Edited by: Marchocias on 14/09/2008 18:21:09 So I log in to Eve, and I immediately notice something isn't quite right; there appears to be an extra 1 positioned in front of the balance in my wallet. Immediately I check the wallet journal, and see that 1,000,000,000 has indeed been credited to me, apparently because "nightshade bat bought stuff from" me.
Warm fuzzy feelings of anticipation.
Now, this doesn't make much sense. All of the stuff I have on the market, put together, is worth less than 50 million. I head straight to the transaction log, to see, incredibly, that 'nightshade bat' has bought a single solitary Sabretooth Light Missile off me... Note, I have these listed at 10.01 isk.
Gobsmacked disbelief.
Having never heard of this guy, I naturally figure he must have made some kind of grevious error. I check my Eve mail. Indeed I have a message from the dude, informing me that he'd rather like me to send the cash to his alt character 'inifinite Singularities', as this is for whom the cash was intended. I also have a message from this alt, asking me to convo her when I log in.
The evil smile on my face gives way to sidesplitting maniacal laughter.
I am now left wondering what the ideal course of action should be. Do I: 1) Give him his money back. (As if.) 2) Give him a fair chunk of it back, as a gesture of good will... say 100 million? (Pffft) 3) Give him 1 isk, and tell him to do one. 4) Inform him that it was a pleasure doing business with him, and that I would be happy to fill any further missile buy orders at the same price in the future. 5) Contract him 1 additional missile, due to my buy-1-get-1-free offer on all purchases of 1 billion or over. 6) Ignore him. 7) Tell him to get real, or get ****ed?

I'd be careful...it could be an ISK seller trying to launder ISK, and filling your buy order by accident. Petition it and make sure, or they'll think you bought it. --------

Well, I have the eve mails, and a large remaining sell order of missiles (which has been on for months before nightshade bat was born), and in addition to that a history of having sold game time cards for isk.
I think this proves that I'm not scamming CCP. ---- Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*coughcough*aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrr!! |

Nobody thinks you are. But ISK sellers launder ISK through buy orders for ridiculous amounts. And there is no way for a GM to know when the ISK seller is actually selling you ISK out-of-game through a bad buy order, or is just making a mistake. So you could like like you bought ISK, even thought you didn't. Petition it, and ask if it's bad ISK. If it isn't, ask to keep it. --------

I'm guessing you had the low sell price in your station for that missle.
CCP coded sells to prevent isk launderers like this:
Regardless of who person A buys from, the order is fullfilled by the seller with the lowest price, but the higher price is paid for the item(s).
My guess is that someone was trying to transfer isk to an alt and thought this would do the trick.
Further, I'm guessing you just got yourself a billion isk at the poor schmuks expense!

I think gm stated that they don't reverse market transactions or contracts, some players have said stuff to contradict this, but then again most players are full of shit.
and I love how the market works like that, he tries to buy a sell order for 1billion and instead of getting that buy order he gets your lower priced buy order for the price he entered

Like others have said:
1) do not give it to the guy that made a mistake.
2) petition before spending just to be sure they wont take it from you at some future date leaving you with a neg balance.

Keep it. He was trying to funnel by selling something for a large price not realizing game mechanics would give the isk to the lowest seller. Not your fault, tell him to stop using trial accounts to funnel isk to his isk sellers.

Once you have confirmation that the money is clean, I think the decent think to do is to make sure he knows that his money is being put to good use:
1) buy a 1b ship 2) rename it 'HMS <his name>' 3) fly to his system (assuming high sec, of course) 4) parade around outside his station 5) bask in the heartwarming vibrations
You could even jettison a gift missile for him, though there is a risk that he might explode with happiness ;-)

I've had this happen to me three times now to the tune of around 500m total but it has been an obvious error on the buyers' part because a)the amounts were out by one or two decimal places rather than a large even 1 bill transaction b)the same character that bought it wanted the isk back In case anyone is wondering yes it was all returned and one was kind enough to give me a percentage as a thank you.
In your case it does seem a bit dodgy because it's a large round figure for one missile.

sounds definatly like a farmer laundering accident, otherwise why ask to have the isk sent to an alt? after a market accident.

Marchocias.
Look a bit more in depth, not once has this person who asking for the isk back offered to return the missile, so rather than an isk laundering attempt i got a feeling this is way bigger,
yes folks this is a sabretooth missile scam. !!
Best ask him for the missile back at least as a show of goodwill. ( then tell him all returns got to be within a day or no refund. )

No that's wrong. They remove the "illegal" 1 bil isk from your wallet. If he hasn't spent it, he will just lose the 1b he gained through someone else's error. If he did spend it, then he would go negative.
They ONLY remove the isk you received from a seller, you only go negative if you have less in your wallet than they remove.

Selled Rig Parts for 12 M and got 140 for them.
Petitioned it and GM told me it was ok. It¦s mostly when people buy somting straigt without the advanced Settings for a to high price and if the order don¦t got enught Items the next order will be used but at the same price, not at the asked.
I vote for Nr. 5.
Petition it to make shure the GMs know how you get the ISK and prove yourself not to dealing with dirty isk(ok it¦s still dirty but it¦s now in your Wallet by a legal way, so fair deal I think ).
