Date: Mon, 8 Sep CE5 20:48:06 Coordinated New Eden Time (CNET -0000) To: Corporation and Alliance Discussion SIG ([email protected]) From: Kesper North ([email protected]) Subject: Combined Planetary Union leaves Great Wildlands, resets standings Information Privilege Level: 0/Public
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
This is to serve as the formal announcement of the Combined Planetary Union's departure from the Great Wildlands region. The political and tactical environment in Great Wildlands is rapidly becoming untenable. With Foundati0n's recent decision to revoke their much-vaunted "Free Space For All" policy and begin to charge rent in order for corporations and alliances to remain in Great Wildlands, they have lost a great many allies, including some of their staunchest supporters in combat operations. This change in policy has led directly to a sharp increase in the presence and strength of hostile powers in the region, particularly the Tau Ceti Federation, the Obsidian Empire, and Cry Havoc. It is our position that Foundati0n will soon lose the ability to maintain a hold on Great Wildlands given the current strategic situation, and we are not willing to pay three quarters of a billion isk per month for the privilege of watching FDN die.
As a result, we are moving to a new region of 0.0 space. As a consequence of our change in status, we are resetting ALL blue standings to neutral. Our red list will remain unchanged. We will soon be repopulating our blue list with a new set of allies; these negotiations are currently in progress and we expect them to be complete within the next few days.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have been taking our ease long enough. CPU is poised to become a more active force in New Eden. Look for us on a killboard near you.
Questions regarding this matter, as well as requests to renegotiate blue standings, should be directed to myself.
Long live the Combined Planetary Union.
In service, Kesper North Chief Diplomat and Minister of Propaganda

I'm not trolling, I'm just being honest. In a period when you guys scored 25 kills, Redshift Industrial (with 4 active members?) scored 101, despite being a couple men to your several hundred (winning a faction BS for their efforts). And by kills I count actual ops as opposed to just getting a rifter on a mail.
For example, on your killboard front page:
Sunday:
Kills: 9 Of which Foundation final blows: 9
Saturday:
Kills: 3 Of which Foundation final blows: 2
Friday Kills: 3 Of which Foundation final blows: 2
And that's a particularly good week :)
It's not like we're going all Bob and becoming landlords but obviously 'free space' is something that can get abused if it spirals out of control. Any successful venture has to be a meritocracy on some level and you guys expected free POS protection, gangs turning up for white knighting and the rest. You had the option of doing the work on the field but there needs to be some work done somewhere - it's the issue all alliances face.
There are still 'free space' areas of GW, neutrals still go through, etc. but there has to be common sense too, in terms of contribution

Wait what? Since when did Final blows mean you had more skill than someone else? Thought ships with higher ROFS normally get the final blow...

No the point is that whilst there are some kills on the CPU board, 99% are from a single CPU ship in a Foundation gang (which is also why the final blow always goes to Foundation, simply because there are 30 FDN on the mail and 1 CPU). Which is nothing against the one cpu guy, who probably did a cool job - but it shouldn't count as a major contribution to the region for their 100 man alliance.
When working in gangs of 50% CPU or more, CPU scored only 25 kills in a couple months and were outscored by very small corps, sometimes 4:1. Doesn't mean CPU aren't cool, doesn't mean the few kills they got weren't great, it just means that their contribution to the region as a whole wasn't a PvP one :)

Actually I'm pretty sure he's referring to shit like this where CPU contributed next to nothing to the fight and merely managed to leach their way onto a few killmails rather than actually being useful.

If someone hands you some fish + chips in a crinkled newspaper while looking out over a stormy Blackpool sea front, it's better than going to the stand and buying it yourself. If you enjoy a little southern delight with a cutie it's better than going to the nearest den of iniquity and paying cash.
The point is: we all like something for nothing. That's right, deep down we're all vulnerable to the grimy goodness of a nice, tight freebie.
And the truth is you (as a whole, some individual exceptions aside) didn't do much. You guys are cool, no problems - but as you said in your opening post, "you've been taking your ease".
In the end, someone always turns up with a stick and it's prod, prod, prod. Don't take it badly, just dust off the batter, savour the Blackpool view, the freezing girlies and the sound of the gulls and go about your business :)
And don't make me get my robe and wizard hat. You don't want that. No one does.

Lost Exile is actually one of the actively contributing CPU pilots. He has only been in GW for a short time, but he joined a couple of FDN gangs and tried several times to get a small gang together.

Edited by: Rajere on 09/09/2008 09:37:28 I pretty much despise the way these guys "fight", but I will say FDN are very, very good at accomplishing their goal of keeping GW "safe" for carebear types. Their method of "pvp" needs all the numbers they can get, so if you aren't really pulling your weight you should be paying rent. The fact that they haven't been charging their pets rent before this is somewhat surprising tbh. Then again I did have to teach a basic economics 101 class to fdn the last time I was in e02 so they probably didn't realize how much useless blues were taking advantage of them. Not saying you guys were useless no idea who you are tbh, but it certainly would be easy to do.
1. get blue standings and move into good ratting/mining space as applicable to your membership needs 2. recruit 1 newb (or use an alt) a month and build them a stack of rifters, make them x up for gangs, while the rest of you farm isk in relative safety 3. ??? 4. Profit
not even sure if step 1 is required, fdn are nrds i think. Can't speak for tcf (though it probably has something to do with them coming back from stain region) but the increase in activity over the last 30 days probably doesn't have much to do with you guys pulling out in the last 2-3. Just a guess. NOTR How to Fail at Eve
