But words can never hurt me.
That was the old adage that was so very commonly used when I was growing up.
Times have changed, I suppose, as they inevitably do, but change is always better.
When looking at the current clusterfck involving Mittanni, I try to think about what actually has happened to the real people involved.
The "victim" in all this isn't really much of a victim, especially not after everything has played out.. He plays eve, and always in eve you can incur the wrath of many folks at any given time for little or no reason, so having someone sick their minions on you in an internet spaceship game shouldn't be a life-altering event. In fact, I think most of us would probably enjoy the attention to some degree :)
He's now gained a measure of celebrity and attention that I'm quite sure he will enjoy. Stories to tell the grandkids, etc.
What has he really lost? How has his life been changed for the worse?
Should Mittanni have said what he did on live EvE-TV? Mittanni has apologized, so he obviously thinks not.
For the people who are crying out against him, how many of you have never regretted any words that ever came out of your mouth?
Mittanni received 10,058 votes in the CSM election, It's my guess that if there was a re-election, he'd still be the overwhelming victor.
Why? Because of the things he wants to focus on for eve, we like his ideas, and his ability to get things done. I could care less about his political correctness, as that won't help him guide the game down the right path. In fact, one of the things that makes him most suited for the job is that he is not afraid to say what's on his mind, and call bullsht when there is bullsht to be called.
At this point I call bullshit on this whole circus. There are plenty of people raging about this event that simply never liked Mittanni ( or possibly his agenda ) before this, and are simply using this as a platform to further their personal goals.

You post how you think you'll get more readers, and I'll do the same. If you think page 594 of the local threadnaught is the way to do that, more power to ya.

There is also old addages of "Silence is golden", "If you haven't got something good to say don't say anything" or "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt"
The Mittani has admitted his responsibility and this is where the difference in the issue lies. He is meant to be representative or ambassador as part of the CSM. As such his actions carry greater implications and he should also demonstrate an attitude or model of behaviour all EvE players should aspire towards. Clearly as a result of the Fanfest Alliance Panel debacle and the aftermath he didn't achieve these aims.
As such why is it so alien that we can in fact use our words in a supportive, nurturing manner to make someone feel good about themselves. We have the power to use our words to make others happy. I would see this form of approach in relation to the CSM as being more helpfull and perhaps more commercially beneficial as it is socially constructive.
Or are we saying that the only way that we can now market EvE is with just pureile sensationalism? I don't see any CCP employees insulting disadvantged groups for subscriptions, as such I'm reluctant to believe it is a marketing ideal for them, especially when the responce to this fiasco has been denied as something CCP supports. For me the future vision for EvE and Fanfest was an encouraging experience and had made me feel enlivened about EvE, certain members of the CSM tainted that experience which was a real shame and is begining to eat into enthusiasm as a result.
Why in any sense of reason should the power of the Internet to post terrible, hateful words that you would not have ever even dared to utter in person GÇô words so hurtful and cruel that other examples on the internet where several kids with bright futures have turned to suicide to escape from them. The tragedy of cyberbullying has become so widespread that there is now new legislation being drafted to combat it.
The important distinction in all of this is the responsibility for actions, moreso as when a CSM representative, and being man enough to face the consequences for them. Bounty Hunting for CSM7
