I have been searching and going insane trying to get some BPO's. I have been under the impression that by working with R&D agents would yield some BPO's. I have just read in another thread that this was a false assumption. Working with R&D agents allows access to the Datacores.
So, what ways are there to acquiring BPO's?
Is buying them on the market the only way? That seems a little unusual.

Blueprint Original (BPO) can be bought on market for Tech I items and bought on forums/in-game contract system for Tech II items.
R&D agents do not give BPOs for last 1.5-2 years.

You can acquire BPC's (not BPO's) via exploration and some npc loot drops. You can also pick up bpc's from the loyalty stores of various corporations. You generally have to buy the bpo's off the market unresearched or via contracts or privately from indivuals. You can find bpo's for sale on the Sales message board of this site. I hope that helps

Ganking a bunch of shuttles in Jita is also a way of aquiring BPO's and BPC's. Although its not a guaranteed way of getting them.

T1 BPOs are gained from
- NPC's on the market - Other players on contracts / loot / trade
T2 BPOs are gained from
- Other players only.
Named and Faction items do not have BPOs.

If the only way to get BPOs (tech II) is from players. Then where do they get them from? Can you get them from inventing or something? |

if im not mistaken they were a limited number of T2 bpo's handed out over the years. hense why when a t2 bpo comes up for sale they will cost you a small fortune.

No Tech II BPOs are available in game anywhere with the exception of buying from another player. Now you might think this in not right but the universe of EVE is ever changing. Tech II BPOs were given out once by Research & Development (R&D) agents, this process was a lottery and most think it was unfair. Anyway to cut a long story short the Tech II lottery was scrapped and Invention has taken it's place. So the only way to manufacture Tech II items without a BPO is to invent them.

They don't get them. They got them. They used to be given out in a lottery system using RP instead of datacores (when datacores didn't exist). In practice the meant that most people spent years gaining standing on multiple chars for no reward other than RP which were worthless, and if they were really really lucky just before it ended and they introduced invention they got a T2 BPO which isn't worth building from because the item is crap and makes less profit than most T1 BPOs. :p
Most T2 BPOs now are pretty much collectors items, selling for more profit than they will likely make between now and the time the server eventually gets shut off for good. Buying them is simply to make you feel important or to gamble that you will still be playing in 7-10 years !
Anything that sells for a good amount of profit is profitable to invent, everything else you may as well invest in T1 BPOs instead as you will make more isk than if you had the T2 BPO. There are also plenty of items without a T2 BPO, though despite the common belief, these are often less profitable to invent than the items that do have a T2 BPO.
