It happened again last night, pretty unsettling.
Issue: Targetting, keeps re-cycling at the end of target cycle, i.e. you're about to lock, and then your targetting starts again as if just then you clicked to lock the target. This keeps going 4-5 times.
Alternative issue: Same as above, however after in mid targetting cycle or at end of it, it says Targetting ... failed.
I've seen other posts on this but apparently nothing has been done including the last 2 patches.
When it happens? Random really, most of the times the targetting works just fine. but there are these rare occasions when it doesn't, like the 1v1 i did last night.. really unsettling to watch your target slip out of web range while you keep hitting target, target, target, target, oh they're 15km off.. now it's targetting.. great.. :) i still won though but nonetheless..
What have i done so far:
- Cleared the cache folder - Reinstalled the client from scratch - Posted a petition in the bugs section - Ofc, tried relogging after it first happens in 1 session.
I'm using the new client and a computer that is pretty good. This behavious started 3-4 patches ago and at that time saw a few threads about it, but nothing is being fixed.
Can you guys look at this maybe for the next patch?
Regards,
Black

Edited by: Black Scorpio on 07/10/2008 19:02:48 It'd be nice if at least one of the officials in this game says this is a known issue and it's being looked at or that it's in the process of fixing. If the problem is on my end (don't know how but, anything's possible) also, please point me in the right direction.
Thanks again!

PS: no i wasn't jammed in the above scenario, the kill mail showed the guy did not have any means for doing so.

I used to have this issue in high traffic/laggy areas but lately it hasnt happened once, but that maybe because I moved away from those areas. Is this happening anywhere or only certain system/s? |

No m8, nothing in particular. The system that this happened last night was free of lag, moving fast, with 4 ppl in local and no other noticeable slow-down effects. Just the targetting.

No Jimmer, my connection is very good, i.e. 18mbps+ and nothing else lags in game also.

I get this quite often in missions, usually targeting Small Things.
Although this is clearly the wrong forum to report this.

While you certainly could experience the issue i describe during a disconnect, my connection was working fine and the fight went through (or whatever i was doing when this happens in other instances), with the exception of the ability to lock target on the first few tries.

Have you reported this or found something that causes it in particular that can fix this?

Submitting a detailed bug report would be your best bet.
I would like to see this issue get fixed too.

Yeah, the mileage and the flying through space all over again is different (or maybe it isn't) but when i get the target locking issue there is nothing else that lags, including warps to objects. Also i petitiond it as a bug report but so far no replies, not even taht it has been looked at or that it's not a problem on their end but mine, nothing..

ccp never says "we're looking at it". you'll only hear when it's done.

Sometime I get "Targeting Attempt Fails" so many times that the target dies or warps out before I can lock them.

Happens when you target a BoB member.
Not a bug, feature.

Hahah :) yeah, well would be nice if it was limited to BoB members only :) sadly other parties are also privileged by this "feature"!

Two possible fixes for this, get a system clock monitor (I use ClockMon by Software Development Laboratories) sometimes the Client and server get a little wonky talking to each other if your system clock is a little fast or slow.
Can find that free on the web.
The other possibility is your ISP may not be giving your connection to the EVE server the attention it deserves, easy way to fix that is to run a trace route in the background, forces your ISP to keep your connection fairly high priority by constantly yammering to it.
I Use PingPlotter, its free: find it Here Just punch in EVE server addy as the place you want the trace to run to, its: 87.237.38.200
If I had to lay ISK on it I would say its your ISP neglecting you a bit and PingPlotter running in the background as you are playing will fix that up fer yas. Added benefit is if it starts doing it to you again you can look at the Trace and see where the problem is or if it is a problem with the path you have to Iceland ; ]

Could have something to do with package loss. The client goes all happy counting down the locking but the server never got the message, then when the client shouts "locked!2 the server goes "WTF are you doing?" and the client has to start over again.

Well i did a test of my packet transfer, my ping,as well as ping plotter..
1. The ping never goes over 90-100ms and is steady. 2. My ISP is good (if not great), read ample upload/download speed. 3. I've never experienced this until 3-4 patches ago. 4. When this is happening it is not in a heavy lagged system with a lot of people in. It's in low sec, nothing else is lagging, modules activate immediately (no delay) and the game is running as good as one can wish for.. except...
The failing targetting.
Also to the guy saying i need to bug report it, yes I did that as well, and have gotten no reply for 2 weeks so far. Hence since it just happened to me again i decided to post here and see if other people have had the same problem and if it's a recognized issue. Also if there's a fix, past the trivial it's your ISP, no it is not.

Black

This happens to me when I prefire a module like warp disurptors. When the lock happens, the module keeps blinking.
