Topic really. I spent a while in FW and I saw that the amount of Caldari militia is way higher than the Gallente...why is that? Why are the majority of players Caldari? (if they are that is...)
Moreover, I notice so many players pick special forces as their specialization...is it cause they wanna sound pro or something? I dunno, half the time I see them using their turrets or launchers than Ewar modules...
If I'm wrong, forgive me. Just some observations...

1) Cos "Militaristic Capitalist" appeals to the spaceship-flying demographic more then "space-French", "religious nut jobs" and "former slaves".
2) Sounds pro. At least, I picked business -> executive commander previously because it sounded good. Heck, your starting skills don't matter anyway, so you might as well choose something that looks good.

Those characters you see are generally alts, and choosing the special forces path gives them the best choice of skills they need for factional warfare.

Thing is, I think it does matter because my gunnery skills equal that of a player who's been playing for a year. Moreover, I can use t2 smalls and they can't...

caldari are pragmatic capitalists who stress economic and military power and run a highly ordered society where if you step out of line you get ostracized by the society and either have to leave the state or commit suicide - majority of players associate with that background story ... many players roll achura for the attributes and i am guessing that they feel that they have to defend their choice of caldari and prove it was the best choice
i have always been independent type in real life and as player in game hence i rolled gallente as my first char as i identify with them the most - highly stratified society, ostracizing those who think differently and step out of line, propensity to resolve conflicts with violence and military buildup that you can oppress those who are weaker that seem to go with caldari backstory have never appealed to me on role player level - however i do enjoy playing for ebil religious zealots at the same time so i mostly play for gallente or amarr

And then you can do that and get totally shafted afterwards, too
When I started I picked science, physics, but when the new bloodlines and updated starting skills came, my profession got changed to business, executive officer.
Go figure
TBH, I think It'd be cool if the upoming diploma system would allow you to change that title, according to what diplomas you have, i.e if you had the "Covops" diploma, you could change the title to "scout" or something along those lines. It would be a neat little thing to be able to do, I think.

/me is a industrial race with military skills.........
So yeah, I have a weird skill tree.
Caldari as a whole are a damn good race for pvp.
Name one fleet that doesn't have ECM. :-D
Plus the kessie, crow, drake, and raven are all great ships.

Glad I have a forum ALT because I will likely get flamed for this.
In early game the Caldari are the EASIEST race to play, I think it is that simple. Missiles are a fire and forget weapon, you need only minimal skills to use them and they do not miss. The Caldari primary defense system, shields needs only minimal skills as well since it is self reparing.
These two combine to make early game really easy on the player and much more forgiving. I mean seriously is there any ship easier to mission run with in early game than a Kestrel? Fire and forget weapons, good cargo space, the perfect noob ship.

Sure, it's easy, but just like in all other classes, it's not always the most effective (if ever). I much prefer something like a Punisher for mission running, as it is more maneuverable and switches from one target to the next swiftly. Kestrel is nearly impossible to fit with four launchers and the terrible refire rate makes killing frigs in missions slow. And good luck running 2s in a kestrel. You can't fit a tank strong enough because of the severe lack of cap and grid.
But anyway, we're talking about new players here, players who don't know that missiles are "easy mode" and are picking the race for other reasons. But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

If you put 7 mil in gunnery in gunnery in your first year you wont be tanking or ganking much except maybe some level 3 NPCs as you wont have much tanking or spaceship command lol

My choice of caldari four years ago was mainly because they looked the most human.
Picking an industrial character and not rerolling when I realised my mistake at 5 mill sps was my epic failure which I rue every time I select a new skill to train these days.
But as far as why I didnt choose the others back when I started.......
Gallente - skinny alien looking freaks Minmattar - Klingons crossbred with wookies Amarr - Old men tbh
Oh and missiles seemed like a cooler option.... another mistake in retrospect
Since then I chose an amarr character because at the time they were the worst at PvP and would eventually rise to be the best given eve's cyclic nerf/boot nature
and following that as I wanted a pvp / EW specced alt, I chose a caldari achura beacuse of the OMG lookit the points spread on that.

and, i like the picture, all my chars are caldari of one sort or another
