Was about to switch from wine 1.1.3 to 1.1.5 when I found this thread. The wine explorer fix works for me with 2 clients on different virtual desktops. Had to set resolution to 1900x1100 to avoid having stuff disappear under the kde taskbar.

Originally by: Fennicus This is almost a nice solution for people who just require the one client running, and who have Gnome toolbars and Wine window titles taking up screen real-estate.
I've found that one can solve the former problem through gconf-editor: navigate to apps/panel/toplevels, choose one of the named subcategories (e.g. "top_panel_screen0"). Tick "auto hide", change "auto_hide_size" to 1*, and you'll probably want to play with the show/hide delay times too since the default values seem to be optimised for old grannies.
*This leaves 1-pixel wide bars at the top & bottom of your screen. You typically can't hide these, and there's a 5-year old Gnome "bug" asking for the developers to totally hide it or make it transparent.
Now to get rid of the "Wine 1280x12024" screen title...
I've just set resolution to currently used by desktop and disabled window decorations. This way wine virtual desktop covers whole screen (and EVE does that too). Naturally, this is fullscreen mode from user's point of view.
I'm using gnome btw, and didn't set any panel parameters like auto-hide. Wine virtual desktop covers them out-of-the box

Hmmm, went back to non-explorer method. I need to take care not to get my cursor of the screen with eve, but with the explorer/virtual desktop I seemed to get way more lockups. Maybe because of higher cpu load or something.

I'm getting the same performance using one window as when using non-explorer setup.
Are you running two or more clients? Smb on russian forums already reported that multi-client setups in virtual desktops really hurt performance.

I'm still getting the lockups when switching between apps. i guess I'll still have to play in windowed mode until wine gets it fixed. sucks because it cuts off the bottom of my screen.

Same here too... using Wine 1.1.5 under Gentoo Linux... both Eve 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 cause these lockups.
Windowed (wine) works fine, but fullscreen and windowed from eve itself does not.
Also, I do not agree with being forced to use Cedega just for getting support, as its seriously outdated and poorly supported compared to Wine.

same issues as everyone else the Debeus fix works for now but it does give me a significant performance hit, as I have to run two accounts on this workstation. Subvert the dominant paradigm. |

well if we think about it. Now we have to use wine the way we are forced to use official client, with the "emulated" virtual window and in fullscreen. good thing is we still have to have one copy with wine and not do those moves or copies of ~/.cedega.
I'm pretty sure wine folks will solve this problem(faster than cedega folks) will give us premium

thing is is that i can't get the cedega client to work worth a damn, lousy framerate.

Edited by: Althus Treefingers on 03/10/2008 05:37:23 I'm in Ubuntu 8.04, Wine 1.0
I was having the above-mentioned issue, but am currently running EVE classic, windowed (1024x768) in emulated desktop mode. No problems no matter what I do with desktop switching and compiz fanciness. My FPS are down to about 30ish, though.

<== Another brick in the wall of the crash-on-focus-switch reports.
I know, I know. WINE is not officially supported by CCP. But going back to Cedega wrapper isn't officially supported by me.
KDE can be instructed to "fullscrenize" a specific X11 window, removing decorations and putting it on top of everything else - including the task bar. A workaround (porkaround?) that doesn't satisfy, but works. --- Kate [HKG, PXF] "The game with voices, that you can't win, nor finish." |

Please guys, report this issue at appdb.winehq.org
Without a bug report, it is not going to be fixed. It needs to be reported AND voted for it to be worked on.

Cadega crashes on start.
* Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 * Debian Sid * nVidia Corporation C51PV [GeForce 6150] (rev a2)
Wine is the only option that actually works, aside from the crappy ALSA sound support.

Before speaking that ccp do not support wine, please create a full functional and running client first.
Wine supports non-english characters (like germans special chars) in chat, alt-tabbing and is performing better then the cegada tra.. aehm stuff.
btw, i've also the same problem with the "<defunct>" Exefile process after switching workspace.

I dont really have a lockup or crash.
It's just if I alt-tab... eve online stays on top after flickering to desktop for a fraction of a second.
I would like the ability to alt-tab out of game every so often. ------------------------ "There was this bright flash of light - and now this egg shaped thing is on my screen - did I level up?" |

Just to add, yer right. But on this system, the following occurred immediately on attempting to switch tasks: Git focus issue
This forced a ctrl+alt+f1 to get to htop to kill exefile.exe.
So for now, it appears that the bug is still there.
