The Amarrian people have been facing the depredations of the Demon for thousands of years. The ways this manifests itself have always been similar. Deceit, treachery, and blasphemy are the weapons of the Deceiver. The goal of this monster: to destroy everything the Amarrian people hold sacred and to reverse the plan of God.
That the hand of he Matari "Elders" and Shakor, the newly appointed dictator of the Matari insurrection, have demonstrated from the start of this war that they represent the newest head of this ancient hydra.
Their craven surprise attack upon the Amarrian Empire represents the single most heinous act of deception in human history. They spat upon the hand of peace, offered by the Pious and Wise Emperors Doriam II and Heideran VII, and they launched a deceitful campaign of aggression that cost millions of lives in a single day.
The goal of their campaign is exactly the same goal the minions of demonic power have always sought; to destroy the Empire of God and defecate upon His holy places.
Thousands of brave pilots are now locked in the struggle to reverse the effects of the Matari treachery and to bring these evildoers to justice. These forces have begun to reverse the ill gotten gains of Shakor over the last months and with the help of God will continue to do so.
But perseverance and the support of all those who believe in all that is good is needed. This war will not be over quickly. We must push the barbarians back to their caves, as they have proven unfit to be treated with in peace. To do this we need the support of every last soldier of God and every lover of peace and justice.
Punish those who are responsible for the death that spans the stars. Show Shakor and his cronies that there is no tolerance in this universe for those who started this war.
We did not start this war, but, by His light and His will, we shall finish it.

Why should those of us who are not even human care about defecation on holy places. It is so much easier and, according to some non-converted crew, more aesthetically pleasing to set it on fire and watch it burn to ash.

Neither the Thukker nor the Elders have ever promised the Amarr Empire peace.
Before the Rebellion, the Amarr mounted an organised campaign of assassination and brutal murder against the Elders. That any survived, hidden away in the empty depths of the Great Wildlands, came as a surprise to all of us. But that their first move, once they revealed themselves, was to strike at the Amarr Empire, shouldn't shock anyone.
But what did they really do when they came forth? They hit at the worst centres of oppression and slavery in the Empire, spread Insorum in planetary atmospheres, grabbed as many slaves as possible...
And left.
We cannot say, of course, what the fleet that died in Sarum would have done, unless someone is claiming to be psychic, but as for the rest of their ships, they took our people - their people - and went home.
So tell me how this was born in deceit? What Matari power could promise you immunity to justice for what the Empire has done, when the Matari have no higher power than the Elders. Had your ancestors not been so keen to eradicate the history, the religion, the lore and the power the Elders respresented, you might have had someone to actually negotiate with.
And if you had ever obtained such an agreement, you could call this a betrayal. Whether it would be of the same magnitude as, say, demanding a peace treaty with the Republic and then continuing to raid for slaves across the border... well, that's debatable.
And by "debatable", I mean "No, it isn't".
The truth is, the agenda of the Matari remains as it has always been: The reunion of our people, our family. The best way to ensure that it goes no further than that, is to put down your whips, and so take ours away.
I leave you with one final thought:
When the ears hear only The mouth shouting And the eyes see only The fingers broken The world has turned And God has gone Left us with fond memories Of sweet life without pain.

The problem you have is that the peace treaty was with the Republic, formed of four tribes out of seven: the Brutor, the Sebiestor, the Krusual and the Vherokior.
The "Elder fleet" came from the lands of the Thukker. Had the Republic government of the time had any knowledge of it, do you really think Prime Minister Midular would have fired Ambassador Yun?
Then they struck, and they struck hard.
Politically, what effectively happened next was the dissolution of the Republic as we knew it at the time, with its citizens defecting en masse to a new entity - a united body of the seven tribes, of which Shakor has just been crowned San Matar.
Seven tribes, only four of which had previously been bound by a treaty - and that treaty was broken by the Amarr almost the night it was signed.
Originally by: Gaven Lok'ri
...As for their actions:
First: They used insorium, a known maddening agent, in their attack. In other words, they wished to create mass destruction, at the expense of the now dead unarmed slaves who died in the rioting and after the "elders" had to leave the field. Second: They only retreated after their advance had been decisively defeated. Pretending they wanted less than a complete crippling attack on Amarr is deceitful at best.
The "maddening" effect of which you speak is much more likely to be Vitoc, a psychoactive drug, and simple human cruelty, Gaven. After all, your own people inhaled the Insorum too. That those left behind paid a heavy price for their brethren's freedom, I do not dispute, but this fleet only had the one chance to save as many as possible.
As for the question of a crippling attack, yes. Of course they wanted enemy forces crippled and out of the fight. When you are carrying civilians to safety, you do not leave ships and armaments lying around that can destroy their transports and kill the thousands inside when they are but a breath away from freedom.
Originally by: Gaven Lok'ri
The reality is that the Elders are nothing more than a gimmick by Shakor's supporters to take over the Republic and launch the most brutal surprise attack in history.
Perhaps, but it does not change the fact that your claims of attempted genocide are, by the evidence so far, grossly exaggerated.
And it doesn't change the fact that you are holding our people prisoner.
Let them go and then shout to me of your innocence, of the hardships and injustice you endure.

To elaborate:
This: When the ears hear only The mouth shouting And the eyes see only The fingers broken The world has turned And God has gone Left us with fond memories Of sweet life without pain.
Is from a prophecy concerning the end of time. The Apocalypse. It is actually relevant to this thread, for it is exactly what the souls of Evanda and Kai will be experiencing.
The Faithful, however, have a different destiny. From the same book:
At the end of days when they descend Watch for the coming of the Ark For within it Salvation is carried.
When God's work in this universe is done, the Faithful will leave it. Only those who are not among the elect have a future of eternal pain to look forward to. I am not exactly sure what you were attempting to do with that scripture, as unless you like reminding yourself of your future I fail to see what point you were making.

Gods, transcendentalists.
It's not the belief in an "invisible man in the sky" that makes this line of belief so often such a headache for the rest of us. It's that you draw your moral authority from something outside the universe, something that not only can't be seen or felt, but whose dictates supersede any moral impulse that is of this world.
I don't claim to be the sort being who can declare the divine Truth of any god, nor am I even a very "good" being in any conventional, human sense, Mr. Lok'ri, but let me at least remind you of something since you insist upon sticking your vision of the end of all things in our collective face:
You are tainted.
Your body has been cloned, your mind transferred, your soul damaged, which, as I understand it, means you'll be stuck here with the rest of us heretics and heathens. On the extremely off chance that you do turn out to be right about your God and His intentions, we can look forward to your continued presence among us for a goodly long time.
I wonder what state you'll be left in.
After this little piece of self-congratulation on your part, I must say it would just about be worth it to find out.

That's more or less what I meant, my dear Gaven. But the difference is, you believe your people to be faithful, to be doing the will of God.
At least that's what you tell yourself. But I can't help but wonder, when you look at the people around you - at your dead Empress, at the Holders on your planets, even at the staff who run your SPCS facilities, do you really believe that they're doing it for the betterment of Man? Can you believe that of every single one?
Any member of Amarr society can be handed total power over another human being, and it's simply human nature to abuse power, especially when it can be done with impunity. Slave-holding can benefit someone economically through cheap labour, can bolster the ego of the lowest member of society by placing someone beneath them, can let someone vent their own impotence through cruelty - do you really believe that Amarr society is immune to these pitfalls?
Or are those who shout loudest of their virtue, their adherence to the will of god, of their benevolent bestowing of enlightenment just doing it to drown out the whimpering, the cries of the people they grind beneath their heels? Do you yourself deliberately block your ears to the reality and just listen to their vocal claims?
And likewise, you speak here about these "great injustices" inflicted on your people, the injuries done to you, but you don't look at all at your Empire's history of conquest and rapine, the many nations brought to heel under the lash, the "surpise attacks" and undeclared wars that have started with the Empire, your own nation's violations of the very treaties it proposed, the way it pushes for the upholding of only one side.
You see only the injury, and I understand that, I really do. The pain closest to home is the most immediate, and no one likes to look at themselves when the time comes to appoint blame.
But if the world turns, can you really look at your own nation and see anything other than the very demon you describe?

Quote: doing it for the betterment of Man?
They are doing it to bring Man closer to God's will. .
As for your complaints about our empire: We have never hidden behind lies and surprise attacks. Despite what your "tradition" says of us. Yes I know you have that myth about the "day of darkness", but it contradicts every other reality of the Matari conquest. We declared war, came in directly and the Matari people were outmatched.
Now, if we want to get into this blame game the answer is far less simple than you would make it. If we trace the first crime, we will end up on the homeworld.
The first crime of the Matari people was the decision on the homeworld to abandon God. Your far distant ancestors forced ours into exile, if you want to go into ancient history.
But I do not wish to dwell on ancient history. I wish to dwell on the here and now.
The reality of the last century is that Amarr has offered peace on an unprecedented scale (even the Gallente recognized this as they gave Emperor Heideran their peace prize) while the Matari people, in return, have offered death on an unprecedented scale.
The current regime of the Matari people seized power through lies and brutal force aimed at their own people as well as at the Amarrian people. The Elders are a myth, a lie made up to legitimize the takeover of the Matari people by Shakor.
Try and spin it as you will; but the Matari people are the ones who started this war with their assault on CONCORD itself.

And again...
Evanda: Do you concede the possibility that someone, somewhere, is ruling not out of faith but out of desire for power alone? GodSlave Lok'ri: It's not a contradiction for someone to enjoy having power and yet also be faithful.

Honestly, Kai, if you have to resort to that kind of slippery behaviour just to try and scrounge together some semblance of an argument, perhaps it's time to start considering the possibility that you might be wrong?
I'm not saying that you ARE, necessarily - I've never like PIE's philosophy either - but if there's one thing I can't stand it's a bad arguer. You win arguments by being right, not by ignoring what the other side is actually saying and instead debating with the warped version inside your own head. If memory serves, what you're doing is called a "straw man" argument.
They have answered for themselves in saying that they, personally, feel no doubt, which is what Ms. Char actually asked them. She did not ask whether they conceded the possibility of other holders acting out of greed for power, rather than faith. I make no judgment calls on whether or not they were truthful in their assertion of faith, only that they answered the question they were asked, not the one you just made up.
So allow me to ask, gentlemen: Do you concede the possibility that someone, somewhere, is ruling not out of faith but out of desire for power alone? -

This arena game you try to pass off as a war won't end for as long as the leaders on every side can milk it for racist sentiment - and it could take a good, long time before that well is dry.
In moral terms, this is evil fighting evil, and regrettably, it's liable to only result in the corruption of yet another generation of youth on all sides.

God theory:
If god created all...then one has to question the purpose. If he was alone, then created all matter...was he simply lonely?
If god was all powerful and all knowing and his plan was to give mankind a choice...why?
If he was this omnipotent being, why not skip all the fanfare and fast forward to the end result? The end result of course being his sublime design realized.
It is a comfortable and easy life to simply push off responsibility for your humanity on the whim of your imagined god creation. You can write any god book you need to justify your inhuman actions and chalk it up as simply gods will.
If this "god" was the one who created all...meaning "we" all came from god...then he gives us a choice. Heaven, or hell. Remember he has created heaven and hell. So if we (HIM, as we come from god) are good, then we go to heaven (which he created) when we die. If we (HIM, as we come from god) are bad, then we go to hell ( which he created) to burn for our (his) sins.
If this god was perfect, why create us on purpose without his perfections? Is this "god" in need of drama? Is this god simply lonely and in need of a good laugh?
This "god" could have avoided all bloodshed and saved all creation the bother of our existence by simply creating everything as perfect...booring huh?
Your shallow life is hatched out of the ideas of mortal man which (god craft beginnings) has been so far removed by time that you take the comfortable route of "never questioning gods plan".
You are puppets with no freedom and no recourse other than to continue to shuffle along in your imagined "holy path".
If your god really did exist (other than your imagination), it seems he does not have control over his creations...why is that?
This implies your god is something less than supreme and all knowing...fallible...as if he tried hard and failed harder. It is clear your less than perfect "god" favors blind faith...anything less and his "idea" gets watered down rather quickly. A society based on blind faith would be short lived society indeed if people were able to think for themselves and simply find their own truth.
How does that feel slave?
Deceiver?
You have seen the enemy...and it is you.
Your god seems more like a lonely scientist that lost his way...trying computations and ideas to figure out some identity for itself.

The heretic is right though.
They will live for an eternity, and so will we.
I must say I find this thought comforting. In a few centuries, when there is the Pax Amarr, I will still be there to watch them burn for their every single sin.
Repeatedly.
You have but one choice, lay down your arms, surrender yourself to justice and try to atone for your sins, and those of your ancestors, while you still can.

Hah, amusing. If you think she was asking what is literally there, then I'm afraid the rhetoric is going over your head.
Ms. Char is not so stupid as to be asking, literally, if everyone but the PIE GodSlaves are faithless, power-hoarding despots. I think even the most demented of Matari freedom fighters would concede that many act out of faith and not some desire for power.
But hey, if you want to put on your Caldari lawyer suit and claim the words should only be understood literally then go for it, just try not to in the same breath, accuse me of engaging in slippery behavior - hypocrisy doesn't suit someone like you.

Huh. And here was me thinking I was being characteristically blunt and unsubtle.
If you're going to ask a question, ask the bloody question. Don't ask a completely different question and expect the people you're questioning to suddenly manifest telepathic abilities and answer the one you wanted them to.
Anyway, you're doing it again. What ms. Char asked was: "Do you, personally, ever feel any doubt". You're quite right, she indeed did not ask whether everyone but PIE are faithless, power-hoarding despots.

Goodness, you make me sound so bad! Why don't you get this worked up over what your buddies in the Empire get up to, hmm? They don't just put words in people's mouths darling, they put gags and well...other things too, I am sure. That bother you? If it does then speak out about it because, let's be honest here, relative to them I'm not really doing much wrong and if I am, Evanda can spank me or tell me to shut up (I hope it's the former).
Anyhow, it's not like you need telepathy to see what the real question was. It wasn't "don't you doubt" period. It was "don't you doubt THAT..." followed by the stuff I already outlined. This isn't quantum physics my dear Mr. Stitcher, no need to make it out to be something so terribly confusing that it gets your panties in a twist worrying about my credibility.

What can I say? I'm an old-fashioned soul with a bugbear about honesty and integrity.
The real question, for the record was, quote: "You are sincerely telling me that you never once feel a single shiver of doubt that maybe you're the only one who believes that line and everyone else is just enjoying the lordship?". I apologize for trimming it down slightly earlier.
It's called a "hypothetical scenario", Kai. she's asking whether they, personally, feel doubt about the intentions of all other holders. They said "no". Their denial does not mean that they think ALL holders are honest, it just means that they don't think all holders are dishonest. This does not imply a universal faith in the integrity of the Holders - which would be stupid - just that they don't think they are the only ones who are motivated by faith.
Let's not run away with the conclusions, here. Any halfway reasonable human being - and to be fair to them, neither Mr. Blake nor Mr. Lok'ri have ever given me reason to doubt that they are at least halfway reasonable - will naturally accept that some holders will be corrupt, and some will be virtuous. I assume that that's what they meant, though obviously I'd prefer it if one of them were to return to the discussion and confirm my assumption.
in any case, we're digressing from the original point, namely:
Quote: Hah, look at them scrambling for a way to dodge that one!
Now try again guys, except this time, answer the question you were asked eh?
to which I responded:
Quote: ... from where I'm sitting, it looks like they did. Admittedly, they made the mistake of using purple prose where a simple "yes" would have sufficed, but they still answered the question.
I maintain that they directly answered the question they were asked. The issue here is not what the question was, but whether or not they actually answered it, which I still contend that they did. -

Would you care to elaborate on exactly how the Amarr broke that treaty, perhaps?
Your arguments are rather . . . interesting, and I would like to reply to them in more detail, unfortunately, I am pressed for time at the moment and need to look up certain points of law before I do so. But in the meantime, if you would explain exactly how the Amarr broke the treaty, I can deal with that at the same time. ________________________________ This is not a signature. |

I really don't know what point you're trying to make.
I imagine that you're trying to tempt us to say that no Holder has ever made a mistake and then you'll dredge up some historical example of a noble falling from grace and then claim that because of that everything we've ever said is wrong. That would be the normal tactic of your type.
Has every single Holder since the establishment of the Empire been perfect? Of course not. But where corruption and Godlessness rear their ugly heads in the Empire, they are rooted out ruthlessly, and one only needs to look at the history of the Republic and the Federation to realise that corruption in those nations is far worse than in the Empire.
The Empire has a zero tolerance to corruption, and it's this policy that has made it the most successful nation in human history.
As the Scriptures tell us, not only do we need to defeat the enemies of the outside, we also need to control the ememies of the inside. However, the subject of this particular discussion is quite clearly the enemies of the outside.

You're engaging in something unforgivably and unmistakably intentional and you know perfectly well what point Kai is making here. Those who watch from the sidelines, you countless millions clinging to this man's words, I ask of you; pay close to attention. Do not let it pass you by. This is not something far more excusable like a mere unintended misinterpretation or misunderstanding.
It's impressive as it is dangerous, actually. That much I will grant. Your corporation's aptitude for wordplay and spin is almost elevated to an art form as you re-paint attacks made against you into something far weaker. Not only that, but you possess a well-refined ability to paint the most bleak of truths up as something far less significant - this you do invariably.
She parrots the words back.
"Has every single Holder since the establishment of the Empire been perfect? Of course not."
That's about as watered down as an admission as it can get, as you and your type dare speak in such a public forum. Then, with conspicuous swiftness to those used to and yes, weary of such things, you move on to a far more extensive diatribe about how your corrupt Empire stamps these things out.
The truth is Rodj, that your Empire is not as pious as you would like it to be, it is not as religious as you would like it to be - as you may even truly believe it to be. The truth is Rodj, that your Empire is just as corrupt as any other, if not moreso because the age old institution of religion shouts down those who would question power with more ruthlessness and zero tolerance than those who employ less binding ideologies would dare to.
Kai needn't do any dredging to show the truth of something so evident. When an edict as holy as the Shathol'Syn is sacrificed for political expediency in plain view of countless observers, she doesn't need to dig around for antiquated anecdotes. When your Chamberlain and self-professed Guardian of the Throne, arbiter of God's will, falls from his position of power and prestige in such a way as he has, she has no need to draw upon some ancient and insignificant historical example.
Most importantly, she has no desire in pointing these things out, to use them to support some absurd claim that everything PIE has ever said is wrong, or that there is nothing of merit in your Empire. She and I both are no fans of extremes, nor are we engaging in some second-rate, point scoring propaganda. I understand how you would wish that were so.
Re-frame it in the most palatable language you like, Rodj. Dodge and weave as you will but language alone cannot hide truth forever, and the truth is that your Empire is corrupt. The truth is that your faith is as much a political tool as it is a sustaining, uplifting belief in a grand mythology that yes, at times empowers and inspires people to act in admirable ways. There is as much of one as there is of another. I have seen enough in these dark times to confidently claim that there is more of one than the other in recent years, and this trend will only continue onwards as true change and honest dialogue is stymied by you and yours.
The subject may very well be the enemies outside, but I think before you look beyond your own borders for enemies, you would be better served looking into your own tainted souls, the decaying elements of your own corrupted Empire. It is rotting from within and the sooner you admit it with the honesty your religion holds aloft as a virtue, the sooner we can end this pathetic, laughable charade of wordplay and PR.
The sooner we can go about protecting what is worth keeping and shedding the rest.
Until you and yours do that, you will amount to nothing more than another parade of fools, all but blind to their own imperfection.

You have to consider two things.
Firstly, Matar was undergoing an ecological disaster when the Golden Fleet arrived to rescue the inhabitants.
Secondly, we Amarrians don't plan things out in terms of weeks, months or even years, but rather in centuries and millenia.
Let us look at the fate of the Ni-Kunni. When we first encountered them they were a primitive people. I'm sure that some of them resisted our efforts to enlighten them, but in the long run the benefits are obvious - the Ni-Kunni have been elevated and are now a highly civilised people. All through the institution of slavery.
And so it is with the Minmatar. They were in need of our help when we enocountered them. Not only was their homeworld becoming uninhabitable, they had turned also their backs on God, and we took it upon ourselves to bring them back into the fold as is our duty. Our methods may appear to be unkind to some, and they may not always be pleasant, but sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. It will be worth it in the long run, not only for the Empire, but also for the Minmatar people.
So to answer your question, yes, the Day of Darkness was the act of peaceful, civilised beings.

The "Day of Darkness" is a relic of matari oral history and is entirely out of touch with what actually happened in the first Matari-Amarran war.
The biggest storm ever and an invasion force consisting of exactly one freighter per planet with escort on the same day?
Does that sound logical to you? Or perhaps what we have is the oral tradition theme of linking storms to events considered bad, and the oral tradition simplification of events into the stark images in the modern version of the tale.
Really, though. arguing over who had fault first is irrelevant to the events of today. As I said earlier, if we want to look for the first sin, we can go back all the way to the expulsion of the faithful from the homeworld.
What is relevant is that the Amarrians offered peace for over a century. That we were content to let the Matari have their republic in peace while we built our empire in peace. Not a single Amarrian or Matari living today was there at the day of darkness. All of us were there for the Peace.
We offered peace. The Matari took that peace, spent it diverting funds into a secret navy, and then stabbed those who offered peace squarely in the back while at the same time launching a hostile takeover of the Matari Republic.
No amount of spin can make that justified.

An ideology or religion does not constitute a race, nor does a government. As usual, Blake, your arguments fall flat. Your pathetic carnival sideshow of a corporation never ceases to amuse me.
My point was that if your associate were truly motivated by wanting to abolish our religion or ideology, he would be able to elucidate why he wants to see the Empire burn.
However, since he says that he has no reason, we can take that to mean that in fact he wants to see the Empire burn for a reason that he dare not admit to.
Or possibly because he's an insane psychopath. But you wouldn't employ someone like that, now would you?

They were in need of our help when we enocountered them.

Not only was their homeworld becoming uninhabitable, they had turned also their backs on God...

yes, the Day of Darkness was the act of peaceful, civilised beings.
You know... I had something I wanted to say to this, but I laughed so hard reading this that I can't recall what it was. Your in need of help Blake, really massive mental help, if you honestly believe what you just wrote...
Boy, that was... that's really sets a new level of rich, even for you.
You really should look at the whole of my statement rather than just cherry-picking parts of it.
Context is a marvellous thing.
I did look at the whole, read it even, but the contents of that transmission was just... humorous, to the extreme. I merely picked out the parts that made me laught the loudest. If I were not pressed on time at this moment, I'd work out a reply to your post. Also, I've stil to overcome the marvelous humor of it all.
*Chuckes to himself* ...rescue the inhabitants...*laughts*
Oh man, I should go do what I got to do before I get stuck re-reading you message again.
((OOC: Honestly, that was hillarious, even if you did not mean for it to be. Brightened up an otherwise dull day, thanks :P Really, go to go now, bbl.))

Actually, Orun is the one person whose employment is not up to me. Well, technically it is, but if I want to receive funding from the LeHane family back on Intaki Prime, they insist that he sit on the board of directors. Besides, I find that sometimes his witty invective can say something far more effectively than my drawn-out explanations. For instance, everyone knows that you're almost always wrong, but whereas I feel bound to provide a detailed explanation as to why that is, he isn't really bound by this self-expectation and can just let off with some of those brilliant one-liners he seems to save up for just this sort of thing.
Besides, he's my cousin. Who'd kick their own cousin out of their corporation? -----
