When in asteroid belts, using a smartbomb can get you attacked by CONCORD just because of asteroids and/or containers. Just seems kind of messed up. Perhaps at least not have attacking asteroid **** off CONCORD? There has to be a reasonable solution to this.....

Its because you're using an area of effect weapon and damaging players property. That is most likely the containers. The asteroids you can smartbomb to your heart's content.
When you first used it after the last patch, there was a confirmation message about whether you wanted to accept the consequences of using an area of effect offensive weapon for a reason.
If you choose to ignore that message, then use a smartbomb at your own risk.

Is it just secure containers that are flagged as player property, or does it apply to Jet cans too?

Yeah, its the player cans not the roids themselves. I speak from experience, I shoot roids for fun. 
Edit: LS, could smartbombs perhaps be tweaked in a future patch so that they dont hurt friendly objects? I ask this because once the new missile speeds are added smartbombs wont really be able to counter them, and theyll be pretty much useless as no one uses them for anything but anti-missling. But you might could do some cool things with area of effect weapon that is selective in what it damages...

Prob jet cans too since they, when using "show info", have an owner avatar on it.
