So I know there are a few of us from Chicago or the close by Midwestern area and I know that most things in our RL's slow down come Jan/Feb (and we could get a lower price on a room rental, cause we ain't doing it at my house), so I'm putting out a feeler to see who'd be up for our own little EVE Fest here in Chicago, come early 2009. I really wanted to go to Iceland in Nov., but money is a little tight, as I'm sure is the case for more than a few people currently.
So here's the deal. I'm not taking any money, reservation, or what not right now, I just want to know who would actually think about showing up, and since we'd more than likely need a room (not with beds & candle lights) at some hotel or reception hall/conference center, or maybe just a bar, what would you like to do.
1.Post here if you would be up for a gathering. Email me at [email protected] as well if you want.
2.Tell me what you'd be interesting in doing at the event;
a.Meet & greet with a bar
b.hook up an internet connection and do some in game competition
c.both A & B and why don't you try to get some EVE celebrities like Tony Gonzales, Winterblink, or some one from CCP to show up.
d.randomly rove around the city and Goonswarm anybody playing WoW at an internet cafe
3.Feel free to suggest anything I haven't thought of.

Alright between forum posts, in game and real life convo's I've had it looks like so far we have at least a dozen people.
Best thing to do is keep gettig the word out to anybody you know that is within 100 (maybe 150 miles of Chicago), I'm sure by the end of Nov. beginning of Dec. we easily have 2 dozen or more.

Had a few people ask about bringing their girlfriends or wives, and maybe setting up a Sisters of Eve type function for them.
Post up here or email me if you have a lady friend you might be bringing with.

Alright I need to put a date on this and wanting it to be as succesful as possible I've decided to shot for early March and hope we get a warm weekend.

Well we could go all out and have a mini fan fest, try to lock down a sponsor or two, rent out a hall and get some boxes in there for a pew pew tourney for awards and such, but that would involve somebody putting their neck out financially and then taking money up front from people who would attend.
It could be something that could happen next year if we get a good turn out, but really we'd need a reason beyond pew pew to get people to pay to show up. Right now we got beer and hooters.

We have 2 Chicago pilots and about 5 Illinois pilots.

We'll be looking at a 7pm start time
Since, we won't being doing any Eve playing at the meetup, I'm suggesting a 1v1 tournament to name a Chicago area champ. maybe get a Game Time Code or Eve T-shirt for the winner and we can have a raffle for everybody who shows up for one of those items as well.

Working out the final details right now, but if everything goes as planned this will happen at the Hooters off of I-90 by O'Hare on the very NW tip of Chicago.
Parking, available space without renting a private room and the option to have player under 21 able to attend were key factors. And we all know deep down chicks love the geeks, so what better way to assure we get a warm receptions from our waitress. LOLZ

Just have to say guys I had a blast tonight. For those of you who didn't show we ended up staying from 6pm till past 11pm.
Much Thanks to The Pitboss, as well as everybody who came out.
Please check back here I'll be posting links to the photos from the event.
Look forward to doing this again, even bigger next time, now that we know can get the numbers out.
