Edited by: Sythyss on 25/09/2008 08:08:28 Just read the news about getting a tour of the CCP HQ this year at fanfest...apparently we email our bids. Just gettin' this straight...we don't get to see other players' bids at all? We just have to send in some random amount and hope we win? :(
lame.

well the money is for a charity....yeah, it's expensive, but I might consider it if I knew what I was betting against...throwing money away without knowing what you're against is just stupid. They want some moron to put tons of money into it to 'make sure' they beat everyone else.

no it's more like it's a test of how much you would give even if you didn't win, and the one that offers the most to childs play wins?
it's not about winning mate, it's about making kids in hospitals happy :)

iirc how it went last year was that, you put in your offer on how much you WILL pay, if you win. Only the winners paid iirc (but I am unsure about this one).
Pilot A bids $100 Pilot B bids $200
Pilot B wins and has to pay the $200, Pilot A didn't win and therefor don't have to pay. But if this is now how it went down with the fundraiser last year, feel free to correct me.

The Office Tour is part of the Silent Auction for Fanfest 2008 and abides by the same rules as the rest of the auction items. To participate you simply need to send a bid to [email protected] and then keep your fingers crossed that yours is the highest bid
The Childs Play charity is an amazing cause and everyone at CCP is proud to be a part in raising as much as we can to make a childs life a little better. The tour is an opportunity for you to see the inner workings of CCP courtesy of a tour from our CEO, Hilmar Veigar PTtursson.
The winner could even get a chance to meet me and that has to be worth a $1000 at least

I made a bid last year. I did not pay it, as I was not the winner. CCP never demanded that I paid. CCP never took the amount from my creditcard. So as far as I know, my bid last year was simply thrown away, since it was not the winning bid...
And to the OP: It kinda goes in the name "SILENT auction" that you don't get to see the amounts bid by others...

Just to clarify the point made by CrayC and Chribba, if you bid and you are not the winning bid you do not pay anything.
That said, there are still some amazing and unique prizes at the Silent Auction at Fanfest even if you do not win this one

Wait, isn't that the room that had to be sealed because it is posessed by the desynch demon? I heard terrible stories about it. :-|

Your unfamiliarity with the concept of a silent auction doesn't make it stupid. Practically every charity event that I've been to that has had an auction has made it a silent one.
What you get back for what you give is merely the icing on the cake, that's the idea.

I am really glad it goes to charity.
At first I thought: what moneymongers are this!
But, you should make it a price of a contest too, because otherswise only wealthy people will visit yer office, and they are mostly arrogant and not fun at all.
Invite me for instance! Show me the goods! (server park, bar, test machines, bar, geeks, bar, test-software, bar, sounds studio, bar, nice office ladies, bar, local bar, local club, etc :P) ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |

Yes we do, there is that room up on the fourth floor, next to the bathrooms.
That room does not contain any brooms, buckets, mops, detergent, sponges, rags, windex, marigold gloves or other cleaning implements. I think it got turned into a network switch room, judging by the amount of blinking lights, multicoloured cables and hamster food.
