Good thread idea. It's good for us just as much as CCP to reflect on whats RIGHT in Eve.
Things I like, in no particular order.
1) Brilliant soundtrack. Thank you John Hallur. Release it on CD (better yet, DVD audio or something)
2) Sense of scale. I still remember undocking from the station for the first time and passing a convoy of Bestowers in my Impairor. They seemed HUGE at the time. It's a shame that you start to lose that sense of size once you start flying bigger ships. You forget just how big that Battleship is, until you pull up next to one in a shuttle!
3) Racial style and identity. This applies to characters, ships, and structures. Visual design is outstanding. Characters aren't cookie cutter, and ship models are unique while still keeping the visual style of the races. Plus, the visual styles of the races fit them well. Amarrian stuff really looks, well, AMARRIAN. Exactly what you'd expect their stuff to look like. And all the ships look GOOD.
4) Background. CCP has done a fantastic job of fleshing out the universe we are in. Few games have even half as much background as Eve does. All the history and stories may not directly apply to the game, but they really solidify the universe. It really gives EVE a great deal of depth. If you havn't read the background on this site, I really suggest you do. Theres a LOT there, and it's entertaining reading.
5) Variety of gameplay. You can do ANYTHING in Eve. You are not restricted to a class or profession, and if you want to try something new, you can. You don't need to start from scratch if you want to fly minmatar ships now, or if you want to get into production. Just train the skills, and you're off. The ability to try new things is one of the main reasons I've kept interest all this time.
6) Variety in ship design/loadout. I love the fact there is no one good setup for anything. You don't just use gun A until you can afford gun B, and so on up the equipment ladder. Everyone isn't running around with the exact same gear at high level. There is a great deal of strategy to loadouts, and very few mods are useless. You hve the freedom to be creative with your ship, and if you're good, still be effective in space.
7) Focus on player interaction. Eve is a true PVP game in all aspects. The economy and politics of Eve, being player driven, are far more interesting than the static content in most games. Eve is more of a sandbox than a game. CCP gave us the tools and the setting, and we make the content. It takes more effort to get the most out of EVE, but when you do, its far more rewarding.
8) Developer interaction. The communication between Devs and the playerbase is phenominal compared to other MMO's. Things aren't hidden from us. If soemthing goes wrong with an upgrade or patch, it's a given that we'll be informed of whats happening and why.
I think I'm gonna shut up now, thats enough. Thank you CCP for a great product, and heres hoping it gets even better.
