They are recons younger brothers. They can do all the same stuff cheaper but not really as good. My question is simple, how do all of you feel about them? Do they have a place beside Recons? And do they perform their job adequately enough for it to be worth the extra skill time it takes to fly one preceding the recon you are shooting for?

They do the job, just not as well. The caldari and gallente ones in particular.

from what ive heard flying a sentiel before jumping into a curse can be good, lets you get into the hang of flying that type of ship and if you make a mistake it isn't as expensive This is my signature [:^_^:]! <3 |

Take the older brother. . .don't stop. The only exception is the Kitsune which can be very effective and you learn to accept that if anyone dies its gonna be you. ----

they seem really fun to fly, but im a bit worried that the speed nerf will ruin a lot for them

Mostly, they suck and are out-performed by their recon counterparts. They're decent if you don't have the skills for a recon, but once you do, the EAS quickly becomes obsolete.

I've had a lot of fun flying a kitsune around. I found they make great suicide bait tacklers. Against solo ships you're set. Anything with high base sensor strength can't hit me anyways and anything with good enough tracking to hit an mwding frigate can be permajammed with ease.
You're paying 15 mil for some lols, but the lolicoster is rickety and made of wood by cheap contractors who have closed up shop and moved on. Expect to die. You're a pain in the ass and made of paper.

I find the Kitsune really way too fragile to be worth bothering with. I find a Blackbird just as useful for small gang warfare with a lower isk investment (3 mill + 10 mill in ewar rigs, which doesn't quite add up to the cost of one unrigged kitsune). And it takes a little longer to die, giving you the chance to align and warp - my Kitsunes kept getting popped while aligning if someone managed to get their drones on me.
So I would say hold out for a Falcon or, if you must do a little DPS, a Rook. I'm following my own advice and training madly for recons now. :)

Which is exactly why it is such massively good bait for a team that otherwise consists of Recons, Stealth Bombers and Black Ops ships. Can anyone say Redeemer with six tachyons and a passive targeter?
Seriously, people go crazy around the Kitsune. It has all the annoyance factor of a Falcon but draws even more aggro because people expect to shoot it down so quickly. And once you've got them hooked...

Hyena is a solid tackler, but has practically no dps and is still vulnerable to neuts. The TP bonus could prove handy if you have snipers or torp ravens/typhoons in fleet. Webb bonus is most important in that it allows you to hold down targets without being counter webbed and insta-popped. Its not as great as the recons for creating a zone death for frigs and nano-ships.

I enjoy flying a Keres. As long as you keep a low profile, life is not so bad in an EAS.
I know less than you think I do.

I find that the hyena can be fit to be a very decent tackler comparative to a ceptor. A ceptor is faster of course, but the hyena can tackle things out of web range by webbing them (20km with EAS 5 and named webs). It has a low DPS but it can be used as a ceptor killer because you can keep out of range of the ceptor by keeping two webs on them and orbiting them at the tips of your web range which keeps the damage dealt on you low. The only real problem I have had in killing ceptors in them was against crows because their missiles tend to be a problem. Other than that I find the hyena to be a fairly solid ship, built to be around the preformance of a ceptor. I have flow the keres, and the keres would be a decent tackler if it got better bonuses to RSD to make them not be useless, but RSD suck so no sense in really flying a keres over a ceptor.

Kitsune is a fun, little ship. After flying it for a little while I'm tempted to train for a Falcon. |

I've flown the Kitsune and Sentinel. A Sentinel is a lot of fun, you can grab and hold interceptors or fit TDs and do mini-Recon work. Kitsunes are hilariously fun, but expect to die a lot.
I can fly Amarr and Caldari Recons but I'll still fly an EAS for fun. ------

Kitsune - A minifalcon, what's not to love? Sentinel - A minicurse, puts ishkur to a shame. Keres - Very specific situations, worthless in 99 out of a 100 engagements. Hyena - In it's current state, a gankier interceptor, with the speednerf coming I'm not sure what's going to happen. Fear it will turn into an expensive vigilant. Parrots, commence!

I've said this before in one of the 15k other posts about Electronic attack frigates: They are not mini-recons. Fly them like that and you'll lose em every time, which can be confirmed by the replies from above posters.
They are frigates. They must be flown like frigates, or you will die just like a frigate. Treat them like interceptors with ewar instead of miniture recons and you'll find their niche, which is not the same niche as recons, so no they are never obsoleted. How to Fail at Eve

Every single one needs to be about 5mil ISK more expensive and be given the capability to fit a Cov Ops Cloak.
Then things will get interesting, very interesting. --
