Are the problems with EVE on a Mac only with running the EVE Mac client, or do they also apply to running in Windows via Boot Camp? Seems they would be different, but I haven't gone there yet. I will be installing 10.5.5 on a Mac Mini 1.83GHz (Intel Dual of course), with 1Gb RAM and a 23" Cinema Display, using Boot Camp and Windows XP. Anyone forsee issues with this arrangement? Thanks!!

No matter which OS you use, the performance is going to be lousy. One word, "GMA950".
The GPU just doesn't have enough grunt to lift a game like EVE ûáor any other 3D game.
Use it as a skill changer, but you won't be flying around using that thing.

Thanks Bowindah. Guess I'll have to weigh my options. I want to use the Cinema Display but it was too pricey to convert the PC VGA output to digital. May have to yet.
What platform are you using? Win, Mac, Win in Mac?

I've run the Eve Mac client just fine on a Mac mini with a 1.8x Core Duo..... untilit'll randomly crash the entire computer. I'll play for about 2 hours before it'll happen. Maybe the emminent set of fixes will correct that, but they *DO* state that the mac mini is not supported.
But it does run, and play is fine, unless you're in Jita, but that's gonna affect you no matter what you're running. ;)

EvE on Mac problems and this forum are only related to the Mac client. When you run EvE under windows, you'll have the EvE on windows problems.
Installing Windows with bootcamp you'll have a standard Windows installation. The fact that the hardware is a Mac is irrelevant. Bootcamp is basically software that is used to partition the disc in a way that windows can handle and to launch the Windows bootstrapping code on a system that has no BIOS.
Once Windows is loaded, it does not use anything BIOS related. The only part of bootcamp that is used in Windows are the Apple provided device drivers and Apple stuff like QuickTim, Safari and the tool to set the startup disc (active partition, in windows terms) to OsX or Win. Only the device drivers could possibly have an impact on the EvE client. But you can install the specific vendor drivers if you prefer (like ATI/nVidia Windows drivers for your board). There's no requirement that you use the Apple provided ones.
As for the Mac mini, it is not an officially supported platform because the GPU is not deemed powerful enough for EvE. This does not mean that EvE does not run on it. It may or may not run (either under Os X or Windows). It only means that, if you have any sort of problems, you cannot ask for help.

Thanks for that Ms. LeBlanc. Excellent info and just what I was looking for. Basically, its just a give it a try situation. I'm not out anything either way. So that's what I will do. Good Day all and thanks for the replies!

Nope. It's not gonna work. At least with the Mac client on the Mini. Looked fantastic sitting in the station. Once I left it got amusing though. The whole station environment and neo com and HUD sort of reversed them selves and went semi transparent. Hard to explain but it looked like I was inside my monitor looking out. After that it just went down hill. No amount of setting adjustment helped. Oh well. On to plan B.

I've been wondering about this. iMac 24" 4GHz 4G Ram (irc). I get the same low FPS in Leopard and Windows XP, ~30 in non-windowed mode since QR. I upgraded my ISP speed, dropped my router, tested a dozen FPS boosting suggestions for the Mac and it basically hasn't changed. Going to test additional Leopard optimization tricks tonight but doubt it'll help.
One thing I have noticed is that the later I play (or maybe its longer?) the better my FPS. I'm in the PST timezone and around 9pm or so the speed starts climbing and can get up to around 50 to 55fps. What does that mean? That general internet traffic is what's limiting?
