Due to numerous issues with the EVE Launcher and the strain it's currently causing on the Technical queue we created the following Wiki article with a collection of known issues and workarounds. It will be updated with new information and workarounds as they arrive.

Hi, I don't know if this is the best place to post it, but I would like to report that using Safari on Windows as the default browser and clicking any links inside the launcher brings Internet Explorer up but opens nothing.
It seems that the launcher is not calling the OS to open the URLs but in fact just forcing them through IE.

Would you be so kind to take the time to report a bug about the issue so the developers can investigate the issue in more detail and release a fix for it as quickly as possible. The more reports they receive about the issue from different aspects and hardware profiles the better.

I have not yet been able to get the launcher to open or close gracefully when there is no internet connection. It corrupts the install. When there is no internet there needs to be a pop up and no change to the installed files. People that move their computer alot and use hotel and other internet connections would be greatful. |

I did not copy paste the message but it only happens when you are trying to patch. After i cleared cache and ran the repair tool. It reinstalled the current TQ update patch. Disconnecting the Wifi gave me the clear no internet message. When I scanning thru the earlier error messages it happened 4 to 5 times. There was a clear no internet error message.
Also not getting any web pages to load if I use the launcher. IE loads but there is not a web address. If there is another build to day i'll make sure I recorde the message for later down load.

i was trying something about eve launcher and steam, but found nothing, so i will post my experiences here :
1. when i launch eve through steam after starting up/restarting PC, it usually launches the launcher, launcher launchers the game, i believe that part works as intended, but, when i close client and run it again via steam, it launches the game directly.
2. the steam overlay doesn't work in eve since eve launcher was delivered. any chance of fixing this ? i really loved to use steam overlay to make and post screens from eve (worked great for screening and posting reports of gate camps and so on)

im not sure if this work around has been stickied .... here goes ...
if your launcher does not update client properly .... or it says client is updated ... but eve does not run ...
1) clear bulkdata 2) off antivirus (some may have to off firewall) 3) off any other internet service (not sure abt this 1) 4) run repair 5) run evefile.eve direct (take note the error) ... not the launcher.exe 6) repeat process 4-5. until evefile does not return a error report and actually runs.
7) return back your other programs to service (ie --> antivirus, torrenters, etc etc)

Turning off the virus and/or firewall is NOT an option for me! i am not going to walk any risk just becouse they fail to make the launcher work like intended. All games i have that uses launchers or websites run just fine also does eve when i start it by bypassing the launcher with exefile.exe in the bin directory (this only works if u got a fresh installation from the latest version).
It seems they pushing patches like every day now so if you have the launcher problem your pretty screwed couse in my case i need to download the full client almost each freakin day install it and bypass the launcher as discribed above. This is getting to the point where i realy think if its worth my money. I realy like the new stuff ccp is doing but the launcher is killing my desire to play the game. If ALL other stuff works exept for the eve launcher (aka eve destroyer!) it's pretty obvious where the problem is.... |

I have tried this option also without any succes, tried the repair tool lots of times but keeps telling me it succeeded but when i close it it tells me there where errors look into your temp folder blablabla. And yest the cache was empty. when i start the game bypassing the launcher it tells me also there is an update, but when i start it there it automaticly sends me to the launcher wich screws everything up again (saying the data is corrupted). The ONLY way for me to play the game is to uninstall eve download the full client install and then bypassing the launcher. I am done with it though... eather they fix it or throw it away but i cant play eve anymore with the launcher. Normaly the reinstall would not be that much of a problem, but they bring out patches by the minute now. |

I've had the same issue for weeks and I finally found a fix.
Generic Patch-MAC Generic Patch-Windows
Download the above.
It will install it WITHOUT the need to even open the EVE Launcher. Everything related to EVE must be shut down. The software may ask you to reboot your PC before it will run and patch your game.
I could not access EVE for close to 3 weeks or more. Found this today and it worked the first try and I'm now back in the game. Granted I lost a full paid month and a full month of training that I'll never get back but I am back to playing.
Hope this helps at least someone. Worked like a charm for me. It DOES NOT have to be in your eve folder to work.
Also, when new patches are released and you want to bypass the Launcher use this link to get this for new patches.
Windows Mac
Just click your OS link above, when on the page just click the "Generic Patch" link and your good to go.

yep ... n when that happen to me ... i actually open that error log .... i kept track of what the error log said
i a re-ran repair a **** load of times to see what happens.
n i kept an eye during th aptch to see what the repair does ...
if it has block missing and some sort of error being unable to patch/repair certain files properly ... it is the data stream going to your comp and it has to do with how certain anti virus handles CCP data stream.
after turning off my anti virus the error become a different set of errors and the way block go missing are also different
you just have to try it. OR otherwise .... DO a complete antiviral sweep and trojan etc etc sweep ... turn off all TSR etc etc ... do a spybot sweep tooo .... then consider turning off antivirus for 30minutes and see the diff in repair. it has to do with HOW CCP stream data to you (so its CCP fault COS all my other games dont have these stupid problems)
in the worse repair scenario i did, i ran repair over 60 times ...
why?
say there are 50 files that require repair/patch, when repair runs each run may only repair 20% of the files ..... dont ask me why but that is what i encounter. so i had to run shitload sof times and recheck, till the total sum of the random repair "heals" the entire client fully WUT ??? |

Well I'm still getting the same issue with the launcher and guess what...
the answer is to go and down load the generic patcher....You know the same one that game me the "This is a 16bit" application message.
WHY have a GM point me to that as a fix when it's been raised by people already as not fixing the problem???? 
This time round it took only about 5 or 6 rinse and repeats of Kanashaii's fix process so that the client finally worked... |

The launcher was failing also saying "No connection could be made to the content server. " The repair tool failed many times.
So finally I decided to uninstall the game, download the full client and do a fresh install,, however at the download link below

Download the three files below, the executable plus the two payload files. Once you have completed the downloads, make sure all three files are located in the same directory. Find the executable and run it. The installer should start installing Eve Online from the downloaded payload files.

So I'm not even able to download what I need for a full fresh install, totally stuck here ~~

^^^^^ Link to the Download Megathread started by numerous people. Dunno if it will help you, considering that they are patches to x64 bit windows OSs (at least for me). If nothing else, you tried another method.
Look, i like the direction that CCP is going, but please, dont rely on the community to keep uploading patches for YOUR game, just have these downloadable on your website (not by going through the launcher, we need ANOTHER method as backup).
Proper deployment method is simple, when you have a new product, keep OFFICIAL support for the OLD product until Major problems are solved.
Well, off to go grind some more stations...

There is an issue that is likely intended, but does not make sense from my perspective.
I can maximize the launcher window from the task bar by clicking the taskbar icon. I click a second time, but unlike a normal program, it will not then minimize.
Why does the launcher need to be like an over-staying guest? Why not click once to maximize, click a second time to minimize.
I am glad the minimize button works on the window itself, but why does it behave the normal way from the task bar? |

I've got the same issue as Itchy, but My PC went to a BSOD when I tried to log in via the launcher, and after I restarted it, I started getting the "Please run repair.exe" message, but it's still broken.
is there a quick way to try to re-install the game without having to re-download the whole thing?

My repair.exe usually locks up after the same amount of time the launcher does, which is at 15% to 25% (according to the launcher). REGARDLESS. Running Repair repeatedly ... well, after about 20 attempts and no single completion of the program (and a day wasted) I tend to give up.
Another side-effect on my side with the launcher running default 5 threads is hogging -ALL- lan trafic. Can't even connect to my router after the launcher locks up. |

it is still using the same re-run repair till it fixes approach. it seems in my case, i had to upgrade ATI drivers and direct-X.
never used any launcher, launcher seems to be unfixing the program ... WUT ??? |

The new Launcher/Updater makes trouble with personal Firewalls, because he always makes a random new directory inside \Temp\ and wants to start an internet connection from there. Possible solution: Always use the same directory (best inside the Eve Game Dir). With this everybody can allow the setup program to connect to the internet without security issues. |

None of the wiki articles or notes about disabling NOD32 packet filtering or anything else helped, and I am STILL stuck with having to get one of my corp mates to rar his launcher folder and send it to me so that I can play.

when i try to start a second instance of the client, the launcher says:
"the Eve-launcher cannot refresh a folder which is being used by other processes. please stop the following process: exefile.exe"

I've had to ignore the launcher and just run the ExeFile.exe from the bin directory to run the client. No idea why CCP decided to have a launcher that patched to an incompatible version.
I tried the file that others have mentioned in the 64bit thread but the launcher just updated itself back to the incompatible version again. |

same issue as post #35. none of my pc's (laptop win7x64/pc vista home premium) will launch a SECOND client. this happens after latest patch of escalation on april 24th. never had issue launching multi-clients other than poor frame rate. (i dont own state of the art pc/laptop so...) |

As Hannott, explains, do not close the launcher, and goes as follow:
- Start the eve launcher app at first, no other clients running, just the launcher!!
-Click at the right top cornor, the settings for the launcher app.
- Go to the startup tab
- The two options, 'Only display.... ' and 'Close the Eve Launcher... ' should be turned off and press ok.
- The launcher app will stay on, after clicking on PLay.
- Click on PLay in the launcher again and your 2nd client should start normally.
It worked for me, hope it does for you guys

Add to known problems, EVE Launcher is not compatible with the web proxy Squid (running it on my FW-Box, only disabling the proxy allows me to update the launcher, otherwise it will stop with "finished" after step 3 of 7 and an updatched launcher hanging in a update loop).
edit: Adding "*.cdn1.eveonline.com" at domains that shouldn't be cached is a workaround for this. |

*Please note that this problem didn't start for me after the initial inferno patch. It's started after one of the smaller follow up patches.
When launching EVE - I get this launcher related error -> LAUNCHER ERROR
After which I run the repair tool, and it completes without a problem -> REPAIR TOOL RESULTS
I then try running eve again, and it updates the launcher -> PATCHING
Immediately, we are back to step 1 -> LAUNCHER ERROR
Note that I have also deleted the launcher folder as instructed to let the client install a fresh launcher. This doesn't change anything.
As others have mentioned, I CAN in fact run EVE directly through the executable in the BIN folder. Trying to run it correctly through the launcher however gives me the results you can see above. |

Got a similar problem:
when I lauch EVE through"D:\EVE Online\eve.exe" (Default Shortcut which was placed on my desktop) nothing happens. I see a "eve.exe*32" and sometimes a "launcher.exe*32" in my Task Manager, but they vanish after ~1 sec.
When I lauch the launcher.exe the same happens (kinda nothing).
When I lauch EVE though the bin\exefile.exe it starts without the launcher as if nothing happened.
I had updated the game with the repair.exe, since the laucher didn't start. I tried to download the "newest" repair tool in the forums (since that's what the devs said all the time) but seems I had already the newest version, since it didn't do anything different at this point.
I use Windows 7, 64-Bit with UAC turned on. EVE Online is installed on another Harddrive, so outside the C:\Programms directory - if that matters.
sooo do I have to start EVE via bin\exefile.exe all the time or is there help ?

Start the client from the launcher.
Log in this account, with this toon.

Now for the problem:
Start from scratch, with the launcher, and no clients running.
Log in this account, this toon.
CLOSE THE LAUNCHER.
Changing my mind, need the second account, so:
Start the launcher: I now get "Unable to update EVE online client" pop-up, and cannot start the client from the launcher.
The only way to remedy this is to close both the launcher, and the client already running, and start over.
This has NOT been an issue before, and both client & launcher are completely up to date.
Has anybody seen this happening, or is it just my installation that is acting up ?
Any thoughts as to what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated. |

May 11 I tried to launch EVE from my desktop, and the launcher downloaded a new update, which took only a few seconds. Then a "Run as" dialogue box appeared stating:
"You may not have the necessary permission to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run this program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user"
I then have the option to select my current user account or "Administrator"
My current user account has full administrative privileges, however, when I select this account and click OK I receive an error message from EVE Online Launcher Setup stating "Running the launcher updater requires administrator privileges".
The launcher then returns to the "Run as" dialogue box with the original option to choose my current user or "Administrator".
There is no account named "Administrator" on this computer, and my account has full administrator privileges.
Sent an email promptly to support but have heard no reply yet.
Any advice for a workaround would be very much appreciated. Trying a complete uninstall/reinstall tonight, if that doesn't work will probably cancel my sub as I renew on the 14th. |

Alright, as of the most recent update, the launcher is working again for me. Prior to this, there was a suggestion in another thread by a dev which did not work for me at that time. Tried it again after the recent update and it did work.
In my case, it was to delete the launcher folder from the EVE-O directory and then launch the client. At this point, it downloads the launcher again. After this, the launcher will update on the next run.
Up until now, the solution was a no-go for me. And using the repair tool did not work either as it would repair and then the error would return upon trying to run the launcher immediately afterwards.
So for it's ok at least. |

so i FINALLY managed to make the launcher work. these patch files are useless to me because you still need the launcher to get them implemented. problem was:
i start the launcher, it says it has to patch itself. it downloads the patch and cant start it because of admin-rights-****-off. i start it manually, it unpacks stuff in a temporary folder including a 'patch_win.exe'. this exe tries to connect to ccp servers but cant because my fireall blocks it and it shuts down. i manually allow it and restart the launcher patch. wich creates a NEW exe in a different folder and my firewall blocks it AGAIN.
well i could play eve with the small patches in the last weeks by just starting exefile.exe but now for the big patch i needed the launcher again. so i still got this old problem to deal with. today i found out how my firewall manages these exe's in ever new folders and to work around this i had to permanently allow ccp server ip's. therefore i had to download a bigger version of the firewall i use to gain this feature. i had to start the launcher patch 5 times or so and allow 7 different ip's to finally make it work. now having downloaded the actual game patch manually and putting them into the eve install folder didnt help me at all because the launcher now compiles and downloads a new one. maybe thats because i downloaded a 1 gig patch file this morning and a smaller one later today and the launcher couldnt deal with that.
anyways this whole story could have been easily avoided if the launcher patch didnt just shut down the process if it doesnt get INSTANT access. all ccp would have to change is to give it 20 or 30 seconds for trying to connect before it goes all 'mememe i cant connect'.
i figured i post this just in case anyone has the same problem with his firewall. |

I dont know where the directory is located?. When i downloaded the game i had to download the seperate payloads, and the installer exe, i put them al in a folder on my desktop. |

yeah, same here. I came back today after being gone for several years, and clicking play did absolutely nothing.. it greyed out for 5 or so seconds, then went back to yellow. No process started.
So i just launched the exe manually, which worked fine..
It was a really great way to come back :p

I am trying to download all current patches with "eve online launcher" and it says 1,40 gb to download. Last night I dl'd 600mb. Today it says 1.40 gb again. Is that normal?
At one point is it easier to just download the full client, rather than hoping the patches install clean. I am going from 360229 to 405666.

Never had problems before when I played Eve. Now with the launcher I can't get client to start. One night an error box pops up for MS DirectX3xd which I never had issues with before. Did a complete reinstall and the game worked. Now tonight I get another error message saying the files are corrupted. Request tickets filed for support are unanswered after 2 days. Sorry I work hard for my pay.. it will go to another company that has a game I can at least access without having to reinstall every time I just want to login for an hour.

Yesterday I patched my Sisi Installation by opening it with the eve - shortcut from within my sisi installation folder. It opens up the Launcher Window just as the EVE Launcher does in my EVE Installation Folder and starts the patch. Everything is fine up to this point.
Now Today However when I open the Launcher from my Main EVE Installation Folder and once I hit play within the Launcher, it tries to connect to sisi. Once the Client opens I get the EULA Window showing up and at the bottom it says server: Singularity - incopatible version blablabla
How the hell did my SIS Shortcut **** up my Main EVE Launcher???
At least Iwas able to open up Tranquility by the regular eve.exe from the main Installation, howerver all my settings are not there, just as if i would be opening up eve for the first time. (again with the EULA Window poping up)

Found some info that could help you. It's not a complete workaround (as it only works with the client but not with the Launcher): [b]So I assume you have the client up to date somehow (like copying a fully patched working client folder on a portable HDD)[/b]
for people like me connecting through a proxy, here's where you put the proxy settings so that the client can connect to its server:
in the prefs.ini file ( [...]AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\h_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings ) you have the line "inputhost = localhost" replace localhost by your proxy settings save and voil+á !
Launch the client directly with "ExeFile.exe" from your CCP/Eve/bin folder |

After running the repairer multiple times, clearing cache disabling firewall i'm no closer to having Eve start. I wouldn't be in much of a hurry except that i have training completing soon. |

But there was a file, honk.ini (in C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE on my machine), that said I had an older version. I renamed that file, and the launcher now works for me. |

read the other posts and compared to them i have just little to nothing issue with launcher. on win7 when i click on launcher icon it start an eve.exe, but nothing happens. then i click on launcher icon again, it start an other eve.exe but it close in seconds and start up the launcher. Proxies cause an issue with the launcher. At least this is true with Chrome- I am not sure about the other browsers. so go into Chrome menu- settings- advanced settings- proxy settings- LAN- settings- deselect the use proxies options. |

Also, the launcher is not my preferred, favorite, or any other way accepted browser. I use Firefox. No, I don't use IE as web browser. No, I don't use Eve launcher as web browser. They f*cked up the only thing that can fix the Problem... The Launcher. Great deal. Gotta download and reinstall the whole Thing instead of just patching it, or wait for some CCP Grunt to release a manual Download/Fix for the Patch.

I couldn't lauch Eve, everytime I press on PLAY it would launch EveFile.exe and it would show up in the taskbar for a few seconds, then it would close automatically.
By looking at the Administrative events, I noticed that the TeamSpeak plugin TS Overlay was crashing, so I disabled it in Teamspeak and everything was working fine.

My campus network requires a log in once you connect to it. After a while you may be dropped from the network and have to log in again. I was dropped while in-game once and that seems to break the launcher. Even once I reconnect to the internet, the launcher still gives this error. The repair tool has not helped. I can start the game through exefile.exe but there doesn't seem to be a way to fix the launcher other than completely reinstalling the game.
Edit: Deleting the launcher/cache folder and launching it again seems to fix this problem. Still, this bug should be fixed. |

I have also seen this problem. When it occurred I was getting a really useless error message before the launcher started. The message contained this nonsense,
TypeError: string indices must be integers, not str Locals by frame, innermost last: Frame "module" in launcher.py at line 56: NoInternetError = "class 'lib.exceptions.NoInternetError'" ServerUnreachableException = "class 'lib.exceptions.ServerUnreachableException'"
which makes it sound like there is a problem with my Internet connectivity. I spent an hour fiddling with my firewall settings (even though the Eve client had worked fine the day before with my firewall) but nothing worked. In the end I found the above quoted post, deleted the launcher cache and it started working.
Just one additional note, the launcher cache is located under /Program File (x86)/CCP/Eve/launcher and not where the rest of the cache files are for the Eve client. Just another gift of confusion from CCP.
I hate dealing with software that is this sloppy.

I have not been able to log in on my own computer for nearly 3 weeks now. When launching I get the following error message:
"Client data is corrupted. Starting the application through the EVE Launcher will attempt to repair the data. A new installation must be downloaded manually if the issue persists."
I have redownloaded and reinstalled the client more than a dozen times so far and run the repair tool more times than I care to count. I have done 4 full virus scans with 4 different AV programs (and then removed them) and am convinced my computer is clean. I'm using Windows 7/64 The problem originally started when I tried to open the client on a public network that required a login (and I was not logged in) and it corrupted the launcher. This has happened before but was always fixxed when I reinstalled the client.

I enter pw+user... it says "enter as...." but the PLAY button was greyed out!
win7 every patch u can imagen is installed.
it 1c said me something was not able to download... but closed it accidently to fast.
I tried some options and now it wont even show the louncher............ good one. like the "old" louncher was so bad ..

This is a complete failure for a software company to deploy such a shody product without warning their customers prior to the event and with apparently no role back plan in the face this quantity of complaints.
I have utterly no interest in testing your product for you unless you want to pay me a software test analysts salary.
I used all of your "work arounds" aka: the product doesnt work but here is how you circumvent it... and eventually got to a state that I can login using the exe in the bin folder. i.e. the launcher still does not work....
Can you do myself and the rest of your paying customers a favour and announce that you are going to deploy untested and incomplete software in advance of doing so next time please.

The launcher also doesn't seem to even want to start since it just goes to 40k memory used and stops like it's not responding.

I copied this from another post (credit goes to the guy who actually come up with the help). I had to go into my Bin folder and run the ExeFile directly from there. It simply bypasses the launcher and takes you directly into Eve. Works like a charm.
***ATTENTION*** -- TEMPORARY FIX
Repair and play.
1) C:\CCP\EVE\repair.exe
1a) If the repairer fails - re-run it until it completes.
2) C:\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe
The game should load and let you connect without issue..
DO NOT under any circumstances re-run the patcher or this will break and you will have to do it over again.

Also getting the Offline mode (when I disabled my proxy) error, however, with the proxy enabled I actually GET A REAL AND USEFUL ERROR MESSAGE so here it is for your 'devs' to play with:
No such domain Your request for http://none/en?steam_token=&server=tranquility could not be fulfilled, because the domain name none could not be resolved.
This is often a temporary failure, so you might just try again.
Seriously, I'd have hoped you guys were better at writing code than Microsoft's typical "omg broke say ERROR in caps and abort" approach to error handling. Even if the real error doesn't mean anything to 99% of people, who wont read ANY difference into WHATEVER message your program produces, for the few percent who do understand anything about computers, or hell, even the sake of the bug reports to your own devs, how about you actually do something like
if (error) then print "Error occured downloading patch index - "+errormessage end rather than if (error) then print "QQ ERROR!" end
f* microsoft approach to error messages. do better. |

Ive updated my repair tool to ver 3.52, and started it up. It runs all the processes fine up until (6/7) where it needs to download the 23.18MB patch. Download goes fine up until 79% where is just stops the download, no progress.
Is there a fix for this? |

My launcher broke also. Says offline mode. Was just in game had to relog to switch toons boom can't get on now.

You can then start the EVE client by using the \CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe executable if you wish to circumvent the EVE launcher altogether.
If that still doesn't work you can try getting the Launcher to reapply the patch by deleting to \CCP\EVE\common.ini
Guess what? Neither of these work? 
Doing the first means my client gets stuck in a loop where it tells me that the patch has been downloaded and needs to be applied, whereupon it attempts to do so and then launches the corrupted launcher meaning I cannot bypass the launcher.
Doing the 2nd just means my launcher gets corrupted again.
So what do I do with my training queue due to end tomorrow morning?

Maybe more testing is required before issuing updates? Or is it working as intended? Or is this just a clever ploy by ccp to get us all out to get fresh air or talk to the spose? |

IF the Repair Tool doesn't work:
"Okay fixed my issue so far downloaded the new Repair tool, which is allowing me to repair.
