May you heard about the "Large Hadron Collider"
Whats about founding a Group of EVE Players (using BOINC - it works like the SETI@home Projekt) ?
- If someone would create one i'll immediately ^_^

Partical accelerators are boring.
They NEVER drop loot no matter how many you explode. The LHC will be no different I am certain.

The risk is small but it's enough that it's insanity. No one KNOWS exactly how dangerous or safe it is, any risks and safety checks are based on theoretical ideas on how things might work, which means any statistics or probabilities are just there to look reassuring.

Nobody knows the world won't arbitrarily implode tomorrow, and you have just as much reason to believe that as you have to believe that the LHC will cause the world to end...

AFAIK, the data produced by the LHC will be sent to computational resources spread throughout all Europe, through GRID computing.

Why do the rest of us have to take such risks just so we can collide some particles?

I'm really sorry, I'm 36 years old, I really should know better, but every time I hear about the LHC or see it written down, I just think:
Large Hard-on Collider
maybe it's because I was in Celtic Anarchy, QUAM, and INFOD, perhaps I should apply to Finfleet or MGRL!
