Hi guys, was doing enemies abound, and went into the mission. had to warp out. When I cam back, there was 30 BS rats plus many others sitting there. Is this normal?
I dont run missions a lot, but still, this seems like lvl 5 difficulty. with 2 reps, and tanked for the damage types, they 2 volleyed my Domis armor.
Was just wondering if this was really how hard this mission usually is.

It is. The respawns in EA5 are timer based, meaning if you can't keep up shooting them, you will have a lot ontop of you.

That mission is a classic example of why "gank over tank" is a winning mission runner strategy. This means focusing less on trying to run a perma-tank, but instead crap as much dmg into your ship as possible.
When you reach the point where you comfortably manage to kill off each wave before the next spawns this mission becomes cake. No amount of tank will save you though.

Thepet your Gallente and your flying a Domi. The standard mega/domi can tank a full spawn but it requires most your armor skills at lvl 5. Mine are totally maxed and these guys can push my Navy Mega to nearly its limit of sustained tank. Since your in a Domi tank damage specific and try 3 armor rep rigs. IE turn that puppy into a Hyperion with better resistances. Kill off cruisers quick because they move in fast and deliver a steady accurate punch against your armor. Keep moving to stay ahead of the battleships and lay down fire as you can, most of the Phoons are autocannon ships so they need to close within 10km to be effective and trust me they are. Ogre ll's are your primary weapon so use them again high end cruisers who will have much higher ROF and damage potential and the low end battleships. Use rails if you have them against cruisers and battlecruisers. The big issue will be the alpha strike from 400 missiles at one time. Try Nanobot Accelerator rigs to speed your reps up and stagger their cycles. If all else fails ask a friend with logistics ship or Medi Domi to assist you. Or buy a Kronos.
Best of luck.

It is a bit of a struggle for solo but can be tanked with high enough skills.
Otherwise it can be done by immediately flying directly away from the rats when you warp in until your about 50km from the beacon which puts the spawns farther from your ship giving you more time. You can continue to move farther away as needed.
Hehe when I first started lvl 4's in a Typhoon and did 5 of 5 I was leaving a trail of rats 150km long but it was a ton of fun.
If your skills are a bit low the very best way is to go in with one or two buddies so you can put more dps on the rats. Concentrated agro works best on the BS rats in that case. |

Solo'd that in Snake , faction fit ofc.
And you really need tank imo , but just my opinion .
And ALWAYS keep moving at full speed , no matter what .
That helps to counter their tracking a little bit , and you will need a very, very solid tank for that room to solo it .
G/L , but if you do not have a ship that will tank that alone , bring a friend for repping and a little added DPS !

ok thanks. I havent really ran missions for a long time (been out of game a while as well) so I dont even know a lot of mission mechanics. (Like apparently the mission disappears after downtime) I guess if I had known about the mission I actually would have been able to do it, but I didnt and had to warp because I was taking care of a sick family member and they needed me, so when I went back in there was too many for me to tank.
Thanks for the replies.

If you are first warping in to the room, set a course directly away from where they are and just keep on flying. As they spawn they will chase you no matter what the distance is.
If the room is already spawned these are the 3 methods I've used in the past:
Fit your max resist for the damage you take (The version I do is Minmi so max Explosive in my case), setup as big a buffer as possible with decent DPS, immediately align once you warp in and just try and pop them 1 by 1. This is one of the few missions where I highly recommend a Damage Control Unit since gettin into structure is a real possiblity here.
If that is still to much then you need a friend fit for logistics or you do the staggered warp in. Call a target ASAP, you take the first bust of damamge, you both focus fire, then warp out, he keeps pounding, pops the rat, then warps out, and repeat.
Third way (and first time I did it) was fit maximum tank, warp in, buddy followed in a fast high resist Battlecruiser or something and immediately started flying away. I tanked as long as I could, then warped out, they started chasing him, then I got back in and started picking them off while he was playing Gopher.

A key part to this is bringing multiple damage types.
If you are using missiles then be sure to bring thermal AND explosive. Those Darkana's are a ***** even with explosive, but they go down a lot faster with explosive.
I used to even use faction cruises for the explosive to make those darkana's go away faster. Also be sure to have good resists. You want them all to be high as there is significant damage from all types but mostly Explosive and EM.
As your gank gets better you do not have to string them out. But gank is imperative in this mission because if you cannot clear the waves you are in for a big surprise.
Also if you ever have to warp out of the mission and you have not cleared at least the third wave do not bother going back in as it is a death trap.

Aye up mate. Yep...ya found a mission with timer based waves rather than ones you can "manage" the aggro of. I've done this mission and when I first tried it I had to warp in and out killing a BC at a time before my tank broke. These days I warp in and can do the final room at my leisure but its just a case of skilling up for it. Best advice I can give? http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=MissionReports <--- this is the mission runners bible.
Read and store the link I have posted above. When you get a mission look at the walkthrough and hints and tips available there and have a go. It cuts out on the nasty surprises some missions can throw at you.
Keep going and in the end you'll be able to fly this mission with the same e-***** waving many of the peeps on the forum are able to as well. Remember, we all started at the OMGWTF phase when faced with this mission. |

Edited by: Dracthera on 15/10/2008 16:17:45 Just soloed this (for the most part) in a Drake the other day. Here are some key points I learned:
1. Definitely move away from the gate at the beginning, and keep moving (preferably aligned toward a safe target) 2. Fit my tank for Mercenary damage (Exp/Kin) 3. Take out frigates first, BCs and cruisers second, then BSs last (range dependent). The nice thing is that BSs go fast and orbit close, which gives a missile boat a DPS advantage over rat defenders. Merc ships go down pretty fast with Scourge heavies, so DPS in the Drake wasn't really an issue. 4. Once everything but the Darkanas are down, warp out and equip ship for EM tanking and explosive damage. Come down and take out Darkanas. This is the only part where I brought it my webber mission support ship on my dual account just because I wanted to make things faster. 5. Once Darkanas are down, loot and salvage. 6. Take out the stargate and turn in mission.
The only real damage I was taking during the mission was from the EM torps on the Darkanas, but because I was moving away I ended up only taking damage from 3-4 Darkanas. My resists for Merc damage are high enough to where it wasn't an issue throughout the mission.
Here's my setup:

Drake is fail for this mission. This is such a lucrative mission to do that using a drake is just blasphemy.
With a decently skilled pilot and a nice ship (<1 billion for everything) you should be able to kill loot and salvage this mission in about an hour (not including the gate, because why would you destroy that?)
From the sounds of your drake attempt it seems to me that it may have taken considerably longer then that.

I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I did this mission in a Drake because I enjoyed the torture of taking 90 minutes to finish killing everything. Obviously I'm running a Drake because I can't yet fly a CNR, which would be my preferred ship on this... I was merely aiming to share my experience of running this mission in a Drake, nothing more.
