Just want everyone to know that the EVE online sub forum on Somethingawful was replaced with a WARHAMMER ONLINE subforum because "EVE has died down".
What do you all think?

I went to their site,a nd I saw "choose side". That alone kept me away from it. This whole Allaince/Hord thingy going on is stupid. Don't know why folks pay to play WoW and be that limited.
Thats what makes EVE so great, freedom, you are not forced to take any sides, yo do what the hell you want to do :)

EVE has not died down, a lot of goons maybe have played for a few years and naturally get bored, it happens to everyone, but Warhammer online is a terrible WoW clone.

First, every MMO sucks upon release. If you can get into a beta, do so. It's fun, and probably the best the community of that game will ever be. Then, expect to not get to play much the first week of release due to bugs, then expect to be disappointed because the developers made some last minute changes or additions that you don't agree with.
Secondly, I already dislike the graphics of WAR. I also dislike the orientation of good vs. bad, BUT, I realize that WAR will be little more than a graphical representation of their table top game.
I'll try it, but since i don't expect it to be that great, I'll probably be pleasantly surprised, it might have some unique features and designs, I'll play it for a month or three ... then come back to EvE, having enjoyed my experience but otherwise not really been all that bothered.

True enough even age of conan was excellent during early access :)

I must say I play the tabletop verssion (warhammer fantasy battle) the rpg version(warhammer fantasy roleplay) the futur veriosn (warhammer 40.000) and am eger to play the computer mmo version. First of all it will be mainly the rpg representation (diffrent focus than the tabletop) and seems like it will have an interesting PvR (player vs realm) system. But time will tell...

I know many of us here on the forums harp on CCP alot, but do you ever wonder how brilliant they had to be to envision a system that makes you want to keep paying for your account, even when you don't feel like playing and are off in another game?

This a 1000 times. Blizzard actualy riped many ideas form Games Workshop (the guys that made Warhammer Fantasy Battle) - zergs in starcraft were originaly tyranids form 40K space marines? 40K. Elven units in warcraft riped form high elves (in warcraft 2) the elves from Warcraft 3 ripped from woodelves etc.

Can't speak for Warhammer specifically too much and am not planning on playing it but Mythic Entertainment who developed it made a very entertaining game called Dark Age of Camelot which was a great pvp game. If I were to try another MMO right now, i would give Warhammer a try. The only downside {for me} is Mythic was bought out and is now a part of Electronic Arts which i consider a pretty crappy game company. However, Mythic Devs are the ones who are running/designing the game.
Those who are just writing it off as another "WoW clone" without even trying it out or knowing anything about it are pretty stupid and not impressing anyone by trying to sound like a hardcore pvper who will only settle for the cold harshness of EvE.
Like i said in other threads, EvE isn't all that cold and harsh once you have some isk. {which is easy enough to make once you leave the "noob stage" of this game.}

Agreed. Warhammer was there way before WoW. However Warhammer on his turn got most inspiration from LOTR. And we all know Tolkien got his inspiration from old myths, folklore and religion.
Anybody claiming Warhammer, WoW or even LOTR is original didn't do his/her homework.
Safe to say we have been playing games who are more then 2000-3000 years old. Talking about being original...

and i wouldn't call Somethingawful an authority on gaming. all multigame sites are run by someone and if they decide to be a fan of a one game and not another guess which gets a forum on their site.

WoW = World of warcraft. Warhammer Online is coming out after World of warcraft and the game is DEFINETLY A WOW CLONE. I didn't say nor care who came up with high elves and magic missiles first. One of the best things about Blizzard is that they see a good idea and steal it.

lol after watching that video, I feel a little foolish about my earlier post in this thread. However, I would still give these guys the benefit of the doubt on their pvp. This video is more about the PvE sytem/areas and quests.
I have to admit that the graphics in the video look too catoonish for my tastes. DAOC graphics are dated by today's standards but they were not nearly as cartoonish.
Not sure why you forum chest thumpers would be worried anyway. Only players who would leave EvE for what you view as a "lesser" game are carebears and you don't like them anyway.....right?

Way to base your opinion off 2 year old pre-beta youtube footage. Warhammer is based around a PVP endgame with a complete siege warfare system available at launch time. Character models do look somewhat similiar to wow but when you start playing the game you should expect a very different feeling world.

Sounds alot like the promises of AoC to me. Not that you couldn't be exactly correct, Danjira. Might be a beta tester, might be a developer, who knows. But the only real proof is personal experience when the game launches. Everything else should be taken with a grain of salt ...

EvE has nothing to fear from Warhummer. WH's player base is a totally different kind of MMO player. WoW and AOC have a lot more to fear from it, basically same kind of players.

Doubtful, EvE is about the only MMO out there where Goons and can be Goons and not get banned en masse.

it wont do anything to EVE, thats been said already, but the simple fact that so many of you are trashing the game with obviously NO knowledge of the game.
Let me help:
Its more of a DAOC clone than WoW, it just HAPPENS TO HAVE ELVES.
Things it has in common with WoW: You level by killing things, it has elves, it has crafting, fantasy based, money is based on the "gold standard". Broken into Two factions
Now those are pretty loose things in common. The differences are pretty hefty though when you look at basic game functions, like being able to level entirely by KILLING PLAYERS, something that is terribly rewarded in WoW. The fact that it forces more of the community to cooperate with its "public quests" (pretty unique and a good idea). The entire REALM is able to be taken by one side, and the fights for those are pretty epic, and also, NOT MUCH LAG FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE (200+, and by not much, i mean NONE).
TBH, your all ******ed for smashing another PVP centric game (Early in development there was a question and answer session about the PVE element of the game, to which was answered "Well, you CAN pve..but honestly, if your buying this game, its going to be for the PVE"), and a good 80% of you are talking out of your ass and have no clue about the game, or most other new games being released.
To complain about the factions is pretty hypocritical, seeing as how EVE just introduced factional combat. Saying its not right because your restricting yourself to one side is also showing your ignorance, as there is NOTHING STOPPING YOU from making alts for the "other side" in ANY of these games.

Once again, its a different player base, wanting a different theme for their game, EVE players will return to EVE, but sometimes you want to have something to do on long skill trains, or just as a secondary game that you play beside EVE.

I've been playing the open beta for WAR and it is lots of fun and PvP-rific and the PvE is pretty fun too. However, it'll never replace Eve.

My beta impressions from warhammer online is that's it's just a shitty WoW clone. The gameplay is so much like WoW it's almost silly. There was nothing I saw in it that didn't give me WoW deja vu.

The goons are mearly the biggest group of arsehats in a game filled to the brim with groups of arsehats. Might also be a reason they are jumping ship. They can't be unique in Eve just moar of the same so no matter how hard they try there is always someone else upstaging them. Also their numbers mean nothing in Eve as they just get swallowed up in the background noise so a different pvp griefer mmo with very limited server numbers compaired to Eve might get their juices flowing again.

That said, I am sure they probably borrowed a few things from WoW. After all, WoW is the game that stole a huge chunk of their playerbase from DAOC.

As for the who stole who's ideas, I was listening to the Witty Ranter podcast on Virginworlds (they did a Warhammer episode), and the general conclusion of the guys there was:
Mythic have achieved what EA wanted them to do, which was to take WOW and make it better. Make the best daiku(sp) style game of the current generation, without doing anything too revolutionary.
Personally I feel that I'd enjoy playing through, and completing the PVE content, but ultimately I'd return to EVE.
It's not going to kill EVE,. That's already been done at least 20 times apparently

Warhammer online does not have spaceship's so instantly scores a big fail on the fail/win scale to me. Its also a clone of Wow and I HATED wow.

Even if what I have heard that Warhammer is a superiour game compared to WoW, very much so when talking about pvp and graphic, it is still yet another fantasy mmorpg. If it was a mmorpg similar to EvE I would have been curious, but it isnŠt.

I think that is the crux, at least it was for me. After having played x-amount of fantasy MMO's, I couldn't bring myself to continue playing AoC for more then 1 week. Instead I started to play EVE, and wondered why I didn't start to play EVE a few years ago.

and i have to say warhammer is a great game and not a wown ripoff wow was a warhammer tabletop spy since they copied almost all of it from warhammer.
and there is so much more to warhammer then there is to wow.
oooh and lol to the lag i bet you have not yet been stuck in eve for 2 hours trying to jump into 1 system where the blob is at so the reduced beta servers are keeping up alot better then eve when the blob is close.
not even 3 weeks ago it took me 2 hours to cross 6 jumps due to a cap battle and local was uner 350 but the capitals **** it all up and are the magical lagbombs of the past.

I am pretty sure Warhammer will go down the toilet too, just as the other newly released online games have done.
There is nothing about Warhammer that is really attractive to me. The only competitor to EVE i could find earlier was in Conan, and we all saw hoe that went. Now, it have aprox. 250k players, and its still going down. PotBS was another fiasco.
No, I think the only future game that will rise to challenge EVE online will be CCPs 2nd onlinegame in developement: World of Darkness.

well so far the sounds i am hearing aren't the bad ones from the warhammer community.
we will soon find out tho a few days left to the headstart and the rest will join them on the 18th for the general launch.
and they already have good plans for whats coming in the future.
and the people who say its a copy have clearly not played in the beta and looked at whats in it all

and i think you cant really compare eve to warhammer since they are completely diff games.

I have been in the 200 man fights, system ran fine, its specifically designed around that, and it works, but ok, you can try again. I'm willing to bet "people" you know playing are less than 5, and I would be willing to bet of those, less than half have complained about lag. See, if you actually knew anybody, you'd know there's almost constantly a huge fight running at the Keeps right now, so you've proven in one post that you have no clue what your talking about.

I think that means that the Goons discovered that fueling POSes just isn't funny after a while. A game like warhammer, especially when it's new, should have a lot more exploits to, well, exploit for "lulz".

Seriously I can understand why people are moving away from things that are EVE related, in fact in the last couple of weeks I personally know 30 people that have ended their EVE playing days and there are a whole lot more that are leaving as soon as their game time runs out.
W.H.O looks like it might be an ok game so I can understand why people are going there and talking about it.

Well I suspended my eve accounts after a year of play, and im jumping into Warhammer (play the tabletop so im biased) the endgame was just the repedative Pve and laggy pvp, the EVE killer may well be Jumpgate Evolution...at least I will be able to FLY the ship (remember Elite?)...and I have already given away my stuff!

That is usually the first reaction to those accusations but people aren't talking about the IP. The gameplay is a 100% carbon copy with some extras thrown in. "But didn't WoW rip off Everquest?" Yeah, but WAR really is that similar to WoW.
Never surprised me though. DAoC was EQ with RvR, WAR is WoW with RvR; same launch rushes too.
