Hope none of you take this as EVE bashing, because its not I like the game. Is EVE growing or dying, I was on tonight and there were only 3000 and change in users. Now I understand there frustrated,k drunk etc, but in total ohnesty have the numbers gone up or down in users over the last couple of months. Only reason Im asking is, I dont want to invest the time if its going to be a ghost universe in a couple of months. P.S. This is a ohnest question not bashing....

Fanboys will tell you the numbdrs are down because it's summer here in Europe and thats where most of the playerbase are from.
More likely, people aren't logging in until all the bugs are ironed out.

EVE seperates itself from most MMORPG ebcuase its all on one sever so u can be assured your always playing with the max number of players
it still hits 6k every day which is plenty as far as not feeling lonley in space
but d be warned EVE is heavily addictive , you'll need methodone just to get off it

Well, the numbers will be lower than usual during the summer, but I guess it has a lot to do with the latest patch as well.

I personally keep remembering the days of trying to break 4000 players online during the week. I login now and see upwards of 8000 during the week,
Is eve dying? Not by a long shot.

No, EVE isn't dying.
But there's still regular threads claiming it is.
Still, will probably be less people online during the summer, at least July when they're outside worshipping the sun.

Hell yeah! Not even EVE beats wakeboarding and partying at the C¶te d'Azur!

Hmm, this is strange. Why did the filter filter that out? I have no idea what a '****' is, nor did I know that such a word even existed! --------------

As I type this there are 8306 accounts logged in to eve. A month or so back eve broke, and as far as i am aware still holds the record for the highest number of players in a single world (or universe in our case..).
I've been playing for over a year now and over all i've seen nothing but steady growth. I don't think eve has even peaked yet..

Make your own decision - scroll down to the final graph which shows the fluctuations of numbers for the entire time EVE has been running.
As we can see, a little over 5 months ago a steep increase began - increase in advertising, word of mouth, death of Earth & Beyond etc until the game peaked at a little under 2 months ago when it hit its all time highest online amount (over 10k).
However if you take a wee peek at times after that, there is a slope forming slowly but steadily on the way down. Could be the summer, could be nothing. If it keeps going however - it will be 'something'. We'll see - it has lost just over 1000 players though in terms of its total peak on Sundays so thats 10% (the number of players that tried but left was sadly high) - highest numbers are now a little over 9k right? All is still well though CCP need to make sure things don't slip - its all a hugely delicate game and the market had lots of competition.
Note: Highest numbers right now are actually 20% down on the huge peaks at 2 months ago but then it is 'exam' time. Still there is no way to tell what the cause is until later when the it rises again or falls. Just have to wait and see.
(I am still a big advocate in the increase of environmental content - they've increased npc activity and strategies, and improved many missions which is good but little in the grand scale of things. Shame Shiva was delayed though... they really needed it out 'now'). -----

Edited by: Swift on 21/06/2004 00:54:52 Easy for you to see.. suddenly become a little chilly down here in London though I really hope we get a summer like last year.. though er not quite as hot!
But I don't see why its not important to keep an eye on the figures... if you know anything about mmporgs, there have been other games which have seen declines that have been pretty severe much like a snowball. Its especially important in EVE because the market is player run and its all one server and not sharded - players leaving affect all other players who will enjoy the experience less because of this. Who doesn't enjoy the living teeming universe?
I've never actually seen an mmporg though get a second wind like EVEs.. usually if you don't start running at full speed you are left in the dirt in this genre, but EVE managed to get a huge surge through E&B's death - talk about luck? But this time around, the postman won't knock twice. Need to keep the players and try and grab more. And yes, while I am assuming CCP know the importance of this, there have been other mmporg devs in the past that have been mindnumbingly slow at reacting to player base issues :)
As I said, nothing to worry about right now, seems calm waters *looks up trying to see how the breeze goes depending on how CCP play out the rest of 2004, talk about crucial for a number of reasons - tough competition on its way at the end of the year too * -----
