What is the word on mobile factorys and refineries?
I have rasied this question earlier but not had any satisfying answers.... Seems everyone has different thoughts and oppinions about it. Any info appreciated, be it on skills, equipment or whatever. But please..no wild guesses...i can manage those myself..:)

Mobile refineries need 'Mobile Refinery' skill which requires Industry and Refining level 5 - so much can be read in the TTD Nexus :)

Thankyou Replies like that are very helpful.
Now if i could just get some info on the hardware. Is it modules for an indy?...or perhaps some sort of mobile platform?

I hope items like this will be priced on the same scale as battle ships and battle ship blue prints. This would really hose up the economy if everyone could do it.

I don't think they should be implemented. I mean look at the weight of minerals compared to a cruisers hold, I could sit there and mine for days before filling up. If they are going to be implemented, I think they should take some time to refine the ore. Dependant on the type and amount. They should also be very costly, and only worth it if your mining far from a staion.

In the recent dev chat, these were listed off alongside things like station construction platforms, sentry guns, shield generators, depots and repair platforms as objects constructed in space that would be added into the game soon, likely within the next 2-3 weeks. We're right at that 3 week mark now, so I suspect it will be a few more weeks since we haven't heard a peep from the devs about it.
My current theory is that they will not be mobile in the sense that they turn your Hoarder into a roving refinery, but in the sense of a unit you can carry in your cargo hold (presumably in an indy) and deploy in space, creating a sort of mini-station that you can dump ores into. Someone with the proper skills would have to visit the platform and operate it in order to refine the ores, and could then withdraw the minerals and ship them off to sell or store.
It's quite possible that such a platform would be completely stationary once it's deployed, and may even require a certain outlay of minerals to activate.. only time will tell, though.

With all this being sayd one question keeps puzzling my mind wich may have something to do with this topic...
Why oh why do industrial ship have somuch cpu power O_o
My explanation would have been mobile refining units that require huge amount of cpu...
From what i hear that was in beta at some point and it was *****ble on an industrial.
Thats what i heard..i also heard something about it being in the hold and not as a module but that may have been a rumor.
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

Correction - Mobile Refinery Skill needs Refining and Industry Lvl4, not 5 (according to TTI Nexus)

Well, filling up the hold of a cruiser is real quick with 4 mining lasers doing bistot or other higher level minerals. I actually dream at night about the day mobile refineries arrive... :-)

Refineries are deployable objects. They can be carried to a spot and set up by a single indy.
You need the anchoring skill as well to use one.
They can't be deployed within 5k of an asteroid, I don't think.
They're in testing on Chaos. I imagine that they will be in a patch soon.
That's about all I know.

Edited by: Marte on 25/09/2003 14:54:20 Sombody show a picture of them before... they were in chaos when he show it... they are like mini station and still have limited cargo (12.000 to 30.000 or something like that depending of which race) , but then I happen to read in the picture, a chat of two power players discussing about this issue and they say that these refineries will be very expensive to buy (no info on this) and currently if you use them to refine the ores in them they will only give you 15% the amount of minerals that a regular station will give, so they have a huge penalty. They say also the DEV are studying this penalty to see if they need to make it less painful and if they should change it... They also will require form you to buy sentry guns to protect them form enemies... and the main purpose it to have them in a system far away where there are rare minerals (bistot) and no station near by. And they will be the next step to be able to mine so effective to get the minerals to eventually built a space station.. This is my 5 cents

Last time I checked it, mobile refineries required the Mobile Refinery Skill to anchor it and it has to be anchored to be functional. In the moment, they are working on Chaos, but they refine just at about 8% of an normal refinery, which is still buggy.
