Thought I'd visit Guristas space last night as I'm quite keen to start early on a pirate-sympathetic career (maybe this is a bad idea in it of itself) but I didn't get particularly far, landed in M-OEE8 inside a bubble with a good 20+ pirates in attendance. My journey pretty much ended there
Not complaining about the death - I pretty much expected to run into problems somewhere along the route, however from looking at the map I couldn't see any way of getting to Guristas space without navigating through the M-OEE8 chokepoint (which would explain it being busy).
Genuinely curious as to how I would go about actually getting to pirate NPC space if you can't even get past the chokepoint? I suspect (though obviously I have no way of knowing) that the 0.0 space beyond that choke would've been relatively clear bar roaming gangs.... is that an incorrect assumption?
(FWIW I've never been to 0.0 previously)

Currently two of the largest 0.0 entities in eve(GBC and NC) are fighting over tribute, M-O is the entrance point. You guess why you died instantly.
You can get to venal(guristas space) through pureblind(ec- or 93p) and then going up through deklein as well.
Think you can do it through syndicate as well, but thats quite a detour.

That area is a warzone, so not going sightseeing there would have been a wise choice

There's an "easy way" to visit pirate space... but not very cheap nor always convenient.
Have an alt in your corp that has office placement rights move to that area. A newly created one in a noobship (so you lose nothing if you get killed) means you can attempt this even on AP while you do something else (results may vary depending where exactly you want to get). You might want to dock to station with medbays along the way and change medical clone location so you don't have to retrace your steps too long when you get creamed. Eventually arriving at your target location, find a NPC station with one free office space (preferably one with a medical bay) and set an office there. = the alt has done his job now. Now take your main, jump to a (preferably completely blank) jumpclone, check your medical insurance, switch clone location to the newly placed office, undock, self-destruct pod. Your main is now in NPC-controlled 0.0 space in a blank clone, with no medical insurance and in a noobship. If you have placed it in a medbay station, you can at least update your medical insurance... if not, well... you either risk it like that or you wait 24h for the jumpclone timer to expire. Then jump back via jumpclone to your original body (the one you just left "yesterday") and (if you haven't already) update your medical clone and/or set another medical clone location.
VOILA ! You just got a JC into 0.0 NPC space, and you have full medical insurance. Use it however you see fit.
Like I said... not very cheap nor always convenient. _

Thanks all. Am I right in thinking that it would probably be best to actually build up some assets before looking to move there on a semi-permanent basis, or is the market there sufficient to allow me to be self-sustained? (i.e. I guess there's not a lot of point going there if there aren't any ships & modules I can outfit non-noob ships with, assuming that it would be a lot harder to run the gauntlet of 0.0 to get there in anything that would take a while to align?)
Probably asking well worn questions here so sorry about that, the search function is next to useless.

Well, a covops should make the run "over there" quite easily (wherever "there" might be), and in the cargohold you can carry a shedload of BPCs (maybe even some ammo or other cheap BPOs). If you can't fly copops cloaked ships yet, set up a courier contract with a NPC station as destination. When you get "there" all you have to do is buy the materials and manufacture the needed goods yourself... minerals ARE rather cheap, and gear sells relatively high (compared to highsec anyway), so it might actually be a good business opportunity (if people didn't already snatch this up everywhere already).

I remember the 1st time I moved to 0.0. It was the best experience I ever had in eve, try to be self sufficient.
I moved out some minerals, some BPCs for ammo, and my ship. Of course, back in the day space was more empty, you could find lone systems to rat in.
Just make sure you move when not many people are logged on.

Getting in is the hard part, when you're in, nobody can eject you once you have set your clone in a NPC station, so just keep trying :)
The most obvious route into 0.0 npc is not always the best route, as that's where you will find camps, go through other 0.0 to get there the "back way" if all else fails, like geminate should be pretty easy through eurgrana, akkio etc and then fly up the back way.
Just don't bring a Battleship or similar or you will always die.. either bring a blueprint in a small ship and build it yourself once in npc 0.0 by buying minerals (they're cheaper in 0.0), or bring something smaller to rat with.
Hope that helps.

Try joining a corp - usually staying in 0.0 is a lot easier with access to carriers and jump freighters. Alternatively, you can shop a lot and pay for a jump freighter pilot to bring your shopping to the right station. There is one guy who charges 20 mill per jump, which, for a payload of 300.000 m3 isn't that bad.
0.0 markets are totally player driven and thus a place to make ISK - but also a place to spend them.

Edited by: qantua gnartians on 27/09/2008 12:03:22 Learn the entire map by heart, pay attention to the sov politics, learn the speed mechanic and develop a sixt sense for smelling gatecamps 5 jumps out, a solo playing in a smallish fastship is a bit of trouble to catch.
Sometimes you do spend hours or even days trying to get pass a choke point but if your patient and does your homework it can be done.
Cloaks are obvisusle a item you need to know how to use if your going to make a career as freelancer in npc 0.0.
It's a fun way to play this game, but it does take some experience and a few shiplosses to make it work
