As far as I'm aware, a tech 1 strip miner takes about 12000 cpu, and a tech 2 takes about 13,200. Mining barges get a special 99.9(65?) reduction in the cpu requirements, so I don't THINK you could fit it on a Bestower. I may have the numbers slightly wrong (maybe I'm thinking of Ice harvesters), but I'm pretty sure the concept is the same.

In theory you could put strip miners on a ship other then a barge, but in reality no ship has the 12,000CPU needed to pull off such a feat, so no, you can't put a strip miner on a non barge.

A month for what? You canuse retriever ,you need mining barge 3 and astrogeology 4 and industry 5 ,i think only problem is industry 5 for retriever if you have not got yet

... do you not have any learning skills trained and an int/mem of 3 or something? Is it even possible to take 49 days to train a rank 1 skill to level 5? ---

49 days for a rank 1 skill to V? Go directly to learning skills... do not pass Go, do not collect 200 isk.
Seriously, it will help you in the long run.

There are 2 learning skills for each attribute, one a rank 1, and one a rank 3 that requires the rank 1 to level IV. Start with Instant Recall which will increase your memory. All the rank 1 learning skills use memory as the primary. Then do Analytical Mind which will raise your intelligence. While you are training those, download EveMon and check out the rest...

If your attributes are that jacked up - seriously how the hell is it a 49 day skill? - then your best bet is probably to re-roll at this point and choose a character more suited to mining. I'm assuming you've not been playing particularly long so this shouldn't be a massive loss to you, and will benefit you in terms of training time immensely. ___

did you say you have been playing EVE since launch and you have yet to train any learning skills other than "Learning".
This must be the best Troll EVAH!!! Or you rode the short spaceship to school.
If it is true you are probably looking at a missing 30 Mil skill points compared to where you would be if you had trained at least all tier 1 and all tier 2 to a level of 3 or 4.
I personally don't have to worry about Learning skills, I have trained all Tier 1 and 2 to 5. Unless they bring in new learning skills (please don't).

Ash has not been playing since launch, but said they played a lot at launch. According to bio, took a long break and is just now getting back into the game. I think Ash is right... I don't think they did have all the learning skills back then.

Sorry, my bad ; ]
Yes the learning skills are very useful for speeding up your training! Though it can be a pain in the rear to force yourself to keep steadily working them up as they have no direct bearing on what you can shoot/fit/fly, but instead make those steps faster for you.
Its like putting money in the bank and trying to gain interest on it, when you would rather be spending it on shoes and clothes ; ]

900 skill points?
Seriously new characters created now starts off with so so much more.
Do a test on a spare character slot and see what you can come up - there are templates around the internet that lists the best choices to make at each stage depending on your profession.
If you haven't trained any skill for the last three to four years, it's not a hardship at all. The bonus is that the current character can trade all the assets and isk over to any new character you make and enjoy.
There are now 11 learning skills to train. New characters get at least three of them I think. But still, run some tests, make a note of all your skills on your current character and see how much the new characters can get. Also the tutorials have been improved a great deal as well, this also gets you to a better frigate much much sooner, by having better rewards and more expensive bounties. The minimum rat bounty back then was 100isk - now it's more like a few thousand.
Are you a troll? Life is about memories the more the better.

This man tells the truth, I think the minimum a new character starts out with is 200 Thousand skill points.

Edited by: Sidrat Flush on 17/09/2008 19:54:24 so you have less than a million skill points yet you are over 4 years old.
I'd start a new character if I were you. The game has changed a lot over said time and refreshing the old knowledge wouldn't go amiss either.
The tutorials are better than they were, the rats are better than they were and really you won't lose a darn thing.
good luck.
ps - new characters can start with up to 900K skill points or so, but that's not as important as knowing the exact skills a trader/miner character comes out with on day one. Write down your current skill list. Create a new character, use a template if you want to - that will get you the best attributes with the best starting skills for your chosen profession. Again good luck. Life is about memories the more the better.

As stated in a post above, there are 2 skills for each attribute. And yes you get 1 point per level for each skill, for a maximum possible +10 to each attribute. The 4.5m isk skillbooks you are looking at require the basic to be trained to lv 4 anyway, so you should buy the cheap ones and get the basic skills training asap.

Edited by: testyperson on 17/09/2008 20:55:44 If it's true that you got 900.000 Skillpoints then you'd might want to know that it's around that amount completely new characters start with these days (just made a char to test it, ~812k SP at creation). So unless you got any specific reason to stick with your current character then it might be an idea to restart with some more balanced attributes (either aiming for having all stats equal or all stats equal and minimum charisma)
(edit; well... first time i've had 2 chars on an account, and i manage to post with the wrong one ^_^)

As a general note, if you've got only one account, work for an all-rounder so you can play anything without logging off. If you're rich enough to get multiple accounts that's a good time to specialize.

Industry 5 should be ten or so days with no learning.
INDUSTRIAL 5 can take a while if you have low learnings.
You want the first one.
