There are three grade: small, medium and large.
Is it the case that the large are more effective against all ships, but are too slow to catch a moving frig/ fast cruiser ?
Or, is it horses for courses: that is to say use Large against BS, medium against cruiser/BC and small for frigs?
I would appreciate any guidance! Who's the rudest of them all! |

Your on the right track here, larges are more effective but slower, and you dedicate 125m3 of dronebay to fit a set of larges, using mediums is usualy the best way to go, they only take 50m3 dronebay for a set, leaving you with space for other types of drones. 2 larges != 5 mediums in effiency.(50m3 vs 50m3 ) Use 5 mediums. 5xmeds have iirc about 25%? chance to jam a bs =)

for ECM drones #s > strength, always use 5 ecm's over using less #s of the larger variety.
For example, against a geddon (lowest sensor strength, easiest to jam) EC-300's have a 5.5% chance to jam per drone, all 5 = 24.6% chance to jam per cycle EC-600's have a 8.3% chance to jam per drone, all 5 = 35.3% chance to jam per cycle EC-900's have a 11.1% chance to jam per drone, all 5 = 44.5% chance to jam per cycle
So you can see, while 1 large is twice as likely to jam a geddon as 1 light, because of how probability is calculated, 5 larges are not twice as likely to jam 5 lights. They are better, 80% better, but not twice as good. In addition, 1 Large takes up the same amount of dronebay/bandwidth as all 5 lights.
If you need best chance to jam at all costs, then use 5 larges, but keep in mind it's entirely random chance using them will not gurantee anything. But if you're looking for the most effective distribution, 5 lights or 5 mediums if you can carry them buys you more chance to jam for the m3. How to Fail at Eve

To illustrate your jam chances vs a Hurricane (non-ECCM and ECCM fit respectively): 5 lights: 27.58% chance of jam v non-ECCM, 14.959% chance of jam v ECCM 5 mediums: 38.87% chance of jam v non-ECCM, 21.735% chance of jam v ECCM 5 heavies: 48.71% chance of jam v non-ECCM, 28.1% chance of jam v ECCM
As you can see, 5 heavies do not give a double chance to jam over 5 lights. They don't scale the way, for instance, damage drones do.

On a 75 m^3 bay - would you go with 2x large 2x medium and 1x small ECM vs 5x medium drones?
Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

nah one set light ecm's and 5 hammerhead II's if you need that extra dps to break your targets tank. Or maybe 5 medium ecm's and 5 lights, if jamming is more important to you...
Well personally i hate having different drone speeds for recalling, and it's nice to still have some drones if your first set get popped.
