while it might be cool to have a cool 1b in your wallet, is it really worth a potential ban because you failed to report it when this happened? I guess you think this is worth the ban, enjoy your stay in banland. _____________________

you dont just lose the billion isk and are back to sqaure one....they set your wallet to NEGATIVE 1 billion isk and you have to make another billion before you can even attemot to do anything.
Afaik, no, they just remove the dirty ISK, stupid people who buy stuff with bought ISK (well, OK, obviously people don't buy ISK to stare at the wallet) end up with negative balances.

I think you're just being jealous (or you're really uninformed). They don't ban you because of one dodgy transaction, ISK gets removed and that's it. The whole 'oooh, enjoy your stay in banland' comment is both childish and wrong.

Er, if I was trying to scam CCP, would I have written a lengthy post in C&P, giving specific detail of the names, amounts, transactions etc., or would I just keep completely quiet, and hope that no-one notices? Just for the record, I think isk farmers are even scummier than **** sympathisers.
No point petitioning something that isn't causing me a problem.
Obviously I would have to abide by any decision made by CCP in such a matter. However, I think it would be rather unreasonable to punish me for someone elses mistake (especially as that person has already inadvertantly punished themselves, lol). If anyone has 1 billion removed, it should be 'inifinite Singularities' as this is who the money was meant for (wouldn't that just be a classic?).

I would petition it anyway, just to be sure. If it didn't come from an ISK seller, they'll let you keep the ISK. If it did then it's better find out as soon as possible.

You have recieved ISK that by in large looks like funneling of isk sellers, you are aware of this but yet have not petitioned it to get it checked by CCP. Therefore, I hope you do get banned as it appears you are supporting ISK selling, if your not part of the solution, you part of the problem.

Lol... why should I petition something that isn't causing me a problem, especially when I have done nothing to precipitate the situation other than place an ordinary sell order? If your bank sends you $1000 for no reason, do you ring up the bank and say "there seems to be some kind of error", or do you grin and get on with the rest of your life?
Also, how exactly am I supporting isk selling? If I go to a local drug dealer, and steal all his drugs, am I supporting him? I hope you get banned for being incomprehensibly foolish. How am I part of the problem? Someone that you claim is an isk seller has just lost a billion. You seem to be a champion against isk sellers, so tell me, whats the sum total of the damage that YOU'VE done to any isk sellers?
The way I see it, if it is an ISK seller, he's just been subjected to natural justice. (And if he isn't, tough ****... its my money now Dave.) ---- Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*coughcough*aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrr!! |

I think the main reason people are suggesting that you petition this is because there is a tendency on the part of some GM's to not dig into the issue, and simply assume the worst, earning you a ban. Its not your problem rather than theirs and the burden of proof is on you.
That's the main issue. Filing your petition would be an extra layer of protection for you in the event there is an overzealous GM involved in the future. If, three weeks by now, a GM is investigating the character that this isk came from, and he/she sees that you didn't have a problem with the transfer, that will get his attention.
In a perfect world you would have no problems, in the real world... Well... Sometimes its easier to take the ten minutes to fill out the petition.
Yes... If I found an extra 1,000 dollars in my bank account, I would definatly try to figure out where it came from, because if a mistake was made, its not my money, and the bank has the right to correct errors. If they go back to get the money and its not there... Could they raise the issue that you stole money that wasn't yours?

Blimey! I wouldn't bother petitioning it Marchocias. I would think Candice and Seeing Eyedog have already done it for you " Dear GM its not fair, someone else got teh billionz and I didn't. If you don't get it back and ban them or give me a billionz too I R going to quit!11!1!11!!! BOOHOO!"
If you get any comback from a GM, which as it was a market transaction I doubt, just link this post for them. Job done
Sherriane Sho FYI if the bank make an error and deposit $1000 into your account they cannot just simply take it back. If you spend it there is no way they can prosecute you for theft. In these situations the bank would write this off and take the hit.

Not true. Not that it matters much since this is a game but this was found on a government Q/A banking site:
********************* A deposit was credited to my account by mistake. Does the bank have to get my permission before removing the funds?
No. If the funds are credited to your account in error, the bank doesn't need your permission to remove funds. The bank may correct the error by exercising its legal right of off-set. This right allows a national bank to charge your account for a debt owed to the bank.
To correct this error, the bank must remove the funds from your account and deposit them into the correct account.
^ Back to Top ^ A deposit was credited to my account by mistake. Can the bank freeze the account?
Yes. The bank may freeze the account to ensure that no funds are withdrawn before the error is corrected. Or the bank may place a hold on the deposit.
************************** Personally, I'd suggest leaving a 'paper trail' too just in case it did turn out to be bought isk, but that's just me. Or at the very least, what someone suggested and not spend it for a few weeks in case. Other than that, enjoy your new found wealth!
*runs off to place lots of random sell orders* :)

Petition it first to double check.
What has very likely happened, is you had something on a sell order for... whatever.
He's either:
1) right clicked on one of the moronic 34985908046840568948906 isk for 1 unit of tritanium/shuttle/1 missile sell orders
OR
2) set up a buy order for a billion and not a million
and the isk ahs gone to you.
I don't get why people put the 34050-5934-593405935389475 isk sell orders up - the isk ALWAYS goes to the person with the lowest sell order at the same station; this is to prevent people way over pricing stuff and to prevent successful money laundering.
So... yeah, the isk is yours, unless it's been "bought" - so petition and if you're allowed to keep it, keep it.
the other week, someone accidently put up a buy order for 46 BILLION isk for a low grade snake beta (or delta) implant - I was actually the second cheapest sell order at the time and missed out on this - but whoever was the cheapest - the 46 billion went to that guy who was selling it for 46 million - stuff like this does happen.
And I wish I'd updated my orders before i left work cos it happened during the time I left work and the time I got home.
Very annoyed :D --

Edited by: Jimi Tetro on 17/09/2008 15:45:34 Considering the item involved and the fact it is several orders of magnitude out I would assume this is isk laundering rather than a typo.
Like many I would recommended petitioning the isk as if CCP decide you are part of the isk laundering ring, you will be banned.
Petitioning is the much safer option and as you seem reluctant to do this something in my head says you are not telling us the truth.
Maybe this post is intending to try and obtain an alibi in advance for when you are caught.

To the OP:
I'd be very careful with this if I were you and petition it. I was the victim of a similar situation some months ago and like you, I decided to just keep the ISK and be done with it. Bad move. A few months later, I log on to find I have a massive negative wallet, the likes of which nearly convinced me to quit EVE.
Without going into details, my petitions were essentially unheeded and I was forced to sell most of my assets to regain a positive wallet. Trust me when I say you'd be doing yourself a favor by petitioning the transaction because at the end of the day, CCP could give a **** about whether or not you're involved in ISK laundering. They will simply remove the ISK with little discussion on the matter.

There is no way that this would be an isk seller or farmer. They would be well aware of the basic game mechanics that relate to their business, and wouldn't make such a newb mistake. My guess that it is someone moving isk too/from a trial account. How old are the two characters involved? If not it's probably someone trying to put in an extra layer of security after buying isk. Can't see much point in petitioning it though. Just leave it in a mental folder marked 'pension fund' for now.

No need to waste time. I petitioned it for you. I told the GM there was a player on the forum who was trying to cover an isk/RL transaction by claiming innocent. I gave them the URL for this thread. I'm sure there will be a hefty isk removal in your future and a very tiresome process of trying to get it reversed. Next time report it on your own, it would have taken you less time than it took to make posts here.
