I really REALLY like the Amarr one, it's the best of the bunch I think (not because I'm Amarr).
From the looks of the background its highly magnified as you can see the individual fibres on the paper they are setting on. Probably somewhere in size between a dime and a quarter.
I'd like to place a bid for 1x Amarr medallion: $500,000,000 isk.
edit: or maybe not.

Good stuff, I think I'd actually wear the Gallente one. What's nice about these is that they look good as proper ornamental pendants you'd have around say your neck without necessarily having to be associated with EVE or any cultural statement at all - they just look good with interesting designs. Dunno if I'd want them in silver though, would probably look just as good in any other metal and be cheaper too? --- RBJ |

Also, a silver chain holding the golden true-amarr insignia but only the "sharp talons" of the logo.
Gotta get those made at a jewellery though

Well there's been a bunch more replies since I last made one. I'm pretty amazed by the positive response.
So, I'll try to answer and address everything said since my last post.
First off, Mr. Friendly. This experience has made me realise how slow CCP is in such matters, but I am not deterred. I understand they are a corporation, but I had hoped to reach people within that corporation, for any kind of response.
Pricing for my work begins at $40CAD and goes up based on the size of the piece and the amount of work involved. Pricing is very tentative at this point, as I sell my work in a very limited market, and do not know how well it would fare nationally/internationally.
Zeba, I have considered the prospect of trading my work for isk, but beyond having my EVE subscriptions paid for, it is not particularly appealing, since I am sinking my time and RL currency into my work. Also, since these pendants are either in Iceland somewhere, or lost in the bowels of the international parcel service, I cannot accept offers for any of them. There also remains the matter that I've had no response from CCP on this whatsoever, I am treading as softly as possible right now.
The other problem is that $500,000,000 ISK is slightly low in the pricing range when figured into RL currency. If I was producing on a larger scale, I might consider lowering prices to that range, as it is now, I would need to charge slightly more to make 'retailing' them worth my time.
These pendants are roughly the size of a Canadian Loonie (dollar coin) in diameter and thickness.
Terriana if you are interested in silver as a medium, the only thing I can say is go for it! Just play, and you will learn constantly. I am mostly self-taught, with no small amount of help from my aunt (a certified goldsmith) and my mom (she first learned from my aunt).
Mea Lustra, these pieces are relatively 'rough' yes, that is mostly due to their nature as prototypes, the very first of their kind. My work has progressed in quality since making them, and I have no doubt that if I were to make more today, they would be even nicer, and the quality would continue to improve with more production.
Tuttomenui, you are close there, but the standard rule is that your cost of materials must not exceed 30% of your retail price. The rest of the pricing is dependent on the market, and your skill level (a master silversmith should be paid more for their time than I, an apprentice).
Sheriff Jones, I would love to work in gold, but it is a far different medium from silver. I know for one thing that I would not be able to use the techniques I made these pendants with. Gold does not fuse well, so I would likely have to purchase casting equipment to produce replicas of existing pieces. That is a type of work I am not particularly fond of, I prefer to work directly with the metal as a medium, which makes each piece completely unique. It would be nearly impossible even if I tried, to make two exactly the same.
Paramite Pies, I have drawn up several different ship designs for pendant ideas (my favourites being the tristan, raven, thorax, and megathron) and it would be great fun to make pendants with your ship of choice. This is one of the main reasons this idea appealed to me, since there are so many different designs in EVE that would make excellent work.
Now, as for cost of materials, silver prices have gone up recently, so I cannot figure the materials cost for those four pendants. That being said, I am not charging very much for my time....barely more than most service jobs pay.
I do make rings, as mentioned before, and I decided to take a picture of the one I am fond of wearing now. It is made using similar techniques to the ones used in these pendants.

Suggestion: How about making dog-tags for faction warfare/roleplaying corps? Or to take it a step further, custom shinies (be it rings, pendants whatever, I don't know much about jewellery) for corps and alliances around EVE. I wouldn't mind say having an alliance symbol pendant.

Amazing work, hats off to you.
I would love to have a gold and silver piece, likely Amarr or Minmatar. I am about to make a suggestion based on watching "how it's made" on discovery channel, so if it's totally unrealistic and I'm dumb, just tell me. When they made rings and such things with gold, they made a mold out of wax, essentially allowing any and all shapes (if they could be carved from the wax). This would allow you to make whatever shapes you wanted. The problem would still be bonding the silver to the gold, and I won't even pretend I have a suggestion there.
If you were able to make a silver and gold pendant, sized 1" - 1.5", I would personally be willing to pay well ($100-150). (If that is too low, don't be afraid to tell me)
On a joking side note, you could just start selling them, CCP would get in contact with you very quickly, lol. Or they might not care.

Lex,
Just reading through your initial post and something jumped out at me when you mentioned about contacting CCP to see if they will work with you and sell your prducts. (Very nice btw.) I know its your own business and my hat is off to you, and I am not one to tell some one how to do there own business, so please take this as just something I learned in my own business in dealing with some very large retailers.
Before you send anything to anyone you need to do a lot of phone work. Identify the person who is to be making the decision. If you get a gate keeper, you have to keep trying. Get that gate keepers name and make a friend. Oh man I have spies every where by just doing that.
Also never send a rough Business Idea. Make it sharp, to the point and complete. You are the manufacturer/sales/shipping etc etc. You should show your prospect that you know what it is worth, how they are going to get it, how your prospect is going to make money, and how much you can produce in a given amount of time, and what is your turn around time for a given lot of product. Does one style take long er to produce than the other. More they know up front the less you have to explain while in the middle of closing the deal.
Also I would ask if someone is running the Store as on off site distributor. Another words, someone under contract that is not really attached to CCP but under the umbrella. They might have a different decision maker.
If you are not getting any head way make sure you get the OKDOKEY from CCP to sell it on your own. TM rights and all. Then once you have a good track record you can show them what it is all about and they can take it from there.
Also your responses in this thread is a great customer justification of your product. Use it.
You have a gift. And you do very good work. I am sure we will see it in the EVE stores soon.

That is an interesting question. If people can get eve tattoos, couldn't they commission a custom job that has a certain design from something or other with out the person they are getting it from breaking any laws?

This is an excellent question. If you went to a smith, who didn't know about EVE, with a faction design, and they made it custom for you, would that be infringement? If you had claimed you drew it or something? Asking out of real curiosity.

Edited by: Fink Angel on 25/09/2008 07:04:33 To the OP ... persevere with contacting CCP if you want permission to do this properly and get them into the CCP shop. In fact, try contacting White Wolf's marketing people too. It would help to come up with some business like things like cost per unit, but I'm sure they'll let you know what they need to know if they think the idea to make and sell them is sound.
A good few years ago over a pub lunch I talked to Nick Sainton-Clark (the guy who made the Eve ship models) about the feasibility of him looking at doing Eve models as I thought there might be a market for him.
I think it took around the two year mark from him making contact, to the models being available in the shop.
