The Drake may be an awesome combat ship, but looks wise it leaves a lot to be desired. Given the Mean look of the Ferox and even the Asymmetrical yet interesting designs of the Raven, Scorpion and even the Moa, the Drake looks like a warped grey plank of wood, with a spike nailed to it.
Hell even the Gallente BCs look better, The Brutix is reasonably brutal and while the Myrmidon does look like a sea horse which has been put in a suit of armor and then strategically lit up, they are far more interesting to look at than the Drake.
Could we PLEASE change the look of the Drake to something more in line with the Ferox?

Easy Fix: Train for a Ferox then.
Become one with the Void, leave behind your earthen Fears, Desires, Hopes. Don't let it fill you out, consume your Soul, your very being, making you dull. |

Boring? Should I remind you that you're talking about Caldari here? They are supposed to be bland and functional. That's all Caldari is about: Boring but working like clockwork.
Of course CCP could always add a wing or some antenna thingies to destroy the Drake's symmetry. Would that make it look more... interesting?

Wow. Why didnt I think of that??? Maybe because the Ferox is a Gun platform and the Drake is a missile platform? In which I have a huge amount of SP invested?

The Raven is not bland and the Ferox is definitely not bland, I don't care what it looks like, just so long as it doesnt look like something that does not look like some weird box kite.

What do you want, have you seen most ships in the game? CCP didn't excel at designing ships obviouslly... But you end loving them all even if they suck for real after a while. ---

No. Because there has to be at least one minor drawback for this otherwise borderline overpowered BC.

It's a matter of taste. I had a drake but now fly a Raven. I thought the drake looked a lot better and the Raven is fugly. I liked the look of the Cormorant too and was sorry to give it up when I moved to cruisers. I think the Ferox looks like a metal chicken.
The Rokh looks fabulous to me, but since I'm a missile guy it's not really desirable on the numbers. So i keep flying my fugly Raven because I can fit 6 cruise launchers on with good bonuses, even though I'd rather show up in something that looks like an actual battleship instead of an overgrown Caracal.
Like I said, it's all a matter of taste.

Eh, I disagree. I don't like all of the ships, but they did a great job on the design - they all have distinct looks and 'personalities' that fit the backstory very well.
If I had known when i started what all the ships were like, I'd have picked Amarr or Gallente for looks, but I've gotten used to the soulless utilitarianism of Caldari ship design. I still wish they'd swap the Rokh and the Raven though. I always feel embarrassed when I run into those Sansha guys and they mock my clunky-looking BS.

Seriously I dont care what the new model looks like so long as it doesn't look like something you might find in a pond, swimming along side the flat worms.

its really irrelevant what the outside of the ship looks like all ships only have one target location one weapon point one shield
so it doesnt matter if it looks like a seahorse or an open book. EVE PVP is out of control and is hurting EVE and CCP |

It could be worse, it could actually look like a drake...
To me it has a certain utilitarian appeal, plus the idea of successfully killing someone with it has an additional amusement factor. Nonetheless, it could be spruced up a bit beyond a slightly bent plate and still retain those features.
The bridge/sensor section seems like an afterthought, as though someone said 'take a bunch of missile launchers (8 launchers, check, oops, only 7 work), design a ship that has said launchers flying in close formation (ok, we bent a steel plate and stuck the launchers on the sides and the engine on the back), oh and we'd best give it some sensors (oh just stick them on the front, it'll look a bit spiky, but oh well)'.
You could improve that bit and still retain a certain boxy Caldari line to it. I still want to know what shipyard is building ships with 8 launchers but only enabling 7 of them... ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Edited by: WillageGirl on 15/09/2008 13:46:08 I like the way Drake looks. Its design is just as practical as one could expect from caldari engineers. It has superb sensors and shield's, who cares if it looks like a box as long as it kicks some gallente ass. (Thats what I assume caldari engineers would think... just to bring some RP into this discussion)
Theres always someone who doesnt like the way some ship looks. The fact is there's no design in this world that would satisfy everyones demans at the same time. Just live with it and if you really cant bare to look at it, fly some other ship.

I love the ship design in this game. Even the ships I think are ugly (most notably the Moa) are triumphs of design. The only thing I worry about is that CCP has started to use more symmetrical designs. The Harbinger, Drake, Myrmidon, Hurricane, Abaddon, Rokh, Hyperion and Maelstrom are all very symmetrical. Admittedly, they all look cool, so I can't really complain, but some more asymmetrical designs would be welcome.
They all have their own individual racial style as well, which is also a nice design element, cleverley using the simple colour coding of grey, green, gold and black. Caldari is functional and kind of like something you would construct from Lego, Amarr tends to look Imperious and vaguely phallic, Minmatar ships look cobbled together, and Gallente ships look curvy and organic.
I just look forward to the introduction of any new ship hulls (not that I expect to see many now).

Somehow - along the way - the Dev's (unfortunately ?) unintendedly swaped the drawings for the Drake and the Hurricane.....
The Drake look's more of the regular DuckTaped-ScrapHeap of Minmatar, as the appearence of the Hurricane actually is closer to the look of a wider extention of a Caracal ?
Hurricane's one of the most Sleek and stonishing designs in EVE - imho.

I think its a great looking ship.
Scorp, Moa are uggly. Most Mini look like junk, most gallente like blobs.
Its all a matter of taste. I put the Drake on my top 10 list of best looking ships though.
