Why not put on an inactivity timer LIke you haven't done anything online, and you're cloaked in space, for 3 hours. Then the server loges you off automatically. It doesn't Nerf the cloaking devices, and if somebody is actually spying, they don't go offline! Simple fix! I tell you, My talents wasted here. |

If the person who is cloaked is really afk then they are not a threat to you. If they are not afk then they can overcome any kind of ******** mechanic like the one you've described. Stop being dumb. |

The problem with that is you will see when I come back online. The point of AFK cloaking is to break an enemies reliance on local as an intel tool and attack once they have become acclimated to the cloaker's presence.
The sad truth is there IS no fix for AFK cloaking until they fix local. And after that, nobody will be bothered by AFK cloakers because they won't even know they're there.
In short, cloaking mechanics will never change, and it's for the best. |

no, the point of AFK cloaking is to go to the bathroom or take 5 or go eat something or give some love to the GF/wife, and not risking getting your ship blown'd up while you're traversing hostile space.
making the locals nervous is just a plus.

I have been told that thats not happening
Quote:Also from the CCP side their standpoint-áas said to us is they don't like this because it removes the sense of playing a game with other people. They want you to see that other people are playing eve around where you're playing it.
There is a push to change what local is and make it just a communications tool instead of an intel tool while retaining that information in another format somehow. It's a work in progress and I imagine we'll hear more about this at the next summit.
But I guess that depends on how much you buy what the CSM says. I wont say which one cause I dont wanna call him/her out **** FiS Its Called EVE |

The only way they're a threat is when they enter local and the OP's botfarm logs off because a non-blue entered local chat. |

The field would unduly ruin the viator and other cloaky haulers. I'd also like to ask you, how would it affect jumping into a gate? I mean, we jump in cloaked and it allows us to get out bearings. Can you imagine those fields at a gate campo along the pipe? It wouldn't really be fair. |

Simple fix to that is use constellation chat for making players feel like they're 'playing' with other people. |

Well I have to ask first, why is this needed? Surely you have to give a reason for this idea and what you are trying to fix.
Elyssa MacLeod wrote:Meridith Akesia wrote:Simple fix would be to remove local chat. I have been told that thats not happening No one but CCP and maybe the CSM really know what is happening to local. Even they only know an outline of what is to change. They said it wouldn't simply be turned off or set to delay mode, but the intel you now gain from it is more than likely not going to last. They want you to work for your intel, instead of being hand fed it so easily. CCP Zulu.....Forcing players to dock at the captain's quarters is a form of what we actually wanted to get through, which is making Incarna a seamless part of the EVE Online experience. |

IMHO nobody should be 100% safe in 0.0 which is what you are when you cloak, 100% safe. I'm even a fan of destructible stations for that reason.
However, there are two basic arguments that always come up and both are fallacious.
Cloaked ships cant do anything to you so theyre balanced This is false for 3 reasons.
1. Cloaked ships can abuse grid-fu and the anomaly respawn mechanic to prevent new anomalies from spawning, in fact, a dedicated griefing group can shut down an entire region with no risk to themselves.
2. Cloaked ships provide perfectly safe free intel of ship movement and types and warp ins.
3. Cloaked ships provide a threat of force that cannot be countered. |

Well said.
And to OP.
It is a nerf if its a proposal to change how something works, and that change makes it less dependant than it is now.
But I agree with you. |
