Its baffling me this, i can play BF3 and stream movies at the same time and eve is fine.
But as soon as some one torrents on the network eve ceases to work and the torrent speed is capped to 750kbs which is about a quarter of the over all download capability of the network. like i said its baffling me how a small amount of the network use is causing eve to stop.
any tips or help in this matter would be greatly appreciated and i might start handing out cookies  |

...... called overloading your router, you can only have so many open connections... your router likely can not handel the 10000000000000 connections and eve is being more picky than other games.
Caping SPEED does nothing but help reduce lag (because the "pipe" is full so your data has to fight to get into the mix rather than just go with it) |

It's not all about the down speed if you cap out your upline you will suffer and of course as others have stated if you maxed out your connections you will have issues. |

If you are or they are using torrents, get a more powerful router that can handle a large amount of multiple connections.
If you can also get one with decent QoS and prioritise EVE.
I myself am using a Billion 7800N. Does the job perfectly. If I wasnt on adsl and was on cable I would get myself that WRT54G Router and smack some tomato or dd-wrt on it. |

read around for reviews etc, dont just go for ones that have snazzy names or in the spotlight cause it looks like it needs to be waxed and shined. |

Um.... hardly a powerful router...
The answer is yes... upload another good thing to cap... (should not make eve DC however)
Just limit the number of torrents or connections... buying a new router is ********.
QoS is again... for LAG not connection numbers (wow how ******** are people) it CAPS a port... (so you would cap your eve PC if it is the same one running the torrents) |

reducing the upload bandwidth on the torrents may help, but I'll definitely second using a router with QoS or one that can be reflashed with DDWRT or tomato firmware, I'm on cable and won't use a router that can't be reflashed to one of those 2 firmwares, shared house with 4 people running torrent clients & gaming tends to choke up the standard firmwares.

If you are running a block program such as Peerblock (like you should be if ripping torrents), you won't be able to access the EVE client.

peerblock does indeed block CCP hf but only on a per computer basis, add CCP to the exclusions list if you're running it.
@Adam Smash, wrt54g is indeed a low spec router in standard form, with a decent firmware it gains a lot of features and usability
QoS gives priority to protocols depending on the configuration you have set up, torrents should go in the bulk category which is the lowest priority, if a protocol with a higher priority such as VOIP (normally in the premium category along with http video) needs the bandwidth a router with QoS should automagically throttle back torrent traffic to free up required bandwidth.
