eduard Leonidas O'Spartan Sereanity Volos Zorman As you can see, most transactions simply happen one time maybe two times at best. Compare the 7000+ 1 - 2 transactions to the other 5800 transactions of varying number ranging fro 3 - 33 transactions and I'd say that as a form of communication economic transactions suck. Big time. Of course this is for me and my activities. Some people have more interactions and even are more specialized than I am (thus encouraging more repeat customers).

Classic poisson distribution shape there. Does seem very shallow. Would be nice to figure a way to get repeat customers, but that would be an incredible amount of work over so many traders. I wonder what sort of business is "deep"? Maybe ship selling in obscure ports?

^^^ Why I still don't trust you though.
PS: I'd put a smiley but then you might think I was joking.
Trust comes in many levels, and I am constantly surprised how much faith and trust people put into people they dont know in any RL context. It is so easy to hide who you "really" are on the interwebz.
Just another tidbit for this little mental vomit from my tired mind. An ex-CEO once asked me just before he was about to give me director roles, in a industrial corp that had at least eleventy billion or so in profits monthly, "Tree, what is your price?, how much to make you become a corp theif?". I thought about this for about a second or maybe a fraction less, and replied "A Trillion ISK, everything else wouldnt be worth the drama".
So there you go folks, dont trust anyone you meet on the interwebz 100% until you know them well enough in RL to bring a Baseball or Cricket Bat over to their home in a quick and efficent manner. Plus dont forget everyone no matter what they say has their price, for most of us "honest" ones that price is just higher than temptors seem to ever offer us.

I think this is why corporations love traders in their corp. We're brutally honest at times even to the point of admitting that everyone has a price and everything including ones own personal ethics are for sale. |

Most likely true. Of the player corps I have belonged to, I am always the one wielding the whip. Not making decisions but pushing, prooding, conning, coniving and coaching others to get the "prime directives" done.
I do good logistics, ingame or out. That is my true skill. --

Interesting, this has prompted me to run reports on my customers as well. :)
I've only recorded sales of items when, where, how much beyond my transaction history so I'll have a limited record. But this has peeked my interest.

Another interesting thing squeezes forth from the 18 car derailment. Wonder how many of us traders are commonly problematic boat rockers against status quo's. Because I know that I'm always prodding, coaching, instigating, and (yes) conning others into getting the mission done. (Of course being prior service I'm over trained to be mission focused as is many in my corp.)

This is not a derailment, this is my thread and I consider all my wisdom "Pro Tip".

Well I am not prior service, considered it, but my timing was off in the greater scheme of things.
I do know that I have annoyed many a person in my RL work relationships for my unconventional methods of getting shit done quickly. Who cares about policy as long as the customer is satisfied, and the profit margin grows. --

Shar, I think you're going to love 0.2b. You can modify reports on the fly and come up with interesting stats in seconds from the report writer. Essentially an SQL editor with a GUI.
